Koji-koji
On a regular night, three of us went to a yakiniku restaurant in Monzen-Nakacho called "Gyu Wakka Tomioka-ten" in search of delicious yakiniku. The main store is known as one of the top 100 yakiniku restaurants, but we couldn't get a reservation, so we visited the Tomioka branch. The restaurant is located on the second floor of a narrow alley just 2-3 minutes from the station. There are only 7 table seats in the cozy interior, and when we arrived at 18:15, there was only one group of customers, but by before 19:00, it was almost full! It's quite popular. We were seated at a table with a gas roaster in the back.
First, we ordered bottled beer! It was interesting that Asahi and Kirin were priced 50 yen apart. Today, we went for the 50 yen cheaper Asahi (700 yen for a medium bottle) for a toast! Now, onto the meat! We wanted to focus on the meat today. The side dishes were kept to a minimum, and looking at the menu, the prices were quite high. The red meat dishes ranged from 980 to 2480 yen per item, but the cuts were all high-quality. The horumon (offal) was also priced at 880 yen. There were a variety of grilled items available, such as pork, chicken, seafood, vegetables, as well as a wide selection of side dishes, salads, kimchi, soups, noodles, and rice dishes.
We started with salt seasoning and planned to switch to sauce later. We ordered the "Selection of 4 Premium Cuts" for 5480 yen. The marbling was beautiful and the portion was quite generous! It seemed like it would be enough for three people. The fat was sweet and melted smoothly. The Zabuton (Chuck Flap): Amazing! The fat was sweet and melted smoothly. The Hichu (Top Blade): It's a cut from the top of the thigh with a beautiful marbling. The texture was meaty with moderate fat, making it easy to eat. It had a good balance of lean and fatty meat, and I liked it. The Sagari (Skirt): It's the part of the diaphragm near the lumbar spine. It had a meaty texture and the fat was moderate, making it light and easy to eat. The Lamp: It's a cut from the rump to the thigh. The umami of the lean meat was intense. I liked this one too! I was starting to feel overwhelmed by the fat, so we ordered the "Niku Jyubon" (Meat Juicy Bonbon) for a palate cleanser. It was cut into 2 cm cubes with a moderate marbling, lightly grilled, and served with grated daikon and ponzu sauce or salt and was juicy when bitten into. It was amazing.
We continued with the meat! We ordered the "Tsukekomi Kalbi" (Dipping Kalbi) for 1280 yen, which was great value for money! The marbling was beautiful! The slightly thick slices were amazing for the price. It was coated in sauce and quickly seared before eating. This one goes well with rice! We also ordered the "Kiriochi" (Cut-off) for 980 yen because we still wanted to eat rice. It was the cheapest meat on the menu, but it was amazing with beautiful marbling. Delicious! Oh no, this is so good! The fact that this was under 1000 yen is amazing.
I was the only one drinking alcohol, but the total bill for the three of us was 15000 yen, and we even got change back. Amazing value for money! This was fantastic, and I would like to visit the main store next time! Thank you for the meal!
