It's a shop located under the Shinkansen platform at Kyoto Station. Looking at the Yatsuhashi again, I realized they now have flavors like matcha, chocolate, and custard. It made me crave them, so I got the Nikki with smooth red bean paste, coarse red bean paste, and chocolate bean paste to take home. When I opened them, they were divided into two packs, making it easy to eat a little at a time with tea at home. The smooth and coarse red bean paste ones had a nostalgic taste, while the chocolate one was like a Japanese-style dessert, showing that chocolate goes well with Yatsuhashi too. It was enjoyable to try these nostalgic yet modernized Yatsuhashi.

Today, I bought some black sesame hachimaki as a souvenir for my home from this store. There are various flavors of hachimaki available, but I really like the black sesame ones because of their nice sesame aroma. This time, my child also tried it for the first time and finished one piece quickly. It costs around 250 yen per piece, which is quite reasonable.

I took refuge in a station building due to a sudden rain and decided to rest to relieve fatigue. I visited a shop and ordered a set of white mochi and matcha for 1000 yen. The white mochi was topped with black honey and was surprisingly moist and delicious. The tea had a deep bitterness which complemented the white mochi well. It was a relaxing time. Thank you for the meal.

Thank you for always liking my posts. I visited this shop on my way back from a family event in Kyoto, for both personal use and souvenirs. The Yatsuhashi has a traditional cinnamon flavor that I really like, but recently there are also variations like "peach flavor" and "ramune flavor" which add to the fun of choosing. Matcha flavor is a classic, but the new variations are unique and make great souvenirs too! The Shiramochi with kinako and black honey has a nostalgic taste. I also bought some for home. Thank you for the delicious meal. I will visit again!

Today, I visited the main Nishio Yatsuhashi store located right near the Shinkansen station in Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture. The storefront is easy to spot, with lanterns displaying the kanji for "Nishio" boldly. When it comes to Kyoto's Yatsuhashi, there is always debate about which is the oldest, but I believe that the most consistently gentlemanly company is here, at the main Nishio Yatsuhashi store. I have been familiar with this taste since the early Showa period. Whether for souvenirs, gifts, or personal use, you can't go wrong with anything here. The flavors may vary, such as strawberry or milk, but for matcha, cinnamon, or coarse red bean, it's all about this pink bag with the Nishio logo. While Yatsuhashi shops are found in public souvenir stores, you don't have to go to a specialty shop to buy them. If there isn't much of a difference in taste, I always choose the reliable Nishio. I will definitely visit again. Thank you very much.

This seems to be the oldest Yatsuhashi shop in Kyoto. I bought some as souvenirs since it was located inside Kyoto Station.
- The shop only has a storefront, which is a bit colorful and easy to use.
- The staff at the shop are just regular guys.
- It was slightly crowded on a Saturday afternoon around 3 pm.
- The customers seemed to be mostly tourists.
- They sell various items like Yatsuhashi and chiffon cakes.
- The total cost of my purchases was 2,656 yen.
Overall:
- I bought the Yatsuhashi assortment as a souvenir for my company, so I didn't actually eat it, but I think it would be delicious.
- The Yatsuhashi chocolate banana and chocolate strawberry were chewy and mostly filled with red bean paste. The flavors were chocolate strawberry and chocolate banana, but my child didn't like them.
- The pure rice chiffon cake was soft and fluffy with a gentle sweetness, very delicious.
I don't eat Yatsuhashi often, so I don't have a standard for its taste, but the chiffon cake was really good. Yatsuhashi seems like a perfect souvenir for those who love it.

Here in Kyoto, there are various shops selling Yatsuhashi, and I purchased souvenirs at the "Honke Nishio Yatsuhashi" Hachijo-guchi store on ASTY Road at JR Kyoto Station. When it comes to Kyoto souvenirs, Yatsuhashi is probably the first thing that comes to mind. Even though people from Kyoto don't eat it much, when giving it as a gift, it's better to give the whole box rather than individually wrapped pieces. However, this store also offers individually wrapped pieces. The shop also has a restaurant called "Gion Tamazirou" that serves Kyoto specialties such as udon and soba. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to explore it thoroughly, but they apparently serve parfaits as well. I bought the "Summer Trio," "Mitarashi Omann," and "Annama Assortment." The only one I could eat was the "Summer Trio" with matcha and the "Mitarashi Omann." The "Summer Trio" is a soft Yatsuhashi with red bean paste, including cinnamon, matcha, and ramune flavors, individually wrapped. I wanted to try the ramune flavor, but ended up with matcha. The texture of the dough is great, and the combination of matcha and red bean paste is excellent. It's hard to stop eating once you start. The "Mitarashi Omann" is mochi balls with sweet soy sauce inside. There are 6 pieces in each pack, and I bought 2 packs. The outer layer stretches a bit, and the sauce inside is slightly sweet. The leaflet says "The oldest Yatsuhashi shop in Kyoto."

My family bought this snack. It has a unique taste compared to regular Yatsuhashi. It's not something you see at events like the Kyoto exhibition, but it's one of my favorite treats. It's similar to Shingen Mochi as you sprinkle soybean flour and black honey on it, but what sets it apart is the round shape of the fresh Yatsuhashi. I recommend it to those who enjoy the taste of Yatsuhashi. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. What I ate: Shiro Mochi - 540 yen

The popular cafes were all crowded, so I visited this one where the line was relatively short. It's a cafe from Nishio, known for its Yatsuhashi. I ordered the matcha parfait. It was filled with macarons, shiratama (rice flour dumplings), sweet red bean paste, sponge cake, matcha ice cream, vanilla ice cream, and at the bottom of the glass was matcha pudding. Each ingredient was well-balanced and delicious.

Yatsuhashi is still delicious after all. There are various types available now ^_^ I bought the Nikki and chocolate flavors. The Nikki flavor still has that same scent, moist and chewy texture, and the elegant red bean paste inside really makes you feel the essence of Kyoto confectionery. It's impressive how this tradition has been passed down since the Edo period. The chocolate flavor is also delicious ^_^

This is a shop that sells Yatsuhashi. I stopped by a Yatsuhashi shop on the way to the Shinkansen platform. There were various flavors of Yatsuhashi available in a pack of 5 pieces. I decided to buy Yatsuhashi in chocolate banana flavor for 250 yen, strawberry flavor for 250 yen, and peach flavor for 250 yen. I found it interesting that there were different flavors to choose from. The chocolate banana Yatsuhashi had a yellow dough with a subtle chocolate banana flavor. The dough was moist and chewy.

Today, I was wandering around Kyoto Station after work. I was stopped by a shopkeeper near Hachijo exit, so I decided to stop by.
■ Honke Nishio Yatsuhashi
This is a long-established shop of Kyoto's famous confectionery "Yatsuhashi". The main store is located in Sakyo-ku's Shogoin, with a history of over 300 years. This is the Hachijo exit store at Kyoto Station.
One of the popular products from Honke Nishio Yatsuhashi is the "Nama Yatsuhashi". Recently, it seems that various types are being sold. It is reasonably priced starting from 250 yen each. I purchased a seasonal limited edition Nama Yatsuhashi to take home.
● Nama Yatsuhashi (Sakura)
There were 5 pieces in one package. It is a thin pink Nama Yatsuhashi with cherry blossom leaves. It felt like I was eating Nama Yatsuhashi after a long time! The cherry blossom flavor was delightful, and the texture was chewy. It was a perfect Japanese confectionery for a snack.

When it comes to bringing souvenirs from Kyoto for friends, Yatsuhashi is a must! This is the oldest Yatsuhashi shop in Kyoto. I love that they sell various flavors in small bags. They also have seasonal limited editions. I chose the classic cinnamon flavor, the seasonal strawberry, and the popular chocolate banana. They also offer boxed versions for special occasions, but the small bags are convenient for when you just want a little bit. They have a shelf life of one week, making them perfect for giving to someone who is alone. I wonder if they will be happy with them?

A parfait where you can enjoy both Kyoto's specialty Yatsuhashi and matcha. This shop is relatively unknown, so you can usually get in without waiting too long, making it a hidden gem. It's recommended for when you have time to spare, like while waiting for the Shinkansen. Since it's a Yatsuhashi shop's parfait, it comes with black sesame Yatsuhashi. The highlight of this parfait is that even people who don't like whipped cream can enjoy it! Unlike many other parfaits, this one has less cream and is packed with matcha, including matcha chiffon cake, matcha blancmange, matcha ice cream, and lots of matcha! Also, the matcha macaron on top is delicious too! Being able to enjoy a matcha-packed parfait without waiting at Kyoto Station is truly a blessing.

It's Yatsuhashi. I don't eat it much these days. It's not used much as a souvenir either. I ate it after a long time. It's nostalgic!

I had duck udon, chicken ramen, and matcha parfait. The udon had a refined dashi broth that was comforting. The chicken ramen had a light white broth that wasn't greasy and very elegant. The chicken chashu was tender and the subtle flavor of the chicken was delicious. The matcha parfait is a must-try.
