I often buy senbei from a shop where they are freshly baked on site. They make great souvenirs and can be purchased individually for snacking on the go. I always buy the assortment of slightly broken pieces when I come across them. I like the shrimp and seaweed flavors.

As I was walking, I came across a quaint shop that caught my attention and decided to stop by. It seemed to be a senbei (rice cracker) shop, with senbei priced at around 90 yen per piece. I bought one senbei and a sweet called Hatsushimo, and the total came to 580 yen. The regular senbei was delicious, but the sweetness of Hatsushimo was incredibly tasty, unlike anything I've ever had before. The shop's atmosphere was also very nice. I later found out that the shop was established in the 2nd year of Taisho era. The characters on the shop curtain read "Yanaka Senbei-ya" in Edo-period hentaigana (as mentioned online).

I'm tired of summer vacation, lol. This is a story about eating recommended rice crackers by my cousin's dad during the three-day weekend. It was so hot during the long weekend that after visiting the grave, we had a late lunch at Costco with hot dogs and sweet drinks. Even though my dad didn't feel very hungry even at night, my daughter ate sweet potato rice and grapes non-stop. During the weekend, we visited my husband's parents, and my mother-in-law pointed out that I smelled like garlic. As a wife, I refrained from eating kimchi before inspection and chilled beer, drained tofu, and prepared for pork kimchi. It's so hot that I don't have much of an appetite, so I thought rice crackers would be fine. While my daughter was sleeping, my husband told me to eat a little bit, so I made tofu stew with zucchini, eggplant, and mushrooms, and enjoyed it with a crunch. Since my husband doesn't like spicy food, I reduced the spiciness, so I still can't understand why he eats kimchi with sweet alcohol. Eat the rice crackers! You just want to eat what you like! Because I love them! Crunchy, yes, delicious! Not with brown sugar, but with normal soy sauce rice crackers for heatstroke prevention, you need to take in salt too!

I went into the store to buy souvenirs, but I ended up buying more for myself because there were too many interesting things. I got the classic rice crackers as well as a new one I've never seen before (peanut rice crackers). Rice crackers are delicious! The peanut rice crackers had crushed nuts on them, giving them a different texture from regular rice crackers. The slight nutty aroma was a unique experience. Thank you for the meal! ☺️

I received this as a souvenir. The peanuts were moist and heavy, while the rice crackers were crispy and had a nice texture to chew. I think I prefer the peanuts? The taste was neither good nor bad. Most of them cost less than 100 yen per piece, so it's good for a little snack.

After visiting the grave, I bought 3 pieces each of crispy senbei, nori, and shrimp as souvenirs for my family. It's impressive that this long-established senbei shop has been in business for over 100 years. It may still be early for cherry blossom viewing, but with the good weather, there was a line of about 10 people. Yanaka Ginza is also bustling. I enjoyed them at 3 o'clock when I got home. Thank you for the delicious treat! ^_^

On the way to a shopping street where we could find a place to drink after getting off at Nippori Station for the first time, we happened to come across an old-fashioned senbei (rice cracker) shop. The owner was inside, in the middle of baking. Unfortunately, we couldn't try the freshly baked ones because they hadn't been dipped in soy sauce yet, but we were told that we could try them if we timed it right. We shared the classic soy sauce, nori (seaweed), and matcha (with sugar) flavors. The seaweed flavor was the most delicious!

After leaving the Ueno art museum, I walked around the Yanaka area for the first time. There were many temples and various charming shops along the street, which made me feel like I was on a sightseeing trip. There were several shops that caught my eye, but I was particularly intrigued by the "Yanaka Senbei" with the place name attached. Established in the second year of Taisho, this long-established shop has a history of over 100 years. You can buy senbei individually for a reasonable price ranging from 90 to 130 yen. I bought the Kinmaru (soy sauce flavor), Zaramame, nori, and shrimp flavors. The shrimp senbei is shaped like a turtle (or so it seems) and is quite cute. I liked the perfect crispy texture, not too hard.

I decided to visit Yanaka Ginza and arrived there. I strolled around and first stopped here. I chose the zaramen. It's less than 100 yen each, which is great. It's been a while since I had zaramen rice crackers, and they were delicious with a nice mix of sweet and salty flavors. I should have bought some as souvenirs.

Last time, I had to give up because of the long line and lack of time. Today, I stopped by after "Fujiya Tofu" since there was no line. The shop is located on the left side at the top of the slope towards Yanaka Ginza shopping street from Nippori Station. They have a wide variety of rice crackers, making it hard to choose. You can also choose the hardness, so it's better to pay attention when buying the same type of rice crackers. I purchased a lot more than what is shown in the photos, but I forgot to take pictures (sorry. I will add them next time I buy). The atmosphere of the shop is nice, and everything was delicious, but I especially recommend the classic "Nori", "Kata-yaki", "Peanut", and "Matcha" flavors! I hope I can buy them next time when there's no long line.

I stopped by a famous Western confectionery shop on my way home from the neighborhood. The showcase of the Western confectionery shop is colorful and beautiful, but the storefront of the rice cracker shop is cozy and heartwarming. Japanese sweets are good, but rice crackers are good too. Kasuga is nice, but Yanaka is also nice. The culture of affordable and delicious Japanese sweets and rice crackers is wonderful.

First Visit 202202 (No.3401) On the day, I was picking up some material from Nippori area, but I couldn't just buy sweet things, so I decided to change things up and visited this place as my 4th stop. This shop was established in 1913, so it has a long history. I checked for some information and found some photos that really captured the atmosphere of old Showa era downtown shops. However, the shop has been renovated and now has a modern atmosphere. There were still some old-fashioned spherical rice cracker containers on display, but the products inside were properly packed to prevent moisture. I bought the following item that caught my eye: Seaweed-wrapped rice cracker for 400 yen. It's a common product where seaweed is wrapped around soy sauce-coated rice crackers. The soy sauce flavor is strong, but the rice cracker itself has a very light and delicious texture. Thank you for the meal.

After passing through Yanaka Ginza and heading towards Nippori Station, I encountered this shop. There were a few customers inside, so I decided to stop by. They sell senbei by the piece. I bought the sesame flavor for 80 yen including tax. The soy sauce flavor was a bit strong, but the sesame flavor was prominent, and the texture was good. It was delicious. The size was just right.

This is a rice cracker shop located a 4-minute walk from Nippori Station. I visited during a stroll in Yanaka. The staff were friendly and I tried several popular rice crackers, all of which were delicious. I would love to visit again when I'm in the area.

After taking a break in Nezu, I realized I didn't walk enough steps, so I headed back to Nishi-Nippori Station and started walking again (but I arrived in no time at all...sweat). As I walked up the hill, I found this shop! I don't usually buy rice crackers as souvenirs, but I wanted to bring the atmosphere of Yanaka, so I headed to the shop. There were various types of rice crackers, and I was indecisive, but I ended up getting 6 pieces. The total was 550 yen, 80 yen each for 5 pieces - matcha, zarame, sugar, chili, and I forgot the name of the last one, and 150 yen for 1 piece of peanut. I brought them home as a small souvenir, and I was relieved that they were well-received. It seems that people are happier with a little something to eat rather than buying too much (laughs). The sales of the rice crackers went in this order: matcha, sugar, peanut, and chili was left last. I decided to save the chili for when I don't have any snacks to go with my drinks. My wife requested, "I want to enjoy walking around Yanaka," and I agreed, saying, "Let's take a leisurely stroll through the town next time!" However, I mentioned that I didn't really enjoy Yanaka on my own this time, but whether she understood that or not remains a mystery.

I simply like this type of rice cracker. There were various options available, but the most delicious one was the sesame flavor. I tend to stick to buying the same kind, but it would be nice if they offered a larger size. I will definitely buy it again.

Established in October 2020, the long-standing rice cracker shop "Yanaka Senbei Shinsendo" is located just a 3-minute walk from Nippori Station, making it a perfect stop for a foodie stroll on the way to Yanaka Ginza. The nostalgic round glass containers are filled with a variety of rice crackers such as sesame, shrimp, and sugar-coated ones. The rice crackers here have a mild salt and soy sauce flavor, which is quite pleasant. They are softer than typical rice crackers, making them easy to eat without straining your jaw. Yanaka is known for its many rice cracker shops, which is explained by the fact that the town has many temples where rice crackers are often served during memorial services. With this level of firmness, these rice crackers may also be easy for the elderly to enjoy. Thank you for the meal.

During the day, I saw a popular senbei shop with people in front of it. I recognized someone inside, Rin-chan!! She was smiling so brightly and even took a photo with me. I bought senbei with peanuts and sugar sprinkled on top. It was so delicious! I should have bought more. I usually eat things like soft salads, so it's nice to have something like this once in a while. It might be cheaper to buy a whole bag at the supermarket, but these are really tasty. Thank you for the meal.

The Yanaka Yanesen area's shopping street is a hot topic, but in reality, it gives off a compact impression. There are various things to see, but the matcha at Midori is beautiful and their matcha senbei is delicious. The senbei is hard and not easily breakable, with a decent level of sweetness. The slight matcha flavor is also tasty. Thank you for the meal. Thank you for visiting and reading. After getting off at Nippori Station and heading towards Yanaka Ginza, I came across a long-established senbei (rice cracker) shop. The display of senbei in glass shelves and jars was so appealing that I couldn't resist buying some (lol). I purchased a mix of 10 pieces for 80 yen each (including tax): karamaru (spicy), sugar, sesame, zarame (sugar-coated), matcha, chili pepper, and shrimp. I tried the sesame and chili pepper flavors. The chili pepper was crispy with a nice kick from the chili paste, very tasty! The sesame was a classic choice, not as crispy as the chili pepper though. I also shared the karamaru, zarame, and matcha with my family. But I noticed that they weren't as crispy as the chili pepper flavor. I wonder if it's due to different ingredients or maybe because they are not individually wrapped and could absorb moisture if not popular enough. Nonetheless, it was great to be able to enjoy a variety of flavors easily. Thank you for the meal!
