Pappapasta Mitaka Store @ Mitaka City, Tokyo @ Italian
This is my favorite restaurant, like a home away from home. It has been 4 months since my last review of the spring menu on March 29, 2022, and this time I am reviewing the summer menu. Both Pappapasta and Mamma Pasta, which are part of the same management company (Giro), offer high-level Italian cuisine that can no longer be considered as just a family restaurant. While the menus of both establishments share many similarities, the pizzas are quite different - Pappapasta offers thin, crispy Roman-style crusts, while Mamma Pasta serves thick, chewy Neapolitan-style pizzas, allowing customers to choose based on their preferences. Pappapasta is located a bit further away from my home, facing the Higashi-Hachido Road, while Mamma Pasta is closer on the Koshu Kaido. Pappapasta is located near Tokyo Christian University, at the intersection of Higashi-Hachido Road and Hitomigaoka Street, and has been a part of the Jiro Restaurant System under Odakyu's umbrella for a long time. There are only five Pappapasta locations in total, including Mitaka, Ichikawa, and Konan-dai. The restaurant has a spacious parking lot, and upon entering, you are greeted by a display case of delicious cakes from Giro. The menu is mostly the same as Mamma Pasta's, with a few differences. The main difference lies in the pizzas - Pappapasta offers large, thin-crust pizzas, while Mamma Pasta serves smaller, thicker-crust pizzas. In addition to the fixed menu, there are also daily specials written on the chalkboard, similar to Mamma Pasta. There are also a few items that are exclusive to the Mitaka location. For dinner today, I initially felt like having pizza but ended up choosing pasta instead. I ordered the following:
- Awaji onion cold soup x 2: Rich and refreshing soup with a sweet onion flavor.
- Colorful tomato caprese (from Okumikawa Takahara Village Matsunouen): Beautiful red, green, and yellow mini tomatoes.
- Cold Capellini with live Ezo abalone and seaweed: Cold Capellini topped with a large piece of abalone liver.
- Swordfish and broccoli peperoncino: Al dente spaghetti with a warm peperoncino sauce.
- Tempura of whole shrimp and vegetables with misty sansho salt: Shrimp, zucchini, baby corn, eggplant, all with a crispy coating.
The restaurant, while showing signs of age, has a clean and cozy atmosphere. Since my last visit, they now accept electronic payments, including PayPay, making it more convenient. Overall rating: ★★★★★
