Osaka, Namba. A back alley behind Hozenji Temple. A quaint yakitori restaurant with a Showa-era atmosphere called "Kushi no Chinmi Izumo," with an owl curtain as its sign. The chef, with a dignified silver aura, runs the restaurant alone. The chef always wears a crisp white cooking apron over a button-down shirt. His neatly trimmed hair and chef's hat exude cleanliness. Despite being a small counter-only restaurant, it is always bustling with regular customers. Everyone is a fan of the silent and charming chef. Once seated, a yakitori set is served with salt, mustard, seaweed, and sauce. The set also includes the famous lettuce coleslaw and pickled radish. The dishes are served on flat plates in the "Izumo" style. No chopsticks are provided, only toothpicks to enjoy the lettuce and radish. The refreshing mayonnaise dressing pairs well with beer while waiting for the skewers to cook. I had made a reservation at Izakaya Rokudan for the night, but I suddenly felt like seeing the owner of Izumono after a long time, so I stopped by for a pre-drink. First, I had Asahi Super Dry and cheers! (*^^)o∀*∀o(^^*)♪ I ordered scallop bacon, stamina-yaki, squid nori roll, eggplant miso, asparagus, shrimp yuba roll, and octopus rare delicacies. The food was so delicious that I ended up eating quite a lot, even though I intended it to be just a pre-drink. I almost forgot that I had a reservation at Rokudan and ordered the usual chicken breast, but then I realized my mistake (laughs). If I couldn't eat much of the dishes despite having a reservation at Rokudan, the kind landlady might just sink me into the sea of Tsugaru (;º言º)ゾッ Well, I should be able to eat a normal amount per restaurant, so it should be fine (o^^o). I felt like eating delicious yakitori from the master after a long time, so I visited Izumo♪ It was my first time this year, can you believe it? Recently, Izumo-san has been kicked out three times due to the restaurant being full when he tried to visit without a reservation (>_<) It didn't used to be like this before... It's a mix of happiness and sadness when your favorite restaurant becomes so popular that it's hard to visit easily (^_^;) However, it's not impossible to make a reservation yet, so I called ahead this time to secure a table before visiting♪ The chef seemed energetic, which was a relief (o^^o) Cheers with an Asahi Super Dry for now♪(*^^)o凵凵o(^^*)♪ This time, oysters were back on the menu, so I had to have them because they are so delicious here (๑•̀⌄ー́๑)b The items I enjoyed this time were... ○ Squid seaweed roll ○ Oysters ○ Scallop bacon ○ Fuki yose ○ Octopus chin ○ Chicken breast I only tried these because this was the first stop of the night, but I wish I could try all the menu items ♥️ The skewers here are so delicious and go well with beer, highball, or any drink (ヾ(o´∀`o)ノワァーィ♪ All thanks to the meticulous preparation done by the chef every day (^_-)-☆ I hope this fantastic restaurant continues for a long time♪ Thank you for the meal m(_ _)m

There are two entrances, one in the front and one from an alley. The shop is long and narrow with only a counter, seating about 7 people. The chef runs the shop alone. The atmosphere is calming with a Showa era vibe. There are various types of skewers, but I asked for the chef's choice. The table is set with condiments and plates, and the skewers are served on the plates as they are cooked. The chef cooks them at a pace that matches your eating speed, and each skewer is delicious. I let out a sigh of happiness. The octopus skewer was especially good. It was wrapped in foil, but when opened, it revealed a large tender octopus leg. The seasoning was great and it was delicious. My elderly mother loves octopus, but has trouble with tough textures lately, so I thought of bringing her here. The shrimp wrapped in yuba was crispy and tasty even without any sauce. This may not be the place for those who prefer trendy restaurants, but for those who appreciate the Showa era vibe, this is a highly recommended spot. The skewers are all original and unique to this shop. My work stress melted away. I will definitely be back. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

This year, on a day in May when the world was still dealing with the effects of the coronavirus, I suddenly realized that I hadn't been to Izumo even once this year. So, on a weekday evening, I decided to head there. Although I had tried to visit a few times before, it was always too crowded to get in. It's good to see the place busy, but it can be a bit frustrating too. On this day, there were no other customers, so I was able to enter easily. The owner seemed to be in good spirits, which was great to see. I started with an Asahi Super Dry beer, accompanied by the usual lettuce salad and radish pickles. The skewers I had that day included potatoes, squid wrapped in seaweed, beef loin, green pepper and meat stuffing, octopus, eggplant with miso, chicken liver, Izumo seaweed roll, stamina roll, chicken thigh, and asparagus bacon. It had been a while since I last visited, so I got carried away and enjoyed the delicious food to the fullest. I also had two more highballs before finishing. I'll definitely be back again. Due to the state of emergency and measures to prevent the spread, I hadn't been able to visit Izumo-san for a while. I was worried about the owner, wondering if he was doing well. In early July, when restrictions were slightly relaxed, I took the opportunity to visit. The owner seemed to be in good spirits, which was a relief. First, I enjoyed an Asahi Super Dry beer to start off, followed by some relaxing grilled skewers. The beef loin with sauce and okra sandwiched in between was delicious as always. The scallop and bacon skewer is a must-have pairing with beer. The squid wrapped in seaweed was seasoned perfectly. The chicken liver skewer with sauce was also tasty. The stamina roll with eel and celery had a great combination of flavors. The octopus was tender and flavorful. Currently, the restaurant is still closed, but I hope to see the owner's smiling face and enjoy delicious grilled skewers again soon. Thank you for the meal!

This day was a rare visit to Izumo-san (*ˊ˘ˋ*)♪ Despite facing shortened hours and requests for closure, as well as unwarranted blame from neighboring countries, the master firmly stood his ground and persevered. Today's first stop [Unusual skewers of grilled kushi, Izumo] Located near Round One on the way from Nihonbashi, this kushi grill restaurant has been in business for 43 years. The owner, who is 75 years old, is still full of energy. The kushi grilled skewers are truly delicious without any exaggeration. You can feel the history in each skewer dish. I wish I could become the type of person who enjoys sake at a place like this.

On Saturday, just before 8:00 pm, in Sennichimae. I came to this place that I had been wanting to visit the most, thanks to the detailed review by a knowledgeable cow. It's a small, unassuming shop with only a counter inside, and a baseball game playing on the TV in the back. I greeted the two customers already there and placed my order as follows: - Large bottle of dry beer, probably around 500 yen - Skewered green pepper stuffed with minced meat, 200 yen - Rolled sushi with nori seaweed, 200 yen - Octopus skewer, 300 yen - Shrimp and yuba (tofu skin) roll, 300 yen The owner, despite being elderly, exuded a dignified aura. His meticulous work ethic was evident from the well-maintained kitchen. We were served a plate of lettuce and pickles as a complimentary appetizer. The skewers were presented on this plate, and we used toothpicks to eat the lettuce and pickles. The condiments were placed in small gourd-shaped dishes, including salt, seaweed, soy sauce, and mustard. The owner recommended which condiment to use for each skewer. The skewer with green pepper and minced meat was meticulously crafted, with the perfect balance of freshness, spiciness, and juiciness. The rolled sushi with nori seaweed offered a grand taste of the sea, emanating from such a small skewer. The octopus skewer, wrapped in foil and grilled, was tender, rich, and flavorful. The shrimp and yuba roll featured shrimp wrapped in tofu skin and grilled to perfection. Each skewer was intricately prepared, offering unique and delightful flavors. The sign saying "Rare Skewer Delicacies" was no exaggeration. It's amazing to find such a wonderful restaurant in Osaka. I had a brief chat with the owner, who was also incredibly kind. After the first state of emergency was lifted, I headed to Minami for the first time in a while. Izumo-san was there, looking healthy as always. The restaurant had a bit of a renovation and looked clean and nice. First, Yuyu and I ordered some bottled beer to cheers. Let's start with some delicious grilled skewers: - Shrimp wrapped in tofu skin - Squid wrapped in seaweed - Octopus skewer - Chicken breast skewer - Beef loin skewer - Chicken liver skewer The owner will guide you on how to eat these skewers, providing salt, lemon, sauce, and mustard right in front of you. The lettuce and pickled radish appetizer is always addictive. This restaurant doesn't provide chopsticks, so you have to use toothpicks for everything. But if you ask, they will give you chopsticks. The owner's polite and humble service is truly commendable. I personally support this restaurant a lot, so I hope they can overcome the challenges of COVID-19 and keep going strong. In conclusion...I really enjoyed it (^^)/ The restaurant is small with a Showa era atmosphere. There were two other customers when I arrived, and the seating distance was just right, creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. I had already had a few drinks, so I ordered a sweet potato shochu highball and looked at the menu. They served a plate with salt, chili paste, seaweed, and sauce for dipping, along with lettuce salad and pickled radish. I decided to go with the chef's selection of 5 skewers, including shrimp tofu roll. They grilled dishes like scallop bacon stamina roll, yakitori, and shrimp tofu roll in a perfect way, and the chef recommended which sauce to use for each. However, I wasn't a fan of some dishes...I ordered some hot skewers and continued to enjoy the food and drinks while chatting with the chef. It's understandable why this place has been in business for so long. I felt like the chef's personality made the dishes even more delicious (^^)/ I ended my meal with "tako chin" and promised to visit again. The bill for the skewers, sake, and shochu came to 3300 yen. Thank you for the enjoyable time and delicious food (´- `*) It was worth coming here...♪♪♪

Today, I had dinner with a junior colleague from work. He took me to a restaurant called Izumo in the Sakacho area of Senbayashi. It's a small place with only a counter, but it had a great atmosphere. They don't provide chopsticks, which was interesting. Instead, they have toothpicks that you use to pick up the food. The creative skewers they served were all really well done. I had never heard of this place before, but Minami still has so much to offer. It's definitely a valuable restaurant to know about.

Now, it's finally the last day of Heisei era. For the last dinner of Heisei, I definitely want to go to the restaurant in Minami where I've been going for the past few years. Well, even someone like me is fortunate to have a few favorite places in Minami that I can call my regular spots. This time, I'm going to visit my top 4 favorite places and close the curtain on the Heisei era in my own way. First, I visited the long-established yakitori restaurant "Izumo". Since the seating is limited, I was worried if I could get in, but I managed to get a seat. I started with a bottle of Asahi Super Dry. I had beef loin, liver, octopus, chicken breast, fukiyose, stamina, and Izumo nori roll. I always eat the same things here, but I never get tired of the yakitori here. The master is almost 80 years old, so I don't know how long he can continue, but I sincerely hope that we can continue to enjoy the yakitori here in the Reiwa era for as long as possible. I also ordered a highball, grilled chicken skewers, and squid nori roll. It was my first time trying the squid nori roll, and it was hilarious to see the squid wrapped in nori instead of the other way around. The master's playful spirit is truly amazing, and it was surprisingly delicious. I was completely satisfied from the first place. I hope to continue visiting this famous restaurant in the Reiwa era too! Thank you for the meal.

On August 24, 2018, I revisited the shop "Izumo" that I fell in love with on my previous visit. The atmosphere and the perfect distance between the chef and customers make this shop truly amazing. We ordered various skewers such as fukiyose, squid seaweed roll, eggplant dengaku, tako-chin, chicken breast, grilled chicken, stamina grill, rare konjac, liver, shrimp with yuba, and beef loin. Despite eating quite a lot, the food was light and I could keep eating more. The chef always provides the appropriate sauce for each skewer, making the dining experience enjoyable. It's a great place to explore different ways of eating as a regular customer. On September 10, 2018, I visited Izumo again with a friend. We enjoyed the skewers and the lettuce appetizer, and I also had a chance to meet another friend who dropped by. We ordered various skewers like stamina grill, fukiyose, rare konjac, chicken breast, tako-chin, Izumo seaweed roll, liver, beef loin, potatoes, and eggplant dengaku. Each skewer was prepared with different seasonings based on the chef's recommendation. The potatoes wrapped in bacon were especially delicious. My friend also enjoyed the skewers she ordered. I hope this shop continues to thrive in Minami. On October 24, 2018, I visited Izumo again and tried the new additions to the menu, oyster and ginkgo nuts. Both were delicious, especially the oysters wrapped in bacon. They were perfect with salt and seaweed. I also received detailed recommendations from the chef on how to enjoy each skewer, which I noted down for future visits.

Nankai Nara Line Nipponbashi Station, Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line Nipponbashi Station, there is a really good restaurant there. You should go and check it out... I received this tip from my dear friend Mairebi-kun. One day, I felt like listening to the shamisen at dusk. It was near Rokudan, so I took my wife for a little detour. "Izumo" is a cool restaurant. It's a small place with only a counter, and if you have 6 to 7 people, it's full. The chef sets the table and asks, "What can I get for you?" We were recommended to order beer, highball, chicken breast meat, and octopus, so we did. The rest of the order was random... Shrimp wrapped in tofu skin, smelt fish, and potatoes, all priced from 150 to 200 yen each. It's cheap! While waiting for the chef to cook, we were served a starter of lettuce salad and pickled radish. It was surprisingly tasty. We finished our first round of drinks and were served another starter set... then the octopus dish arrived. It's octopus! Soft octopus with a nice broth. Highly recommended! The chicken breast meat had a good balance of spices and a nice texture. Quite big! Surprisingly, it was only 200 yen. My wife's favorite was the shrimp wrapped in tofu skin. The shrimp was firm and well-prepared. The chef, although quiet, had a stylish way of presenting the dishes. We asked for his recommendations, and he served us stuffed squid with seaweed, squid and seaweed roll, bacon-wrapped scallops, and beef loin with green onions and okra. All of them had a gentle yet strong flavor. The stuffed squid with seaweed, squid and seaweed roll were delicious. The beef loin was amazing! We also ordered a dish of mountain vegetables, which was delicious. Each skewer was carefully crafted and had a perfect balance of flavors. This restaurant was a hidden gem, and we were grateful to Mairebi-kun for the recommendation.

In the back alleys of Minami, there used to be a place called Sakamachi, right? It's a street with Marufuku and Oden's Densan. The atmosphere here is amazing! The owner is also really nice!! The food is delicious too. And when I ordered a shochu on the rocks, it came with the same amount as a water split Σ(・□・;) It's the same price, so if you order on the rocks and ask for water separately, it's less than half the price! It's a sneaky thought, but keep it a secret (laughs). But you know what! That's what captures the hearts of drinkers (⌒▽⌒) Putting more shochu in doesn't really cost that much. Advertising costs, hiring part-time workers for handing out flyers, it all adds up, you know (^^;; It's more profitable to put a little extra shochu and get repeat customers! It was a wonderful restaurant where they naturally do things like that (⌒▽⌒)
