Thick-sliced Chashu Miso Ramen for 980 yen. In mid-August, a miso ramen shop called Miso Kuma opened next to Don Quijote at the east exit of Takenotsuka Station. There is a related restaurant called "Tetsumaru" at the west exit of Takenotsuka, so it seems like they are able to coexist. When I visited on a weekend evening, the restaurant was about half full. I was happy to see that they are open all day. The interior has a counter at the entrance and table seats in the back, with a surprisingly good number of seats. This store does not offer set meals. The main menu consists of "Sapporo Miso," "Asahikawa Soy Sauce," and "Hakodate Salt," as well as variations like "Spicy Miso" and "Miso Dip," and side dishes such as fried rice, gyoza, and fried chicken. In respect to the restaurant's name "Miso Kuma," I chose the "Thick-sliced Chashu" over the Sapporo Miso. At this chain store, the noodles come in a large portion as a service, so I took advantage of that. After presenting my food ticket, the ramen arrived shortly. It had the typical appearance of miso ramen. First, I tried the soup. It was rich and slightly sweet, a familiar taste. I customized it using various condiments from the table, such as grated ginger, ground sesame, and red onions. The ground sesame even had dried shrimp in it, adding a nice flavor boost. The noodles were smooth and slightly curly, picking up the soup well. The crunchy bean sprouts in the soup were good, but I wished there were more. The thick-sliced chashu was well-seasoned and had a good texture, but the other piece was thin and disappointing for the price. Overall, I was reasonably satisfied with the experience. With their non-stop service and convenient hours, I can see myself visiting more often. I hope they do well despite opening under these circumstances.
