On a leisurely day, my family (including our beloved dog) decided to have lunch in Nakameguro and take a walk through Daikanyama to buy some bread. There are many delicious bakeries in this area, but we decided to visit "Billside Pantry Daikanyama," which my wife particularly likes.
- Blueberry Muffin: The moist muffin had plenty of sweet and sour blueberries inside. It's not too big, so you can easily eat a couple of them.
- Pain au Chocolat: A basic pain au chocolat. The chocolate wasn't too sweet, but the crispy surface of the croissant made it a bit difficult to eat.
- Bacon Epi: A savory deli-style bread. This one also had a traditional taste, with the saltiness of the bacon balancing the flavors.
The store not only sells bread but also has a spacious eating area and sells international groceries and goods. As a result, it's always bustling with people shopping or enjoying some personal time. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed inside, but even considering that, it's still a place where you can have a great time. I think we'll be stopping by often on our walks in the future. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a bakery in the G building of Hillside Terrace in Tokyo as part of my bakery tour. At first, I had trouble finding the shop, but I eventually located it after going down a staircase in the G building. The bakery had a seating area where you could enjoy your pastries, as well as a selection of imported groceries and deli items for sale. They offered two types of croissants: regular croissants and sourdough croissants, with the latter being a bestseller since the shop opened. I decided to try the sourdough croissant, assuming it must be delicious if it's a bestseller. The sourdough croissant had a lighter color compared to the regular croissant. Upon tasting it, I found it to be slightly moist and soft in texture.

I bought some donuts at "I'm Donuts" near Naka-Meguro Station, then I climbed up a hill in scorching heat over 30 degrees until I arrived at a fairly impersonal building on B1 floor. Inside, there was a calm atmosphere. They had a wide variety of bread displayed, and I forgot about the heat as I looked around deciding what to buy. They also had a cafe and in the back, there were items like foreign seasonings and couscous that made me feel like I was overseas. I got edamame and cheddar cheese scone, gorgonzola and honey scone (official name unknown), and a keema curry bread because I suddenly craved curry. I'll freeze the scones and reheat them later! Everything was really delicious. I also confirmed that their hard breads are definitely tasty.

【Cucumber Sandwich】The cucumber has a lightly salted, pickled flavor with a crunchy texture. It's a delight for cucumber lovers with its satisfying crunch.【Ham and Egg Sandwich】Generous egg salad with plenty of light ham. Both have a tangy vinegar and salt flavor reminiscent of foreign cuisine.【Curry Bread】Chickpea curry with minimal moisture. The bread crust is crispy and fried.

Daikanyama's stylish Hillside Terrace G building along the old Yamate Street has a Pantry located in the basement. I came all the way here, so I bought a bucket as a souvenir. The bread is straightforward with no distinctive taste, perfect for topping with cheese and toasting (I prefer more flavorful types). The Chausson aux Pommes is wrapped in pie crust with red apple inside. As a fan of apple pie, I found the pie crust to be softer and easier to eat. The Edamame Cheddar Cheese Tart is loaded with beans, while the Smoked Cheese Cheddar Bacon has a balanced taste. The Fig & Cashew Nut Baton is thinly sliced and great for pairing with wine. Downstairs, the Pantry offers a nice atmosphere and a selection of deli items. You can also enjoy eating in with freshly baked bread in the open space.

A bakery located inside Daikanyama Hillside Terrace. The shop also includes a delicatessen, grocery (imported goods), and a cafe. All the bread is made by skilled bakers from scratch without any additives. The location is a 3-minute walk from Daikanyama Station, on the basement floor of Daikanyama Hillside Terrace along the old Yamate Street. The shop offers a wide range of imported foods, wines, and delicious Japanese, Western, and Chinese side dishes, with a cafe as well. The bakery space is located just down the stairs. I visited on a weekday evening and there were so many types of bread to choose from. The mashed potato and cheese tartine was delicious, with a smooth potato taste and a kick from the bacon. The apple and tea scone had a lovely tea aroma, perfect for tea time. The pain au chocolat had a crispy pastry and delicious chocolate. The natural yeast cream bread was small and round, with a refined sweetness in the custard cream and a chewy bread texture. I enjoyed it chilled.

[2023.08 Bread Activity♪] Before heading to the wood-fired Italian restaurant that I've been wanting to try, thanks to an invitation from a friend, I stopped by this shop for a souvenir for my wife and breakfast combined with bread activity. This shop, opened in 1993, offers imported ingredients, homemade bread, and homemade deli. It's amazing how it has lasted for 30 years in a city where trends come and go rapidly, even though 1993 feels like just the other day to me. My focus was solely on bread, so I purchased the following breads and enjoyed them with my wife the next morning: 😄
[2023.08 Morning Bread♪]
- Chickpea Curry Bread (price unknown)
- Sausage Brioche (389 yen)
- Mini Olive and Basil Pizza (named by Rakiten, price unknown)
- Anchovy and Sun-Dried Tomato Mini Pizza (303 yen)
[2023.08 Dessert for the Night♪]
- Canelé (303 yen each)
■ Total: 2,158 yen
Since there was no receipt and I paid with PayPay, the total amount paid is accurate, while the individual prices are based on online research. The bread was delicious, slightly above average, but the canelé was particularly tasty with a crispy exterior and a chewy interior!
Location: About 250m north on the Old Yamate Street from Daikanyama Station.

Despite living in Ebisu for 5 years and Daikanyama for 3 years, I regret not visiting Hillside Pantry sooner. I never expected such a spacious and welcoming space hidden behind the building! While there are many bakeries around like Maison Ichi, TSITE, Garden House, and Hareru Takara Sora ni Mame Maite, this place offers good value for money and, most importantly, delicious food. I couldn't resist stopping in for a bite while out for a stroll. The French toast was crispy and moist even when cold. The croissant with a hint of salt tasted crispy and fluffy. The sandwich had a nice kick of black pepper. I'll definitely be coming back here often. Thank you for the wonderful meal! ♡♡

I stopped by this famous bakery known for their croissants for lunch and got some to go. I purchased a regular croissant and a sourdough croissant. Both were delicious, but I prefer the sourdough croissant because I like the moist and chewy texture.

This is my second visit. The bread here, including toast, Danish, savory bread, and sweet bread, all have solid flavors. The breads made with natural yeast and sprouted grains are quite good. The Danish pastries like croissants have a firm texture and good bite. So far, the croque monsieur was the most delicious. However, the customer service here is mediocre, lacking in friendliness. Items purchased (tax included): Anchovy pizza 280 yen, Chickpea curry bread 290 yen, Chocolate croissant 350 yen, Natural yeast bread 1 loaf 560 yen. Payment with PayPay.

Tokyo Daikanyama, Pan Tokyo Hyakumeiten, Hillside Pantry Daikanyama. A stylish bakery in Daikanyama where you can enjoy the atmosphere. I stopped by on my way to a nearby French restaurant. I had a baguette and a scone. The scone was moist with a strong wheat flavor, excellent. The baguette was a standard Japanese style, a bit hard. The modern interior added to the stylish feeling. Thank you for the meal.

I walked from Nakameguro to Daikanyama to check out the top 100 stores for 2022. It was a scorching hot day, and I passed by HOLLYWOOD RANCH MARKET and HILLSIDE PANTRY, which brought back memories of entering the city from the countryside many years ago. There were only a few customers at the cafe, so I was able to take my time. Here are some of the items I tried:
- Hillside Flower: 300 yen (excluding tax). It had a strong texture that I couldn't bite through, with a light salty flavor and rich buttery dough.
- Paton: 280 yen (excluding tax). A stick-shaped pastry filled with figs and nuts.
- Gorgonzola Honey: 390 yen (excluding tax). A perfect combination of gorgonzola cheese and honey, with the added texture of walnuts. Pair it with a horseshoe-shaped wine.

Today, I had some time in the morning so I first visited a new store in Minowa, then made a detour to Daikanyama before heading to my intended shop in Shibuya. I stopped by "HILLSIDE PANTRY DAIKANYAMA" that I had been curious about. The store is located in the B1F of "Daikanyama Hillside Terrace" and offers a wide selection of items including bread, deli, imported ingredients, vegetables, and wine. There is also a cafe space where you can relax and enjoy. I was a bit indecisive but ended up buying a Sausage Brioche (380 yen), Croque-Monsieur (390 yen), Cinnamon Roll (380 yen), and Mini Pizza with Olives and Basil (280 yen). The Croque-Monsieur was delicious! The rye bread was fragrant and had a robust texture, the bechamel sauce was flavorful, and the ham was tasty. The Sausage Brioche had a dense and tangy sourdough bread with a strong flavor, and the sausage paired well with it. The Cinnamon Roll had a crispy croissant dough with a buttery aroma, and the icing and raisins added a nice touch. The Mini Pizza with Olives and Basil had a thin crust with sprouted grains, a strong basil flavor, and the black olives provided a good balance of acidity. Overall, the quality and uniqueness of the bread were impressive, and I left feeling very satisfied. I would like to come back to try other bread and also take my time exploring the deli and imported ingredients next time.

I visited after seeing it in the media. The natural yeast croissant had a simple and delicious taste. It was nice to compare it with a regular croissant. The cheese roll had a surprising amount of cheese inside.

A few minutes' walk from Daikanyama Station, there is a bakery located underground in one of the newer buildings at Hillside Terrace along the old Yamate Street. It's more like a corner of a grocery store. I bought a croque monsieur and a cinnamon roll. The croque monsieur is very big and has a satisfying volume due to the thick bread. The cinnamon roll has raisins in it and is well-made. It's American-sized but the sweetness is adjusted to suit Japanese tastes.

I'm sorry for eating before taking a picture (>_<) I received it as a gift! The French toast was a bit firm, but not too hard, and the flavor was well infused into the bread. It was delicious. French toast tends to be soft, but this one was not overly sweet and had a good texture. I would like to buy it myself sometime!

Hillside Pantry (Visit Date: June 24, 2023, around 11:00)
✔︎ French Toast → The best French toast. It's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Just the right amount of sweetness, it's wonderful, so please try it!
✔︎ Cheese Roll Bread → An amazing deliciousness. The dough is chewy. It's filled with cream cheese. Truly wonderful, that's all I can say. Please try it.
✔︎ Service & Atmosphere → Due to the location, there are many foreigners, and you can also buy overseas snacks inside the store. Gelato and drinks are also available, so it's not just about bread. Going down the stylish gray-toned stairs, you'll find a spacious area with bread lined up. It's the best.

Natural yeast sourdough bread with Hokkaido corn. The corn adds a sweet flavor to the soft and chewy bread. It's satisfying enough to be a meal on its own. Croquant miel. This pastry looks delicious and tastes even better. The sweet honey dough has a light and crispy Danish pastry texture. Delicious. Gorgonzola honey. Gorgonzola and honey is a perfect combination, and the addition of walnuts adds a nice crunch. It pairs well with wine. I found it more appealing than when I visited a few years ago.

Hillside Pantry is a must-visit bakery in Daikanyama known for its delicious pastries. The terrace area has a cozy eat-in space and also sells stylish imported goods. I tried the corn-filled Torudyu for the first time, and it was incredibly tasty. It has a chewy texture with a crispy outer layer when toasted, making it irresistible. Of course, the sweet pastries are also incredibly delicious and satisfying. #HillsidePantry #Daikanyama #DaikanyamaCafe #DaikanyamaLunch #DaikanyamaGourmet #DaikanyamaBakery

Located just a 5-minute walk from Daikanyama Station, this bakery is always bustling with people. The eat-in space gets crowded during lunchtime, making it feel cramped. I tried the croissant for 270 yen and the anchovy and sun-dried tomato mini pizza for 280 yen. The pastries were light and dry, and the croissant tasted like eating a moistened rice cracker, with the butter flavor feeling overpowering. I felt that the popularity of this shop based on its convenient location is not entirely trustworthy.

This place is located on the basement floor of a building next to Daikanyama T-SITE, where Hillside Cafe is located. Although I pass by here often, I just noticed for the first time that there is a shop in the basement. As I descended the stairs, I saw tables and chairs, and a signboard displaying today's lunch menu!? There is also seating inside the shop, and I thought it was a cafe, but they also sell bread! There is a cafe stand set up, with an ice box next to it, and wine lined up beside it, along with Kamakura vegetables. Towards the back, there is a deli corner, selling today's lunch and imported sweets, and even juice from some specialty place. There are so many items for sale that I couldn't quite figure out what kind of store it is. In the seating area, there are people eating lunch, eating bread, drinking coffee, eating ice cream... I had no idea such a place existed. The customers seem to be mostly locals living in the area, so this shop must be very convenient for those living nearby! Since I hadn't eaten anything all morning, I had some bread, salad, and coffee on this day.
