This is a restaurant where Mr. Ueoka from Jinshu Building and a colleague from his hotel days, who are of the same age, have a very close relationship. The restaurant is located right near Motonaka Station, but the alley leading to the restaurant has a somewhat eerie feel. It feels like an adventure. The restaurant itself has an old feel to it, but it has been renovated cleanly. The space is small with a counter and three tables. The concept is to have lunch starting from 2 o'clock, so you can enjoy daytime drinking. Everything is à la carte. The restaurant is run by a husband and wife, and there were a few anniversary celebration decorations hanging up. We started with Sapporo Red Star beer and Ali Mountain Oolong tea. Looking at the menu on the blackboard, all the dishes looked delicious and it was hard to choose. While waiting for the dishes, we nibbled on nuts with brown sugar coating. The steamed clams with XO sauce for 880 yen were delicious, with a rich flavor and overflowing clam umami. The xiaolongbao for 660 yen had thin skin and plenty of soup. The Dragon's Beard Roll for 660 yen was made by wrapping shrimp and conger eel surimi in kataifi and frying it, with a mayonnaise-based sauce. The flavor was so rich that it almost tasted like meat. The Wagyu beef in mysterious sauce for 1650 yen had a Sichuan sauce with all five flavors but wasn't too salty, sweet, or sour. The meat was tender, and the sauce had a strong aroma of five-spice powder, with a spicy Sichuan kick. The steamed white fish and pickled mustard greens hot pot for 1650 yen featured grouper that day, with plenty of vegetables like Chinese cabbage, watercress, mushrooms, and sweet potatoes. The gentle Cantonese flavor and thick soup with a kick of ginger warmed us up. The salted egg and chicken rice ball for 550 yen was about the size of one onigiri, hot and chewy. The cooking skills were solid, and the prices were casual. Reservations are still relatively easy to make. It may be a bit inconvenient to get to for dinner due to transfers, but I will visit again for a late lunch.

I visited for lunch. Since it's Chinese cuisine, those who are not used to mainland flavors may not need to eat the appetizers. There are a few dishes that can only be eaten at night, so I would like to visit at night next time. I have only shared photos of the dishes that I found delicious. It's not a set course, so it's better to ask in advance.

I visited this restaurant because I saw that Mairebi-san had been here multiple times. The exterior of the restaurant is very suspicious, giving off a vibe that would fit right into a Hong Kong movie from the 80s to 90s. It looks like a haunted house. It's run by a couple, and the lady who served us was very polite and cheerful. The prices seem to fall into the category of a typical Chinese restaurant, but the quality of the food is not quite there. It's not quite a typical Chinese restaurant, nor is it a high-end one. It's like a mix of both. The menu had a variety of dishes that you don't see often. The owner mentioned that he used to work at the same hotel as the famous chef from "Renxiulou". The dishes we tried, like century egg tofu, assorted appetizers, kataifi, radish cake, and eel wrapped in grape leaves, were all delicious. It seems like they put a lot of effort into preparing their dishes. If this restaurant was closer, I would definitely come here more often. Thank you for the meal.

I didn't enjoy the high-end Chinese cuisine with sophisticated and refined flavors because I'm not a fan of the typical ingredients found in such dishes. However, I did like the crispy century egg tofu and the lettuce fried rice, which had a nice oily texture. Overall, the food was decent, and the total bill for two people came to around 12,000 yen, which felt a bit pricey but reasonable considering the quality. I imagine a similar quality meal in the city center would cost around 10,000 yen per person.

This is a Chinese cuisine restaurant. It is a favorite of senior customers, and I made a reservation over a month ago for my first visit. I was amazed by the shockingly delicious dishes. Kyoto truly has many unique and deep restaurants. The only drawback for me is that it's difficult to get a reservation at this place.

The dishes were easy to eat in small portions and delicious. The noodles and soup in the soup soba were exquisite. I would go back just for that. The hot and sour tofu was also good! The nostalgic Taisho-era retro atmosphere creates a unique space that seems perfect for Shaoxing wine. (Unfortunately, it was a day when I couldn't drink alcohol). It's a shame that they don't accept cards, but it's a restaurant I would like to visit again.

A hidden gem with a great atmosphere. The menu is extensive and everything is delicious! The shark fin soup is a good size and a great value. The rice noodle rolls with white onions are a nice touch. The dishes prepared by the skilled chef are all delicious. The braised shark fin is exceptional! The atmosphere of the restaurant and the service were also great.

The food is delicious no matter what you order, and the drinks are enjoyable too. I recommend coming here after an early morning workout. The portion sizes are generous, and the platters are satisfying. There is a wide selection of Shaoxing wine and non-alcoholic options, making ordering a fun experience. It's best to come with three or more people so you can try a variety of dishes.

Near Motonakata Station, there is a Chinese restaurant called "Yi Pantsai Tanaka" which is said to be the most talked-about Chinese restaurant in Kyoto right now. It's difficult to make a reservation as the restaurant is always full, but the food is authentic Chinese cuisine with extra care put into each dish, and the taste is outstanding! I didn't order much this time as I had plans to visit other restaurants, but they have a lot of attractive menu items. Make sure to make a reservation in advance!

Arriving after stopping by a delicious bakery and wine shop, we found the restaurant tucked away from the main street with no prior information. The sign at the entrance indicated that they were fully booked for the day. The lunch service started at 2 pm, which was convenient for families looking to enjoy a midday drink. We arrived at 2 pm and were seated promptly. The restaurant was small, run by a husband and wife. We were served a starter and cutlery, and first up was a fresh salad. Excitedly looking at the mouth-watering menu, we decided to start with some appetizers. The appetizers, with their gentle seasoning that brought out the natural flavors of the ingredients, were a delight unique to Kyoto. The spring rolls were crispy and moist, filled generously with ingredients. The kataifi was also delicious. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I read the Tabelog Magazine and visited this restaurant located at the back of a parking lot. The place had a clean and cozy atmosphere, and despite the cold weather, I didn't feel cold at all. I was intrigued by the fact that they only serve grilled dishes at night, so I made a reservation for dinner. I really liked the jellyfish in the appetizer and wanted to order it again. The century egg, xiaolongbao, stir-fried vegetables, assorted grilled dishes, and fried kataifi were all to my liking. The overall taste was gentle, giving me the impression of "Kyoto-style Chinese cuisine". While there was no strong impression, each dish seemed to be carefully prepared. It was a gentle and delicious restaurant. The restroom is located outside, which initially worried me, but it turned out to be unfounded concern.

It was my first visit. The place was a bit hard to find and I got lost, but eventually arrived. There were many Chinese restaurants in this area, although it's not exactly a Chinatown. Among them, this one was the most difficult to locate. The entrance had a unique atmosphere that made me a bit nervous. Once inside, I found a small restaurant with a counter and two tables. I fell in love with this place from the first appetizer. The steamed chicken I had might be the best I've ever had. I got excited, and when I tried the jellyfish and century egg, I was convinced that this place never disappoints. I forgot to take photos, but the radish cake and xiaolongbao were outstanding. Every dish I tried was incredibly delicious. I think it's run by a husband and wife, and the timing of clearing the plates by the wife was perfect, making it a very pleasant experience. If you don't like cilantro, make sure to mention it in advance as many dishes come with plenty of it. Cilantro lovers will be in heaven. While I have a favorite place for shark fin soup, the one here came close to it in flavor. The chef was friendly and even saw us off, making it a restaurant I definitely want to visit again. It's now my favorite place to go.

There is a good restaurant that is not well known among gourmet people living in Kyoto. The location is interesting and the food is cheap and delicious. The place used to be a Chinese restaurant before. I ordered a variety of dishes including appetizers, dim sum, shark fin soup, pork trotters, beer-soaked whelks, stir-fried eggplant with minced pork, mapo tofu, roasted pork, seafood and garlic chive yakisoba. Especially the shark fin soup and the stir-fried whelks were delicious. The speed of service was fast and the prices were not too high, except for the shark fin. It's a good restaurant with friendly staff and a great atmosphere. I will definitely visit again.

Time difference post. The visit date may not necessarily match the posting date. I decided to visit after seeing a story from someone I follow on Instagram. I made a reservation in advance and it turned out to be the right decision. Apart from the Qingdao beer-marinated dish and drooling chicken, I picked dishes from the menu on Tabelog, so there is a possibility that the prices are excluding tax. "Appetizer" The roasted peanuts are delicious. I chose Asahi beer as they had it. They also had Qingdao beer. "Century Egg Tofu" 700 yen. This was exquisite. The crispy texture and perfect seasoning were amazing. The century egg itself is delicious, and the slight vinegar pickling was a nice touch. I could just keep eating this dish. "Xiaolongbao" 600 yen. "Crystal Steamed Dumplings" 550 yen. "Spring Rolls" 350 yen. "Assorted Shumai" 750 yen. "Special Meat Bun" 330 yen. "Meatballs" The shumai included glutinous rice, shrimp, and a spicy seafood variety. I preferred the spicy one. I like fried dishes more than steamed ones. The meatballs had glass noodles at the bottom, which I enjoyed. "Kadaif" 600 yen, labeled as Dragon's Beard Roll. Crispy fried with plump shrimp inside. The sauce was mild and I could drink it alone. It was worth coming here just for this! "Drooling Chicken" 1100 yen. The seasoning was not my preference, but I still found it delicious. "Boneless Pork Feet Qingdao Beer-Marinated (deep-fried)" 880 yen. It was crispy and fluffy, very tasty. "Sichuan Mapo Tofu" The numbing spiciness was delicious. They also gave me rice. "Fried Rice" I could choose between seafood fried rice, spicy, or mild. I chose spicy. The cumin was irresistible, and it was full of scallops and shrimp. The lettuce played a good role too! "Soup Noodles" 1000 yen. It was recommended, and I ordered it. It's soup noodles, but you can also add finely sliced char siu and sautéed leeks on the side. The soup noodles alone had a lot of umami, but adding the char siu made it even heartier. This is definitely addictive! Everything was delicious. I would like to try other dishes next time.

At the third stop of the Kyoto Chinese cuisine crawl, we visited the restaurant "Ippansai Tanaka" in Gion. Located at the former site of my favorite Shanghai Band restaurant in Kyoto, I was delighted to discover another fantastic Chinese dining experience here. The standout dishes were the soup with white fish and the high-temperature grilled pork belly with skin. The soup was rich in flavor with a concentrated broth made from carefully simmered beans and Chinese ingredients, making the fish and vegetables incredibly delicious. The pork belly, cooked in a special grill introduced by the owner, had a crispy skin and juicy meat, making it a perfect accompaniment. The drink menu featured Shaoxing wine, sake, and craft gin, adding to the overall experience. I was initially skeptical about the restaurant living up to the deliciousness of the Shanghai Band, but I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly satisfied. The meticulous work and sense of the owner, who has years of experience working in hotels, were evident in the fantastic Chinese dishes served. With so many other enticing menu options, I will definitely be returning for more. It was truly a delicious meal. Thank you for the feast!

We visited Mr. E-Pan Tsai Tanaka as both my girlfriend and I wanted to go there. We were deciding between steamed chicken and saliva chicken, and ended up ordering the steamed chicken. It was so delicious that we couldn't resist ordering the saliva chicken as well. #Ippansai Tanaka #Chinese cuisine #Kyoto gourmet #Kyoto dinner #Mototanaka #Demachiyanagi #Ichijoji #Steamed chicken #Saliva chicken #Kadaif #Shumai #Xiaolongbao #Tabelog #Connect with people who love gourmet #Connect with people who love eating #Gourmet Instagram

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant for a while, but it was always fully booked. Finally, I was able to get a reservation this time. Since I had to drive back home, I couldn't have any alcohol, so I opted for jasmine tea. The tea was served in a unique cup for extracting the tea leaves. To start, I had some dried fruits and nuts while waiting for my dishes. The crystal steamed dumplings had a filling similar to glass noodles, and they looked beautiful and transparent. The soup dumplings were juicy and flavorful. The scallops with flat glass noodles in yuzu pepper cream were delicious, with sweet scallops and a nice touch of yuzu pepper. The shrimp mayo dish came with granola, which added a nice texture to the dish. The shrimp was firm and tasty. The mapo tofu made with four types of doubanjiang had just the right amount of spiciness and was delicious. I ended the meal with soup noodles, which had sweet pork on top. Overall, all the dishes were delicious, the atmosphere was great, and I would definitely like to visit this restaurant again. The total cost for two people was 9020 yen. It's a bit pricey, but considering the delicious food, I was very satisfied.

On this day, I visited "Ippansen Tanaka" near the Tanano-mae intersection. It's located about 3-4 minutes from Motonaka Station. This restaurant is associated with "Inshuro" in Shichiku and they both have a good relationship. I ordered the "Assorted Cold Appetizers" for 2600 yen, "Assorted Shumai" for 750 yen, "Char Siu Pie" for 350 yen, "Kadaif (Dragon Beard Roll)" for 600 yen, and "Dried Scallop Chinese Porridge" for 500 yen. Starting with the "Pecan Nut Candy"~ the meal was great! The "Assorted Cold Appetizers" included squid, sweet potatoes, wood ear mushrooms, baby bamboo shoots, and steamed chicken. All were delicious. The "Assorted Shumai" had three varieties: yellow with onion, white with spicy seafood, and red with beef and mozzarella cheese. The "Char Siu Pie" had a subtle char siu flavor. The "Kadaif (Dragon Beard Roll)" was a must-try with its crunchy texture and shrimp filling. The "Dried Scallop Chinese Porridge" had a rich flavor from the dried scallops. Looking forward to the next visit!
