Tonight, I came to play in Kawaramachi, Kyoto. Kyoto has a certain elegance and is full of emotions. Walking along Shijo-dori, as time passed, my stomach began to growl. I wondered if there was a good restaurant nearby... A friend who knows Kyoto well recommended a restaurant known for delicious Kyoto vegetables, so I decided to visit. We entered a narrow alley off of Tomikoji Street, where many shops were crowded together among old machiya townhouses. The restaurant we found was "Sumika Tomikoji," located on the second floor up a staircase. The interior was a small, cozy space with black-themed walls, small counter, and tables set with elegant dishes illuminated by lighting. We were seated at a comfortable table and toasted with a small bottle of sparkling wine. Along with it, we were served a starter of thinly sliced eggplant with red plum sauce, which paired nicely. The next dish we ordered was a beer paired with the restaurant's specialty side dishes. The combination was enjoyable, especially the crispy mountain pepper salted taro and the sweet simmered new onions. We then had a sashimi platter of Sayori, houbou, and sawara, which was beautifully presented and tasted incredibly fresh. We also enjoyed some grilled vegetables, including yellow zucchini, sweet young corn, and shiitake mushrooms, each showcasing the natural flavors of Kyoto vegetables. The meal was complemented with a Japanese sake spritz and asparagus bacon, which was a perfect match for the healthy and delicious dishes. Overall, we had a cozy and enjoyable evening filled with the unique flavors of Kyoto vegetables. Thank you, it was a delightful meal.

A great value restaurant in Kyoto. Try sprinkling crispy potato fries over the cha-han with dried fish and Kyoto pickles (as shown in the photo), it's delicious. Also, the yogurt liquor mixed with nectar is a hit with the ladies (be careful not to drink too much). The tofu dishes are also tasty. However, it was disappointing that the menu listed on Tabelog was not available (Nishikyo-yaki).

When it comes to Kyoto, "obanzai" is the first thing that comes to mind. In the past six months, I have realized that not everything labeled "Kyoto vegetable obanzai" is necessarily delicious. Especially obanzai without any heat. Family restaurant-style establishments that offer obanzai set meals tend to be just average or below average. It's not bad, but... that was my perception as a tourist. On a holiday evening around 10:00 PM, a Kyoto resident took me to a bar to find a place to drink. The first choice was unfortunately full, but we were able to come here. This is an izakaya specializing in obanzai. The first thing you should order is the "obanzai three-item platter (1,100 yen)"... it's well-prepared and has heat. Another interesting aspect of ordering at this restaurant is that you can choose the vegetable you want and then select the cooking method. The menu design is excellent! When you think about it, the combination of personal taste and quality ingredients really shines. It's very suitable for coming with women. Personally, I have been thinking that the use of Kujyo green onions in Kansai is not that great, but at this timing, I tried a dish with Kujyo green onions and thought, "That's right!" Kyoto locals really know how to use Kujyo green onions well... I got pleasantly drunk. It's also great that they stay open late. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

The all-you-can-drink course for 4500 yen per person was great value, with Sapporo Lager beer in bottles (which was a nice change). Each dish was generously portioned, satisfying even someone like me who loves to eat. The miso soup and mixed rice at the end had a delicious flavor, with the essence of the fish broth really coming through in the miso soup, which tasted great after drinking alcohol.

Located a 5-7 minute walk from Kawaramachi Station in Kyoto, is the izakaya "Sumika Fushimi-koji Store". This popular izakaya offers healthy dishes made with Kyoto vegetables and a wide selection of drinks. They accept online reservations, making it easy to secure a booking. With counter seats, table seats, large group seating, and private rooms available, this izakaya is versatile for various occasions.
We tried the special party course at Sumika, which started with traditional Kyoto appetizers, followed by sashimi including tuna, a salad with plenty of tofu, a soft and flavorful tomato dish, a refreshing eggplant dish, and crispy fried yam. The teppanyaki with pork and aromatic vegetables was a highlight, with a caramelized sweetness that was irresistible. The tempura with spring vegetables, corn rice, and miso soup made for a body-friendly course from start to finish.
If you're planning a large group gathering in Kyoto, this popular restaurant is highly recommended. Be sure to visit and enjoy! Thank you for the meal!

I have been to this restaurant many times and the food prepared by the staff at the Tomikoji store is the most delicious. I have been to other branches as well, but I was surprised by the difference in taste even though they have the same menu and recipes. The cost performance is excellent and I enjoyed the meal this time as well.

I made a reservation and enjoyed my meal while chatting with the staff at the counter! The side dishes, seafood ankake rice, and drinks were all delicious! They also have spacious tatami rooms that seem perfect for large parties. I recommend it! The smell of tobacco didn't bother me too much!

Visited alone after 9 pm. The meticulous work from the appetizer raised my expectations for the meal! Ordered chilled tofu, three kinds of side dishes, half size of fried chicken, beer, and highball for a total of 3960 yen. The chilled tofu was recommended to be eaten with salt and wasabi, but personally, I think it's best with just wasabi! The tofu had a really rich flavor and was incredibly delicious! The fried taro root was also excellent, and the boiled komatsuna with a nice broth was delicious too. Thank you for the feast! ♫

I visited for the first time in 2015. It was very popular and I was able to make a last-minute reservation. The menu features various vegetables prepared in different ways, and I particularly enjoyed the sweet potato tempura and the grilled ray fin. I would definitely revisit this restaurant when I come to Kyoto again.

I contacted them on Saturday night and luckily they had an opening, so I made a reservation and went. The dishes here are all of very high quality and I was surprised! Many dishes highlight the deliciousness of vegetables, and there are a lot of menus that are an arrangement of Kyoto's ingredients, so you can eat many delicious things different from traditional Kyoto cuisine! The cost performance is also good, so I thought it was a very good restaurant!

There are stairs to go up to the second floor on the north side of Yotofu Kaikan. There is a counter, booths, and a mysterious loft. The yoboro tofu is soft, rich, and delicious. The portion size is quite generous. The assorted vegetables were delicious. It has a casual izakaya feel. It may not be suitable for important business dinners or special occasions. I will definitely visit again.

You can enjoy Kyoto-style cuisine and a wide variety of drinks at this restaurant, which offers delicious dishes at a good cost performance. If you prefer heartier meals, you may want to consider it as a second stop. I particularly enjoyed the squid tempura and the assorted obanzai dishes. The staff were friendly and even helped with a last-minute birthday surprise, accommodating various requests. Sitting at the counter added to the lively atmosphere created by the staff. I will definitely visit again. Thank you very much!

I went on a trip to Kyoto and didn't know what to choose from the menu of Kyoto cuisine, so I ordered the "Recommended Rice Enjoyment Course at Sumika" (4,000 yen). 1. Appetizer Assortment: Komatsuna Ohitashi, Tofu, Namafu Dengaku, Duck Roast Namafu 3 types (Sesame, Awafu, Mugwortfu) - all of them were fragrant and had a delightful chewy texture. 2. Sashimi: Saury, Young Bluefin Tuna, Sea Bream, Firefly Squid - all were fresh and firm. 3. Side Dishes: Three varieties of simmered dishes - Fried Taro, Whole New Onion, Eggplant simmered in a rich flavor and aroma of early summer, the sweetness of the onion was wonderful. 4. Beef and Seasonal Vegetables Stone-grilled beef - the tenderness of the beef goes without saying, and the vegetables were juicy. 5. Daily Fried Dish: Fried Kawahagi and Tempura 6. Bamboo Shoot Rice, Miso Soup, Kyoto Pickles 7. Dessert: Matcha Ice Cream The taste of the food was excellent and the cost performance was good, but the delivery was slow, and the interior was noisy due to many drinking groups, which were points deducted for service and atmosphere. Also, the fact that smoking was allowed in all seats was a bit tough for a non-smoker like me.

I visited this restaurant for a final meal after enjoying the autumn leaves in Kyoto. The location is a bit hard to find, you have to go up the stairs to enter. We were seated in a spacious 2-person booth. We ordered the course menu, which included ingredients typical of Kyoto. There was a decent variety of drinks for the all-you-can-drink option, and we were able to fully enjoy it for 2 hours. The staff was responsive to our orders, and we had a great time. Thank you for the meal.

[Kyoto Special Feature] Sumika, Tomikoji @ Kyoto Price: 3000-7000 yen Taste: 4.5/5 Cost performance: 5/5 Atmosphere: There are counter seats and table seats. The interior is calm and perfect for couples or going with friends or colleagues. Features: The food is delicious overall. Among the dishes we tried, the deep-fried taro was exceptionally delicious. The vegetables are also delicious, allowing you to fully taste the natural sweetness of the vegetables. The chicken tempura is outstanding, surprisingly generous in portion and very satisfying. In addition to the food, the drinks are also delicious.

Near Kawaramachi in Kyoto, there is a cozy izakaya on Tomikoji Street! This place is popular among women as they offer a menu centered around Kyoto vegetables. The must-try dishes here are the Sumika Salad, which is a refreshing salad made with various vegetables, olive oil, and salt. It was truly delicious! Another recommendation is the assorted sashimi, especially the seared conger eel which was incredibly tasty! It pairs perfectly with plum paste. This fish is only available in the summer, so be sure to visit during this season! The eel roll was also amazing, with a generous amount of eel wrapped in fluffy egg. If you're looking to have a drink in Kyoto at night, definitely check out this place!

"Sumika Tomikoji" (Kyoto, Kawaramachi) occasionally offers Dashimaki Tamago Donburi with chicken teriyaki and three side dishes for 700 yen including tax. This restaurant also serves roast beef bowls and hamburg steak for affordable prices in Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe.

I went to Sumika Tomi-koji in Kyoto♡ The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, and the vegetables were delicious and beautifully presented~♡ The first picture is a sashimi assortment with vegetables instead of garnish, which was colorful and I ended up eating the vegetables instead of leaving them. They also had a selection of about 10 different side dishes, which was nice, and they offered unique Japanese sake and Japanese sake sangria, making it a fun place to visit~♡ I ate and drank quite a bit, but it was affordable!! I would love to go back if I visit Kyoto again~♡

We visited this restaurant for our 1 year and 4 month anniversary dinner. We sat at the counter seats where we could see the chefs busy preparing dishes. They didn't engage in conversation with us. We had the course meal, and the highlights were the three types of side dishes and the conger eel tempura. The conger eel tempura was freshly fried, hot, tender, and really delicious. The sashimi was also tasty. It's been 2 months, so I don't remember the details. The background music was a bit lively, and the food was authentic, but the atmosphere felt like a regular izakaya.

I had visited Sankou-en a few times before, but this was my first time at this restaurant. This time, I came with a colleague. We sat at a table and ordered the Kyoto Kitayama Oboro Dofu, assorted sashimi, and deep-fried taro. We started with a toast with beer and enjoyed the appetizers while waiting for our dishes. The first dish to arrive was the Kyoto Kitayama Oboro Dofu. I tried it with just salt first and couldn't help but exclaim "Delicious!" It was incredibly tasty with the sweetness and richness of the soybeans. My colleague also praised how delicious it was. The sashimi was made with fish directly delivered from Miyazu and was very fresh and delicious. It was accompanied by Kyoto vegetables from Kameoka. When dipped in plum paste, the combination of vegetable sweetness and plum acidity was very refreshing. The deep-fried taro had a thin crispy coating with a sticky sweet taro inside, which was also delicious as always. We ordered other dishes as well, and they were all delicious, making the drinks go down smoothly. Among them, the sautéed Kujo negi and seseri had an excellent combination, incredibly delicious. It was a bit disappointing that we couldn't try the fried horse mackerel, which seemed to be off the menu now. Although the prices may be slightly higher for an izakaya, considering the quality of the dishes, it felt like a reasonable price for such a great restaurant. Next time, I will try to visit the main branch and maybe conquer all the dishes at Sankou-en.

I visited this restaurant recommended by my regular hairdresser. It's a great place to enjoy the atmosphere of Kyoto, perfect for going with friends who are visiting Kyoto. The dishes use plenty of Kyoto vegetables, and the steamed and grilled dishes, as well as the appetizers, are all delicious. I forgot to take photos, but the fried chicken was also tasty. I recommend this place for those who want to enjoy an izakaya experience. The staff are friendly and I would definitely visit again. I visited around 7:00 pm on a weekday and was able to make a last-minute reservation and find seating available, so you can drop by spontaneously. Thank you for the meal.
