This is the Koenji branch of this shop, which was featured for its great cost performance. I visited after seeing that, and ordered the cheapest dish, Mapo Tofu for ¥680. I also enjoyed the buffet. The glass noodle salad was delicious with a strong flavor of sansho pepper. The Mapo Tofu had a large portion and I couldn't finish it all. By the way, the rice served with it was not great quality but edible, probably freshly cooked in a pot, not brown but the lowest grade of rice.

This time, instead of the typical Chinese-style menu, I ordered a dish called lamb salt ramen. I arrived before 2 pm on a Sunday and the place was packed! I had to wait for a table at the back that was being used as storage. There were both solo diners and groups of people. Once again, the food was bland! The side dishes at the buffet had stronger flavors, so I ended up getting three refills and ate them with the main dish. The lamb meat didn't have that distinct lamb flavor and was quite tender. I personally prefer a stronger lamb taste. The noodles were thick and seemed handmade. I want to try their Paomo dish next time.

I visited the restaurant for lunch again, just 3 days after my last visit. Last time, they were running low on rice so I opted for noodles. I had the tantanmen and half-fried rice for ¥780. This restaurant seems to have a high demand for delivery, as even with few customers, the service can be slow. When I arrived, there were about 3 delivery drivers waiting to pick up orders. I helped myself to the free toppings while waiting. The food was the same as last time. The tantanmen lacked flavor, despite having plenty of ground sesame seeds and chili oil. The soup seemed to lack depth or broth. The fried rice, on the other hand, had a good flavor. It was well-seasoned, although it did become a bit hard and difficult to eat as it cooled down. Overall, the level of Chinese food in Higashi-Koenji seems to be similar to this experience. (Similar to the Taiwanese Chinese food nearby as well)

These days, I have been conquering the restaurants on the street leading to Oozeki. It's more of a passive reason, as it's too hot and I prefer to stay close to home. It's been over 2 years since I last visited this place. It seems like the exterior has changed? It looks cleaner and more inviting now. I was planning to go to a ramen shop, but even though it said on Tabelog that it opens at 11:00, when I arrived at 11:30, it was still closed for preparation. So, I decided to try the fried chicken set instead. It costs 680 yen and comes with all-you-can-eat self-service. I like this kind of deal. The fried chicken had a good portion size, but it wasn't that tasty. Also, the rice was a bit brownish in color, which I haven't seen in a while (laughs). For the all-you-can-eat, they had pig trotters, yakisoba, tofu salad, and soup. The pig trotters were interesting, so I got a refill. They were seasoned with five-spice powder and very tender. Overall, the food was lightly seasoned, which is rare for eating out. I couldn't finish the rice, but I might come back again, maybe to try the noodles next time?!

First time visiting this place. My usual Chinese restaurant closed down, so I've been wandering for a few months. How is this place? As soon as you walk in, there's a strong smell! It's like a night market with a unique aroma. The tables and menus feel sticky. Once you start drinking, you forget about it. Dumplings: Decent, but the skin is thick. Xiaolongbao: Delicious and juicy. Mapo Tofu: It has a Sichuan style with a strong taste of Sichuan peppercorns. Eight Treasures Vegetables: Different from what I expected, with broccoli in it. No quail eggs, but the taste is good! Fried Rice: Has a bit of shrimp in it, tasty. Shaoxing Wine: On this day, it was half price, around 980 yen for a bottle. There are many items on the menu, and customers come in quickly. Most of them eat their set meals quickly and leave, so the restaurant soon becomes empty.

I got off at Higashi-Koenji to try some Chinese food in a different town. Usually, I get off here to have a draft beer at Taiyo Shokudo, but looking back, there are many other dining options here. This time, I passed by Taiyo Shokudo and walked a few minutes to the restaurant for this visit, Chengdu Koenji Branch. The interior of the restaurant is a bit old-fashioned with dim lighting from naked light bulbs, but sometimes hidden gems can be found in such places, so let's approach with an adventurous spirit. I discovered something interesting on the menu. I ordered a bottle of beer (usually 480 yen), always delicious. Then I ordered the evening drink set with beef tendon noodles for 1000 yen. When I ordered, they asked, "It's spicy, is that okay?" but in such situations, you can only accept the challenge. The set came with various side dishes, so I decided to enjoy my beer while waiting. Some kind of skin, I'm not sure of the exact name, but it had a sesame oil flavor and made a good appetizer. It had a crunchy texture and went well with the beer. The pickled vegetables and tomato marinade were also delicious. Now, for the main dish of beef tendon noodles, the soup was moderately spicy and the medium-thick straight noodles absorbed the flavor well. The beef tendon was chewy and delicious. Unexpectedly, they also served shumai and steamed dumplings, which was a pleasant surprise. Initially, I thought 1000 yen (at this point, it was unclear if tax was included) was a bit expensive, but considering the quality and quantity of the food, I was satisfied. The dishes with a traditional atmosphere turned out to be a great choice. Ah, it was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

My favorite restaurant is the one that serves large dumplings, but this time I ordered a lunch set that came with xiaolongbao. It cost 650 yen and included ankake ramen, 3 xiaolongbao, zasai, and almond jelly. There are about 8 different lunch sets to choose from, ranging in price from 600 to 650 yen. I thought it was a good deal to have xiaolongbao included in the lunch set. Unfortunately, there was no soup inside the xiaolongbao. Overall, the seasoning was very delicious, so I would like to go back again!

Nikoniko Road is a Chinese restaurant located in a shopping street, and their set meals are incredibly cheap. They offer 8 different set meals, with prices starting from 600 yen. Most of the sets are around 600 yen. I was surprised by the low prices for such substantial set meals. I had the seafood yakisoba and half fried rice set, which came with pickled vegetables, soup, shumai, and almond jelly, all for around 600 yen. I paid all together so I forgot the exact amount, but it was definitely not 700 yen. For a price in the 600 yen range, the portion size was impressive. The flavor was light and refreshing, with a taste that I personally enjoy in Chinese cuisine. I wish the noodles in the yakisoba were more grilled to give them a bit more texture. The flavor was really great, with shrimp, scallops, wood ear mushrooms, Chinese cabbage, and water spinach. With a bit more effort, it could be even more delicious. Unfortunately, the fried rice was a bit mushy and could have been better. The overall temperature of the dishes was a bit cold, which was a bit of a downside. However, the cost performance is not bad at all. There was a review on Tabelog mentioning issues with the service, but during our visit, the service was normal. The staff were not very friendly, but it was not unpleasant either. The kitchen staff also greeted us cheerfully. It might just be a matter of timing or not expecting too much in terms of service. If you are in the Higashi-Koenji area for work during lunchtime, I recommend visiting Nikoniko Road. You can enjoy affordable, decent Chinese cuisine there. They also offer Sichuan cuisine for lunch, so I suggest giving it a try.

In conclusion, this restaurant can be described in one word as "poor service but delicious food and reasonable prices, so I will visit again!" Popetchan seems to go there more often... I always order the appetizer with wood ear mushrooms and daikon radish, and leave the rest to Popetchan. The dumplings are chewy and the broth is delicious. They go well with beer. This time, Popetchan ordered spicy chicken wings, and I tried one, which also goes well with beer. There seems to be a set meal with dumplings, and some people only order that. The downside is that the staff is extremely unfriendly. It's a bit harsh. Aren't you in the customer service business? (Sorry if this sounds discriminatory. But even at Hinchinrou, the service is bad... I prefer the loud and cheerful Italian service like Salvatore's.) The Chinese restaurant next to Nico Nico Road has good service even though it's run by Chinese people. But well, if you can overlook it, it's fine. I might go back for the dumplings.

Every time I pass by, I have a vivid red image in my mind. And it's usually crowded. But one day, as I passed by, I was surprised to see that it was empty. It was my first visit to this bright red restaurant. I tried their Sichuan-style spicy tantan noodles. As expected, the soup was bright red, with minced meat and bok choy on top. I took a few bites and found that the spiciness was manageable. However, the soup lacked depth and flavor. The noodles were just average. It might be fun to gather a group of spicy food lovers for a party at this restaurant, as the menu was filled with bright red photos of Sichuan dishes. If there's such an event, please invite me along with my bandana-wearing friend! Haha.

Located less than a minute from Higashi-Koenji Station, this restaurant offers a wide variety of lunch options, including mapo tofu. The spicy food trend is still going strong for me, so let's give it a try. The waitress, who seemed to be only operating at about 20% of her maximum motivation, was often absent-minded. Perhaps she was daydreaming about what to eat for dinner tonight, like maybe the mixed vegetable dish. Observing the waitress, the mapo tofu arrived relatively quickly. It looked average, tasted average, and was moderately spicy. It wasn't bad, but there was nothing particularly noteworthy about it. Mapo tofu is a dish with depth.

Located to the left of Koenji North Exit, along a street lined with izakayas and more. I often visit with my colleagues from work. They are open until around 4 am, which is very convenient for us. They offer all-you-can-drink options, and the food is reasonably tasty. We ate and drank to our hearts' content, and the bill came out to around 10,000 yen for the four of us on this particular day. Sometimes there is a language barrier, but other than that, it's all good. With this taste at this price, it's a great deal. I heard they also have a lunch buffet. Definitely worth a visit.

The prices are too cheap. When I went there the other day, I had a Chamisul and oolong set, with the Chamisul being 1000 yen. Too cheap. But the oolong tea was 800 yen. A bit disappointing. The food is nothing special, not particularly delicious. When you're hungry, the prices are reasonable and the portions are generous, so even men should be satisfied. Recommended dishes are the oil-drizzled chicken and scrambled eggs with tomatoes. Other than that, it's just like any other Chinese restaurant.
