I had a delicious Yudofu meal! The rich and gentle taste of the Yudofu for under 1500 yen is very satisfying. It made my body and mind feel energized! When visiting Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, be sure to try it out. There is always a line, so I recommend going with plenty of time to spare. 😊

*Raw Yuba Bowl ¥1111* *Raw Fu Tadaku ¥583* A popular restaurant for tofu and yuba dishes. I always go around 11:30, but there's usually a one-hour wait. The long-awaited raw yuba bowl was delicious with a strong ginger flavor that paired well with the rice. The raw fu was chewy with a sesame, yuzu, and red miso flavored sauce. It was worth the wait! I want to eat it again soon! ☺️

They sell various tofu dishes on the first floor, and you can eat on the second floor. When I went after lunchtime, I was able to get in without much of a wait. The yuba set meal (might have a different name) was sold out, so I had the yudofu bowl instead, and it was very delicious. I think it would taste even better on a cold day, so I want to try it again in winter.

When you think of Kyoto, you think of Yuba! I searched and found this famous shop! We arrived just before the last order, but decided to wait in line. Unfortunately, the Yuba rice bowl I wanted was sold out (>_<) so I ended up ordering the Toyoke bowl, which was surprisingly delicious! I also ordered Yuba separately ☆ Isn't the cost performance great!? Usually, when you order Yuba at tourist spots, it costs over 1500 yen, but for just a bowl, it's less than 1000 yen, which is amazing! I will definitely go back for a rematch with the Yuba rice bowl ☆

When it gets cold, you crave for hot tofu dishes like yudofu. In Kyoto, there are many high-end restaurants that offer luxurious yudofu, but here you can enjoy delicious tofu dishes at a reasonable price. The restaurant is a three-story building, but it's small, so there is often a long line during lunchtime. The soft and piping hot yudofu with ponzu sauce is a delight, and the silky smooth yuba adds a nice texture. Additionally, they serve complimentary oboro tofu as a starter, and even a soy milk yogurt as a service! Despite already having affordable prices, this kind of service is why there is always a long line.

It's been a while since I visited Kyoto. This time, it's a 1 night, 2 day trip with one companion. Stopped by a bookstore and picked up a guidebook, and the "Nama Yuba Don" caught my eye. It looked so delicious! The restaurant is called "Toyoke Chaya," located in front of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. Made a mental note of it. On the day of the visit, we took a bus. Multiple buses of different routes came and went, causing some anxiety until we finally boarded the right one. However, we got off at the wrong bus stop, but it turned out to be a lucky mistake as we found a popular dorayaki shop on the way. Finally arrived at the restaurant. Around 11:55 on a weekday, there was a line of about 10 people. Waited for about 30 minutes and entered the restaurant. The menu was already decided. I ordered the "Nama Yuba Don" that I fell in love with, while my companion ordered the "Toyoke Don." Let's dig in! The "Nama Yuba Don" was delicious! It was hot and creamy, but the flavor was stronger than expected. The soy milk skin's fragrance was overshadowed by the strong taste of the sauce. I was hoping for a lighter flavor, but it was still tasty! The side dishes were all delicious, especially the "Sokosoko" tofu with tomato basil sauce. The cucumber salad was refreshing and the pickles were also tasty. My companion's "Toyoke Don" was filled with silk tofu, aburaage, and shiitake mushrooms, with a sweet and savory flavor that complemented the dish well. My companion loved it and finished it quickly. Highly recommend the "Toyoke Don"! There was also a dessert called "Cinnamon Tofu" that caught my eye, but I had to resist as we had more food plans for the afternoon. Now, let's head to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. Thank you for the delicious meal.

On the day of practice, I visited Kitano-san and had lunch. I usually have the Toyouke-don, but since it's a cold day, I opted for the Yuba-don with a thick, gooey sauce. I lined up in front of the restaurant for a bit. There are chairs and armrests, so you can wait comfortably. The seating for meals is on the second and third floors, but there are only a few seats, so I wonder if there will be a line. I used to come here a lot in the past, with friends, family, and even my mother and aunts. We would also try to recreate the Toyouke-don at home. The Yuba-don here is topped generously with sauce, piping hot and slightly sweet. It's delicious, especially when you sprinkle some red pepper on top. You get used to the sweetness as you eat, and it becomes really tasty. The portions of the donburi here are quite large, so next time, I'll order it with less rice. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine may be the shrine I visit the most in Kyoto. When I was in Osaka, I would always come here on the 25th of the month. I would leave early in the morning, drive to the antiques market, and then come here. Now that my practice location is nearby, I come to Kitano-san once a week. I love seeing the beautiful, sparkling lanterns lined up in a row.

In front of the torii gate of Kitano-san in Kyoto, there is a very popular shop. Although tofu and other items are sold in department stores and supermarkets, this shop offers a variety of options. On the second and third floors, you can enjoy dishes made with tofu. They are very delicious. After eating, you can go shopping for items like Hirusu and yuba. I bought some turnips and Hirusu on this day. I added a little bit of rapeseed flowers. The Hirusu had plenty of lily bulbs and large ginkgo nuts. I used dashi packs from Kumada Shouten in Osaka's Kuromon Market to make a light broth. The yuba was served generously on top of soba with a sweet bean paste. The soba noodles were from the original Owariya store and were simple with ginger and mitsuba. The hot soba soup was difficult to replicate at home, so I bought some soba soup from the supermarket, which unfortunately turned out to be too sweet. I should have bought the soup they were selling at the shop instead.

This is a restaurant that I highly recommend for taking someone who is visiting Kyoto for the first time or who doesn't come often. My original course always includes the Toyouke-don and Namafu-daraku, as shown in the photo. The Yuba (tofu skin) is also delicious, but the Namafu-daraku is exceptionally tasty and worth recommending. The service is not bad either. For elderly people, the stairs may be difficult to climb, so they may need to sit on the first floor.

Before starting my food blog here, every time I came to Kyoto, I always made sure to eat Yuba-don and do some sightseeing. About 4.5 years ago, even on weekdays, there would be a wait of about 1 hour, but maybe due to the current situation or because it was a weekday, I was able to get in without waiting at 12 o'clock! Oh, how nice!! When I come here, it's always Yuba-don! And I always order the soy milk yogurt too! Sometimes I even get a lot of soy milk yogurt to take home. It's nostalgic - consistently delicious! I've tried Yuba-don at other places after knowing the deliciousness here, but I felt the taste was too bland at other places, so Toyouke Chaya is still my favorite. The perfect balance of not too thick or too thin sauce is the best. When you come to Kyoto, be sure to try it! Yuba-don is a must! The soy milk yogurt is thick and creamy, and the blueberry sauce always goes well with it. It has less acidity than regular yogurt, which I really like.

When I come here, I prepare to wait in line. However, I think it's worth the wait because the tofu is delicious. I wasn't a big fan of tofu before, but after trying the tofu from this shop, I was surprised by how tasty it was. It has a rich flavor, sweetness, and fragrance that spreads in your mouth. On this hot day, I ordered the tofu meal set. Even though I had to wait in line, I was very satisfied. However, I still prefer the hot tofu dish. Thank you for the meal.

I lined up at Toyouke Chaya near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine in Kyoto, a popular tofu shop, because I wanted to try their popular Yuba-don. I love tofu and yuba dishes, so I was really looking forward to it. There was a line even before the shop opened, but luckily we were able to get a table on the first round. Besides the Yuba-don, they had various other menu items, but since I wanted to try different foods in Kyoto, I only ordered the Yuba-don here. When the Yuba-don arrived, the color was quite dark and the flavor was also strong. I thought to myself, "Hmm, this tastes more like the broth than the yuba itself." Maybe I made a mistake in my menu selection. If you want to enjoy the true taste of tofu or yuba, it's better to go for a simple dish or just enjoy the tofu/yuba itself. The Yuba-don has a striking appearance and the thick broth flavor may appeal to those who enjoy it, as the creamy texture of the yuba mixes well with the broth. However, since I personally prefer the taste of tofu/yuba itself, this strong broth-flavored Yuba-don was not to my liking. Thank you for the meal.

This is a restaurant located in front of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine that also has a tofu shop. I wasn't expecting much since it seemed to cater to tourists, but the fresh wheat gluten bowl I had was quite a hit. I love wheat gluten, so seeing it in a bowl for the first time was a pleasant surprise. The restaurant is a narrow three-story building with limited seating, but the tables are not cramped. They offer tofu-based dishes like hot tofu, yuba bowl, and kitsune udon. The fresh wheat gluten bowl (1078 yen) comes in a deep bowl with two types of wheat gluten. It is seasoned with a sweet and savory flavor, different from the refined taste of traditional kaiseki dishes, but still delicious in its own way. It is generously portioned and served with tofu, cold tofu, pickles, and a small vegetable side dish, making it a satisfying meal. I thought I was having a light lunch, but it turned out to be quite filling.

I went on a day trip to Kyoto for sightseeing and used the Sky Hop bus to get off at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, where I was intrigued by the fresh yuba rice bowl. I arrived at the restaurant at 11:30 after missing the first bus and catching the second one. Luckily, there was no one in front of the shop when I arrived, but soon a crowd formed. I had to wait for about 30 minutes, during which some people went shopping for tofu and other items. Feeling hungry, I ordered the fresh yuba rice bowl and fresh fu dengaku. The fresh yuba rice bowl was quite flavorful, with a thick and delicious broth. My child ordered the egg zosui, which was also flavorful and delicious, but the portion was large and they wanted to try something different. The fresh fu dengaku was chewy and a nice palate cleanser. My friend ordered the kitsune udon and it was worth the wait. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived at the restaurant about 15 minutes before it opened, but there was already a long line. Even after we got in line, more and more people kept coming. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to get in during the first round, but luckily we made it in right at the end of the first round. Close call! We ordered the Kyoto vegetable and fresh yuba meal, fresh yuba bowl, and fresh fu dengaku. The taste was okay, the yuba had a slightly gritty texture and the seasoning was inconsistent between being too light or too strong. The only things that were delicious were the fresh fu dengaku and the dessert, toyoke manju. I think the cost performance is good, but I don't feel the need to wait in line to eat here again.

I visited the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine to see the plum blossoms and stopped by this restaurant after a long time. The shop is right in front of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. It opens at 11:00, but it's a popular place so I arrived around 10:30 and lined up first. Soon after, more people lined up as well. We ordered the fresh yuba rice bowl and the tofu skin rice bowl to share with my husband. The fresh yuba rice bowl had a rich yuba in a thick, creamy sauce, which was incredibly delicious. It truly lived up to being a tofu shop. The tofu skin rice bowl had silky tofu and fresh wheat gluten simmered in a sweet and savory sauce, which was also very tasty. I love both types of rice bowls. The tofu served at the beginning was also delicious. There is always a long line, but it's definitely worth the wait. I will definitely come back again.

The location is excellent, and you can easily enjoy a set meal of tofu and yuba. It's a popular restaurant. Although we were a little off for lunchtime, we lined up and entered. The yudofu set meal was reasonably priced, and I enjoyed the melting tofu. There are also various tofu dishes to enjoy. It seemed that takeout was also available for items like fried tofu and tofu. Highly recommended restaurant.

Usually, there is a long line at the tofu shop across from Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, but due to the current situation, the line is not as long and it feels more calm. I don't like waiting in line for a long time, so I decided to line up when there were no people before opening, aiming to enter the shop as soon as it opens. While waiting, an elderly staff member informed us that they would be opening soon. When the shop opened, I was the first one inside, and another staff member directed me to the third floor since the main floor was not ready yet. I secured a sunny seat on the third floor and ordered about four items, including the main dish "Nama Yuba Don." The first dish that came was an appetizer made with tofu called "Hiyayakko," which had a nice combination of tofu's gentle sweetness and a dressing with acidity. The "Nama Yuba Don" was served with side dishes and pickles. It had plenty of yuba topped with a ginger sauce. The side dish was a vinegar dish with cucumber, myoga, and thin fried tofu. The pickles included daikon radish and shiba-zuke. The "Nama Fu Dengaku" was a grilled dish with three different miso flavors on raw wheat gluten. The "Negi Age" was made by grilling tofu pouches with green onions and serving them with grated ginger and a special soy sauce. The "Cinnamon Tofu" was a dessert-like dish with black syrup and cinnamon powder. Lastly, I bought a dessert called "Toyoke Manju" as a souvenir, which was a soybean paste-filled steamed bun made with tofu and rice flour. It had a mild sweetness and was perfect with Japanese tea. I enjoyed the tofu dishes in a retro-style interior while looking at the big Torii gate of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine outside, creating a nostalgic and peaceful atmosphere.

I found this restaurant in the gourmet book "Kyoto Washoku 100 Selections" released in September this year. Reservations are not accepted, and meals must be ordered by 2:00 pm upon arrival at the restaurant. After that, only tofu and yuba products are available for purchase. They no longer offer set meals like hirouzu. I had the Toyouke Donburi (3 small side dishes + pickles) and Namafu Dengaku (single item). The pickles were delicious, and the various soybean dishes in the bowl were also tasty. It's a shame that hirouzu is no longer available even as a single item. The service was great, and I had a very satisfying lunch. Please note that they accept cash only.
