Rich Kama Tamago Chuka Soba (Large) with extra green onions. I visited this place one night. I had heard rumors about a new genre of ramen called "Kama Tamago Chuka Soba." I was curious to know if it was really different from "soupless" ramen, "abura soba," or "maze soba." The restaurant is located near Keikyu Kamata Station. Kamata in Ota Ward is like a second home to me, so I have a strong connection to this area. By the way, JR Kamata Station and Keikyu Kamata Station are completely different stations, about 800m apart. Trying to walk from one to the other to get to Haneda Airport would be quite a challenge. Well, with the prevalence of navigation apps now, it might not be as difficult, but still. Interestingly, there seems to be a plan for a new railway line called the "Kama Kama Line" that would connect Keikyu and JR. For those who have lived around here, you would understand how revolutionary this line would be. It's like a dream come true, but at the same time, there are concerns about what will happen to the shopping street in between. But I digress. I arrived a bit late, so I was able to enter the restaurant smoothly. The menu seemed quite simple, with the simplest option being without any toppings. I opted for the "Rich Kama Tamago" with added spicy green onions because eating plain noodles seemed a bit lonely. While waiting, I was surprised to see a variety of condiments on the table for flavor customization. This required a bit of personal taste. After a short wait, the Kama Tamago arrived. True to its name, the bowl was quite simple in appearance. I dug in immediately. As expected from a dish called "Kama Tamago," the steam rising from the noodles was inviting. I first tried the noodles with the sauce at the bottom without mixing in the egg, and it had a strong soy sauce flavor, almost like eating a rich soy sauce ramen. I then mixed everything together and found it to be a unique blend, like a cross between abura soba and chuka soba. It was delicious. The wavy flat noodles had a great texture, and the added spicy green onions complemented the dish well. After thoroughly enjoying the noodles, it was time for toppings. I sprinkled black pepper for a sharp flavor, which was also very good. Adding spicy leeks and wood ear mushrooms suddenly transformed the taste into a junk food-like direction. I stopped adding toppings at this point, as I felt adding too much would blur the flavors. The noodle portion was just right, leaning towards slightly less. But it was perfect. They offer extra noodles, but they are served with thin noodles, probably due to the cooking time. I think the default flat noodles pair well with this Kama Tamago Chuka Soba, so I would prefer the extra noodles to be served with thick noodles. Hmm, you really can't know until you try it. Depending on the toppings, it can become a completely different dish. This menu is very interesting. I prefer sharp flavors, so next time I might try it without the egg. The name of the Kama Tamago menu was not just for show. Thank you for the meal.
