I had lunch at Taishuntei, a quaint Chinese restaurant along the Jinba Kaido road in Hachioji, just past the Chuo Expressway. The restaurant is run by a husband and wife, and about 80% of the seats were filled when we arrived. There is a spacious parking lot, and the restaurant is quite popular with a steady stream of customers. I ordered the unusual cold ramen for 550 yen, which I had never tried in Hachioji before. The order arrived after a 10-minute wait. The visual presentation was of a typical soy sauce ramen, but there was no steam rising from it. The toppings included thick slices of chashu, naruto, wakame, menma, boiled bean sprouts, and a few ice cubes, making it quite satisfying. The soup was a well-chilled soy sauce ramen soup, which was quite tasty. The noodles were firm and not too oily, with a good balance. It was a delicious and unique cold ramen experience, different from the usual cold noodles. Thank you for the meal.

Umani Soba for 650 yen, Liver and Leek for 550 yen. Seriously, are you kidding me, sir? It's too cheap. This retro, quaint shop is a must-visit when heading towards Yamanashi. Although it's not very accessible from the city center, if you're heading towards Hachioji on the Chuo Expressway, be sure to stop by. The thick umani soba is excellent, and the kind wife and husband will surely serve you delicious food.

I stayed overnight at the hideout today and have work to do in Hachioji - Harley-Davidson procurement. I arrived in Hachioji much earlier than the scheduled time. I was eager to eat eel! Eel!!! But the weather, dryness, and pollen are making my nose run non-stop! I was planning to buy tissues at a pharmacy when I noticed a fragrant Chinese restaurant in town! I passed by it at first but then remembered a delicious restaurant that was recommended. What should I do? Eat eel? The recommended restaurant? The fragrant restaurant? I pondered while my nose kept running. See the continuation in the image.

The other day, I visited the renowned ramen shop, Oshuntei, located a 30-minute walk from JR Chuo Line Nishi-Hachioji Station. This shop is famous in the ramen world, thanks to its owner, Kazuhira Ueno, who never lets go of the shop's reputation. Kazuhira Ueno, a right-handed infielder from Kaizuka City, Osaka Prefecture, started playing baseball at a young age and eventually made it to the pros, getting drafted by the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. Despite not having played in Koshien, he has shown promise in the Eastern League, and recently signed with the Orix Buffaloes as a developmental player. As for the ramen itself, it was a perfect home run in terms of flavor and texture, with a generous amount of toppings that complemented the miso soup base. The stadium, located along Jinba Kaido, was bustling with fans eager to taste the essence of the local Chinese cuisine. Overall, it was a delightful experience that showcased the best of ramen craftsmanship.

A Chinese restaurant along the Jinba Kaido in Hachioji. Stepping into the shop feels like traveling back to the Showa era. I had the "Umani Soba" and dumplings. The ramen topped with a lot of ingredients in a thick sauce stayed hot until the end. The plate with the restaurant's name and a photo of the dumplings are my favorite.

This shop is more often used for delivery rather than dining in. Many regular customers visit the shop. It is very popular for delivery in the local area! Neighborhood moms often order delivery as a substitute for lunch. Even when visiting a friend's house, they order delivery from this shop. An older gentleman on a scooter is often seen delivering food. The seasoning of all the dishes is excellent. In our house, we especially love the fried rice, so we usually order a different main dish and share a side of fried rice. My favorite is the "Umani Soba," which is ramen topped with plenty of cabbage in a thick sauce. My husband prefers the yakisoba, and the kids stick to the classic ramen (Hachioji ramen). We went through a phase of loving the mapo ramen, but now we always go back to the Umani Soba. The size of the vegetables, especially the cabbage, is just right - soft but still crunchy, creating a perfect balance. The prices have been slowly increasing, but even when ordering five items, it only costs 3,672 yen. The ramen is 550 yen, and the Umani Soba is 650 yen. When we hear the sound of the scooter, we grab our wallets and say, "Here he comes, here he comes, here he comes, here he comes!" We greet the gentleman at the door and say, "Thank you as always."

In June 2019, I visited a popular old-fashioned Chinese restaurant along the Jinba Kaido in Hachioji City, called Oshinte. I ordered the delicious soba noodles (600 yen) and a half portion of rice (200 yen). By ordering the noodle and rice set, you get a 100 yen discount, making the total cost 700 yen. The delicious soba is essentially a ramen with Chinese-style sauce poured over it, so ordering rice allows you to enjoy a mini Chinese-style rice bowl as well. The sauce is simple, without shrimp or quail eggs, but when combined with the soup, it creates a deep and flavorful taste. The generous portion of both the sauce and soup provides a satisfying amount of food. The restaurant was unexpectedly busy during lunchtime, with locals and travelers along the Jinba Kaido road. It's a hidden gem in the area, with a wide variety of menu options, including unique dishes like croquette ramen. The restaurant also has a small parking lot for three cars, making it convenient for customers.

This is a traditional Chinese ramen. The dumplings are handmade with a chewy skin.
