Next to the Higashiyama Kiyomizu-dera Temple, the Park Hyatt Kyoto has opened on the 4th floor rooftop balcony, where you can find this penthouse bar. From dusk to twilight, the purple gradation in the background, along with the illuminated Yasaka Pagoda and Kyoto Tower, create an impressive borrowed landscape. With only 12 counter seats and 2 sofa seats, this bar has the potential to become a new landmark in Kyoto for bar enthusiasts. The specialty here is a variety of original cocktails themed around Kyoto, Japan, and the four seasons. One example is a short cocktail using matcha based on the famous sake from Fushimi, Kyoto, called "Moroha-buri." This smooth cocktail, reminiscent of sipping on green tea, is designed to appeal to overseas and female customers as a straightforward Kyoto original cocktail. The charm here is the sesame and buckwheat flour tuile. It pairs perfectly with the tofu dip, making you want more. The olives marinated in dashi and sansho pepper are also irresistibly delicious. The olives are small and easy to eat, and the dashi has soaked through to the core, creating a unique Japanese flavor. However, the best specialty of this bar is the stunning view of Kyoto from the full glass back bar. The illuminated Yasaka Pagoda and Kyoto Tower in front of you, changing from sunset to twilight to night view, keep you mesmerized throughout. The first drink to quench your dry throat in winter is the Oloroso Sonic. As expected from a luxury hotel bar, they have a wide selection of sherry, which is delightful. The go-to drink here is the Gimlet, made with the classic Tanqueray No. Ten gin. The shake by the female bartender, which seems typical of an HBA member, is unexpectedly strong, and the meticulous ice distribution is impressive. The Shuhari cocktail wraps the taste of rice from Moroha-buri in matcha and grapefruit juice, creating a gentle and Kyoto-like finish. The clientele at this bar, fittingly described as having a breathtaking view, is mostly executives from overseas. Reservations can only be made by hotel guests, but if seats are available, anyone can use the bar after confirming by phone. However, just like at Park Hyatt Tokyo, finding your way to the bar is quite challenging. You need to take the elevator at the far end from the front desk, go out to the rooftop balcony once, and then re-enter the penthouse, a route that seems passable once you know it.
