I visited this place on a holiday before 9 pm, and there were still a lot of customers. The last order is at 10 pm, so we were quickly seated in the tatami room and ordered from the menu. First, we had an appetizer and a small glass of sake (400 yen). I started with a small glass of draft beer, cheers! The first drink must be beer, right? The cold beer smoothly going down my throat is the best. The appetizer for the day was kimchi, not too spicy and a bit sweet. Next, we had a refreshing tomato salad (450 yen) with diced tomatoes and shredded onions in sesame dressing. It had a crisp texture and a strong acidity that paired well with the sesame dressing. Then, we tried the simmered tripe (430 yen), a light salt-based seasoning with tender vegetables and tripe soaked in a flavorful broth. Simple yet gentle, full of umami taste! Next was the grilled squid (650 yen), incredibly fresh and generously buttered. The squid was cooked on a hot plate, giving it a fragrant aroma. It was bite-sized and perfect as a snack. We also tried some specialties (350 yen each): chorizo with a perfect spiciness and crunch, spring rolls with a smooth and gentle filling, chicken skin skewers with a crispy texture and a hint of yuzu pepper, fried eggplant stuffed with tender chicken, and sakura shrimp tempura. Lastly, we had the sakura shrimp okonomiyaki to finish off. Although we didn't taste much of the sakura shrimp flavor, the rich sauce and perfectly cooked dough paired excellently with alcohol. We also enjoyed a bottle of Takara Gokujyo sake (2,500 yen). Teppanyaki, the best! Thank you for the meal!

Located just a 30-second walk from Shimura-sanchome Station, this place was bustling with families and couples on this day. With tables, tatami seating, and counter seats available, it has a welcoming atmosphere for solo diners as well!
◆Beer & Otoshi
Starting off with a beer cheers! The first beer is always the best. The otoshi, homemade pickled vegetables, is simple and flavorful. And the fact that otoshi is complimentary is surprising!
Now, let's order some dishes!
◆Simmered Motsu (380 yen)
Motsu (offal) along with konnyaku and tofu make up this simple dish. The gentle miso flavor seeps through, giving it a homey and nostalgic taste.
◆Tuna with Garlic Soy Sauce Dressing (700 yen)
This is a must-try dish! Tuna with garlic soy sauce dressing... a menu item that you don't see often. Generously marinated in garlic and soy sauce, topped with crispy seaweed, it has a rich flavor that goes well with alcohol.
◆Grilled Lotus Root Sandwich (280 yen)
For 280 yen, this is a steal! The small portion size is perfect for drinking only. The crispy coating, crunchy lotus root, and juicy chicken create a delightful umami flavor that spreads in your mouth with each bite.
◆Deep-Fried Yagen Nankotsu (chicken cartilage)
Yagen nankotsu is rare, and the texture is unique - crunchy yet tender. The generous black pepper seasoning adds a nice kick.
◆Homemade Pickled Vegetables (small) (280 yen)
And to finish off, we couldn't resist the addictive homemade pickled vegetables as otoshi! The light seasoning is irresistible.
We didn't try the teppanyaki this time since we sat at the counter, but we definitely want to try okonomiyaki or monjayaki next time we visit. Thank you for the delicious meal!

On Sunday at 9:00 PM near Shimura Sanchome Station, there were no izakayas open. If going alone to Hananomai, it seems better to go to Barmyan. At Jiro's, I had 2 highballs and ramen, and then sat at the counter at "Komaya" where there was an empty seat. It has been about 4 and a half years since the last review. The counter seats were full, with families and cute children. It's a okonomiyaki and monjayaki restaurant, but I ordered edamame, herb sausage, and boiled spinach from the appetizer menu. I had another highball, and they added lemon slices which were thick and gave a nice tangy flavor to the drink. The restaurant had an air conditioner mist (spray) which the children seemed to enjoy. Even though it was cold today, I imagine it gets very hot in the summer with the teppan grill. The total bill was ¥2,041.

I don't eat okonomiyaki, but I want to eat monjayaki. No problem at all. There were counter seats available, but they don't have a hot plate there, so you can't eat monjayaki. There were empty table seats. I don't remember what I drank at first, but I think it was draft beer. I forgot to take a picture of the drink. I took a picture of the appetizer. The appetizer was edamame. We ordered cheese and tomato teppanyaki, mixed monjayaki with kimchi topping. My friend K has a good sense of what to put in the monjayaki. I think I've eaten monjayaki at this restaurant about 5 times, but this time it tasted completely different from before. I was hesitant about adding kimchi as a topping, but it turned out to be a great combination, enhancing the flavor of the ingredients. I've been to this restaurant about 10 times. "Obako" is closely related to this restaurant. It's a famous place near Shimmura-sanchome Station, and I've been wanting to try it for about 19 years since I returned to the area. I went there with K. The total bill was 4,000 yen. Thank you for the meal.

In a corner where restaurants line up on the street in front of the station, there is an okonomiyaki restaurant. I entered around 8:30 pm on Saturday. There were three groups of customers already there, chatting lightly while enjoying their drinks. The interior had table seats and tatami seats, typical of an okonomiyaki restaurant, which was not bad. I ordered the mixed "Koma-ya Ten" for 880 yen and the "Cheese Ten" for 830 yen. It seems like you have to cook it yourself, but they might do it for you if you ask. They brought mayonnaise when I requested it, showing a somewhat hands-off approach. I preferred the simple Cheese Ten over the mixed one because the flavor was more straightforward and I just love the crispy cheese with a burnt edge. Since flour dishes don't fill me up, I also ordered the "Special Yakisoba" for 980 yen and the "Kimchi Fried Rice" for 700 yen. I was surprised to see fried rice on the menu, but when the dish arrived, I couldn't figure out what was so special about it. The yakisoba was okay, but the fried rice made only with rice and eggs was a bit too amateurish for my taste. Despite trying to season it with soy sauce from the table, it was bland and disappointing. The "Thick-cut Bacon Steak" for 580 yen was larger than expected, but it didn't leave me feeling satisfied. While it's fun to cook your own food, having the seasoning left up to the customer may not be the best approach. I realized the scary part of okonomiyaki restaurants where you have to cut, plate, and wash everything yourself for that price. It made me long for a caring proprietress at an okonomiyaki restaurant. They had a variety of simmered dishes and side dishes, making it seem like a better choice for a drinking spot.

On Friday night around 8 o'clock, I happened to be crowded and ended up waiting to eat monjayaki for some reason. The monjayaki here had pickled ginger mixed in for some reason, which unfortunately distorted the flavor and made it impossible to adjust the taste freely as monjayaki should be. Despite this, it seemed like they were okay with it and not open to complaints, so I discreetly removed it without causing a fuss. As for the okonomiyaki, the ratio of ingredients and batter was off to the point where it lacked the usual comment-worthy taste. It was a surprising cultural shock when I tried to remove the stretchy part at the end, but I ended up receiving 15 likes from Tsukishima.
