A shop of the best Gâteau au Chocolat in Japan, 'Ken's Café Tokyo', which won the title on December 24, 2022 at Tokyo Tower, has opened. I used to go to the Shinjuku main store, Minami Aoyama, Jiyugaoka, etc., but now that it has opened at Tokyo Tower close to my home, it's even more convenient to visit. I purchased the special Gâteau au Chocolat and the seasonal limited edition creamy cheese terrine. I also tried the Ken's Choco Drink (rich hot chocolate drink) with a cocoa content of 65%, which was rich in flavor and absolutely delicious! The special Gâteau au Chocolat is always delicious no matter how many times I have it. It doesn't use flour, so it's rich but not heavy on the palate. It was my first time trying the cheese terrine, and it had a great quality cheese flavor and aroma, and was very delicious. It was so soft that it was difficult to cut because it melted like butter. I enjoyed it with black pepper and domestic lemon to change the taste, and it was like a high-class French restaurant's dessert with wonderful flavors. I received a special mug cup as a commemorative gift for the grand opening. I will definitely visit frequently.

I searched for something nearby during my appointment wait and found an interesting cafe. I love chocolate, so I was drawn to the hot chocolate. It was sweet and just the right amount of warm. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The sales staff at this store, who are part-time workers, were at a loss for words when asked about the brand "Domori" and the grade "Criollo." They couldn't explain what kind of products they were using to make and sell. I purchased a "Double Chocolate" cake (2600 yen tax included) other than the popular "Gateau Chocolat." According to the description in the store, this cake is made with domestic eggs, capturing the richness of the ingredients in a Baumkuchen. The cocoa dough is blended with bitter chocolate for a subtle sweetness. The moist and smooth texture of the cake with a crispy chocolate coating creates a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness. However, the cocoa dough is slightly dry and crumbly, and the chocolate coating is lacking in flavor. Considering the price of 2600 yen, it is too expensive. I had high expectations for the taste, knowing the quality of Gateau Chocolat, but the Double Chocolate cake is completely different and seems to be made by a subcontractor, so please adjust your expectations accordingly.

This time I visited Ken's Cafe, which has a booth at Tokyo Tower! Ken's Cafe is known for its Gateau Chocolat! Although it used to be mainly located near Shinjuku Gyoen, they have been actively expanding their stores recently. I tried the "Melting Cheese Terrine" (3,200 yen) for the first time! It was a baked rare cheesecake that was soft and crumbly when cut, so be careful. The balance between the richness of the cheese and the acidity of the lemon was good, making it rich yet refreshing. It was delicious and I finished it all. It's nice that you can buy Ken's Cafe's Gateau Chocolat without having to go all the way to Shinjuku Gyoen.

This store changes tenants multiple times a year. This time, Ken's Cafe offers coffee and cocoa at prices that seem more geared towards foreigners rather than Japanese customers. It's relatively expensive. We usually stick to Lawson or the food court, but for tourists with an inflated mindset, Ken's Cafe, with its killer content like chocolates, shouldn't be a problem. Good luck, we're rooting for you, even though we won't be going there, haha.

Takeout only, no dining in. There are tables inside Tokyo Tower where you can sit and rest, so I bought a drink here with the intention of relaxing there. After eating a crepe, I thought about getting coffee, but since this shop is all about chocolate, I decided to go with hot chocolate. The staff said it was made with melted chocolate, not cocoa, but I couldn't tell the difference between rich cocoa and hot chocolate. It was delicious.
