The shop is located right near my house, but I have never been there since I moved in. The sign says "sakana," so I thought it must be an izakaya. Recently, I visited "Chuka Fuji" in the neighborhood and it turned out to be surprisingly good, so I decided to check this place out as well. I entered the shop around 6 pm. The elderly mama seemed a bit surprised, probably because they rarely get new customers. I explained that I live nearby and it was my first time there, then I sat at a table. The interior had a few tables around the counter. The other customers seemed like regulars, chatting with the mama while enjoying their own bottles. The menu was written on a whiteboard behind the counter, with small letters that were hard to read. I had to squint to make out the items. I started with an oolong highball. The appetizer was steamed shrimp and vegetables with a sweet and savory miso sauce. It was neatly presented and tasted good. There didn't seem to be any standout signature dishes, so I ordered fried hokke fish and simmered eggplant. The oolong highball was so good that I had another. Everything was decently tasty. I especially liked the simmered eggplant, the broth had a nice flavor. The mama skillfully prepared the dishes quickly, showing her cooking expertise. It's a nearby, affordable place, so I'll definitely come back for a casual drink. I found another good spot in the neighborhood.
