I went to a Chinese restaurant called Yangtze River in Mejiro. I usually get takeout lunch boxes or have lunch there, but this time I decided to dine in quickly in the evening. There are seats on the first floor, but I went up to the second floor using the stairs. It was past 7 pm on a weekday, and the restaurant was empty, giving it a private feel. It looked clean and didn't have the typical Chinese restaurant vibe, but it was a really good place, although it was a bit disappointing that it was so empty. I planned to have a Chinese rice bowl, but it wasn't on the menu! When I asked the staff, they said the five-flavor rice with sauce was similar to a Chinese rice bowl. The black vinegar sweet and sour pork that I love costs 1650 yen, and if you order white rice with it, it's perfect. Next time, I'll go for that. They even bring out cloth hand towels, which is different from typical Chinese restaurants. The five-flavor rice with sauce had a generous amount of rice and plenty of pork and chicken. The salt-based sauce was delicately seasoned, and the vegetables were cut into large pieces. The egg drop soup had a thick texture and was full of corn, making it quite enjoyable. My companion ordered the dan dan noodles, which are famous for being a favorite of the current Emperor of Japan when he was a student at Gakushuin University. I tried a bit, and it had plenty of minced meat and finely chopped pickled vegetables that added a nice flavor. It's best eaten with rice. I also mentioned the one-coin takeout bento boxes from Yangtze River that I often get during lunchtime. The bento box costs 500 yen including tax, and they have managed to keep the price the same without any increases. Many locals also buy them. When I go right before closing time for lunch, they sometimes run out of bento boxes, so they make them fresh in the kitchen. On this day, I had the pork and vegetable stir-fried rice, which was fragrant and spicy. It was quite delicious and much better than convenience store or supermarket bento boxes, so it's one of my favorites.

There is a restaurant called "Yangtze River" in Mejiro. It has been around since I was a child, so maybe about 50 years. It used to be located right by the station, but about five years ago, it moved to a location about a 6-7 minute walk towards Nerima from the station. It is still a nice and clean place. They also sell cheap bento boxes during lunchtime, I think it was around 500 yen. The restaurant's name is printed on the glasses and chopstick wrappers, giving it a sense of tradition. It had been a while since I last visited, but this time I ordered the dan dan noodles and rice. The dan dan noodles were around 1210 yen and came with a lot of soup. The rice also arrived with it. The soup had a lot of minced meat in it, and you scoop it up with a ladle with holes. The noodles were thin and the spiciness was not too strong, so even those who don't like spicy food should be okay. Eating the rice with minced meat and soup poured over it was really delicious. Both dishes were quite filling, even for a man's dinner. The prices are a bit higher than chain restaurants, but the taste is definitely authentic. The atmosphere may be a bit intimidating, but I had no problem dining alone during dinner time as it was not crowded and the ambiance was fine. There are many other delicious-looking menu items, so I would like to visit again to try more. Thank you for the meal.

I have been coming here occasionally since it was located in front of the station. This is my 15th visit. It's been a while since I last came. The set meal allows you to choose two dishes from options 1 to 4, and it comes with rice and almond jelly for 1100 yen! It was 100 yen more expensive than before. Both dishes were delicious. Thank you for the meal. I will come again.

Udon was the main dish in the official blog https://alwaysudon.com/niku-fukunaga-moriyama/ Official newsletter of the main food udon http://alwaysudon.online/mailmagazine/ Instagram https://instagram.com/alwaysudon/ It used to be in the Mizuho Bank building closer to the station. I went there once a few years ago, and it was pretty good, but a bit expensive. I thought they were demolishing the building, and after a while, I saw it here. I passed by in the afternoon and decided to stop by. The first floor has one table, a kitchen, and the cashier. I was guided to the second floor, where there were several tables, enough for about 10 people. I still feel like it's a bit pricey. A foreign-looking female staff member was busy moving around. The fried rice arrived. It looked like regular fried rice. 1350 yen for this might be a bit high around here. Or is it because it's Mejiro...? The food also had a sweet taste and felt a bit rushed. It didn't feel like a carefully prepared dish. Maybe it's because it's lunchtime? The filling of the dumplings was delicious, but they were fried, so they were a bit greasy and not that great. I thought the previous restaurant was even better, but well, maybe I won't come back next time. If you go to "Osaka Ohsho" near the station, you'll only get what you pay for, but you might have a sense of satisfaction even if you give up.

The restaurant used to be located very close to Mejiro Station, but it has recently moved to a slightly more distant location. Although the shop is new, the cups have a sense of age to them. They offer a 1000 yen lunch set where you can choose 2 out of 4 dishes. When I visited with another person, we each chose 2 dishes and shared them using small plates provided. It was enjoyable to taste a variety of flavors. The dishes were served on 4 small plates. I was surprised that the chili sauce and cream sauce dishes were on the same plate, but it turned out fine. The spicy stir-fried lotus root and pork went well with rice. The seafood and Chinese cabbage simmered in soy milk also went well with rice. There were no sand in the clams and the sauce had a consistent thickness. The dessert was a rich almond jelly. This restaurant is not your average Chinese restaurant, it's a step above that. It's delicious here. Thank you for the meal!

Although it is a bit far from Mejiro Station, "Yangtze River" is still going strong after relocating. The taste is truly that of a long-established restaurant! Every dish is delicious. I was seated on the second floor and was informed that they do not serve hot drinks like tea or hot Shaoxing wine... which seemed a bit strange since they can prepare cooked dishes. Enjoy the traditional flavors of a long-standing restaurant in this brand new establishment.

The portion size is generous. The menu states that taking out leftovers is not allowed, so I want to order carefully to avoid wasting food. It is a delicious Chinese restaurant.

I happened to pass by and entered, thinking it was a regular Chinese restaurant, but I was surprised by the level of cuisine similar to a top hotel. Not only the taste, but also the presentation was meticulous and beautiful. I wonder if the chef here has experience working in such high-end places in the past. I have revisited several times since then, and I plan to continue coming back in the future.

For 1000 yen, you get two main dishes, rice, soup, pickles, and dessert. It felt like a great deal because the portion size was generous. The staff seemed a bit inexperienced, but the owner's energy was wonderful.

I got a bento box for takeout. It was surprisingly only 500 yen, which is just one coin. You can add soup for 150 yen. There were lots of finely chopped vegetables inside. When you think of Chinese food, you might expect strong flavors, but this had a gentle taste. The main ingredient seemed to be tofu. The rice was sweet, with a perfect texture, and very delicious.
