タキトゥス
Night in Osaka. I am drinking in Shinsekai. I left the first place feeling a bit unsatisfied, so I am looking for a second place to drink. In the lively streets of Shinsekai, I found this restaurant a little down a side street. It has a flashy yellow sign typical of Shinsekai, and displays autographs of famous people. However, compared to other shops, it has a slightly calmer atmosphere, which caught my interest and led me to enter. The restaurant has a long and narrow layout, with a casual izakaya atmosphere. There are counter seats and table seats in the front, and it seems there are tatami seats in the back. The place is about 80% full, so it seems quite popular. As a solo customer, I was seated at the counter. I started with a draft beer and ordered skewers. I ordered skewers of chicken, octopus, sausage, quail eggs, and beef cutlet. The beef cutlet skewer was thick and satisfying, made with bread crumbs that were crispy and the sauce was tangy and spicy. I also ordered additional skewers of yam, pork cutlet curry, garlic, and pork belly. The yam was cut thick and had a crispy texture that surprisingly went well with the tangy sauce. The highlight was the pork cutlet curry, where pork and curry rice were wrapped and fried. It was a unique but delicious skewer. The shop had the master, the mistress, and a young female staff member. The master was quiet and focused on frying the skewers. The female staff were friendly and warm. The homely atmosphere, combined with the taste of Kansai dialect, added to the experience of enjoying skewers. Despite eating and drinking quite a bit, it didn't cost me more than 3000 yen. Considering the taste and quantity, the cost performance is quite good. I did a skewer crawl in Shinsekai, and realized once again that there are both good and not-so-good shops. Encountering a good shop like this by chance is one of the pleasures of traveling.
