Salarymen would also be delighted with this convenient and reasonably priced lunch option. Yesterday, I talked about going to see a seal engraving exhibition, but today I will share the story of when I came to Kyoto to study seal engraving. As expected, after the event, we went to eat. It's a common topic, and it's easy to imagine that we just had a meal afterwards. And that's exactly what happened. It was raining that day. Quite heavily, in fact. As usual, we had lunch with friends, and despite the suggestion to stay nearby, there was a strong preference to go a bit further to "Sakabukuro" located across Shijo Street. This stylish izakaya is located on the basement floor. While I have used it occasionally for drinking parties, the lunch here is very delicious and reasonably priced. Despite being in a somewhat inconspicuous location, the place is always full of local salarymen and young people. When we checked the daily lunch special, we found that there was simmered Pacific saury. This looks delicious for sure. We chatted about seal engraving while waiting, and the simmered Pacific saury looked really appetizing. While salt-grilled Pacific saury is common, simmered is less common. The small side dishes here are also very tasty. However, I focused my attention on the simmered Pacific saury. It had a rich layer of fat, and the moistness of the simmering was abundant. It was very delicious. The flesh was tender, soft, and had a good separation, with a modest sweet and savory taste. The portion was just right with the small side dishes. While the sashimi and assorted side dishes set and the pork and leek rice bowl also caught my eye, I'll try them next time. Thank you for the meal. After eating, my impression was that this place is popular for a quick lunch break during work, where you can come in and leave quickly, and it has a home-cooked feel but with a professional taste hidden behind it. It's easy to enjoy the variety of flavors, making lunch very enjoyable, and once you've tasted it, you'll be drawn to their izakaya in the evening as well. There are no disappointments, which is great.
