In the midst of wandering the scorching hot main island, this place is truly an oasis. It seems to be a valuable shop for the locals, as everyone was taking turns visiting. For tourists, it's a great place to buy local products and to cool off with water or ice in the heat. By the way, this Maeda-san's lemon jam is made with the rare and tangy lemon from the main island. It's highly recommended to try it on toast for a refreshing taste during the summer. It may not be easy to come across, but if you have the chance, be sure to try it.

During my stay on Hahajima Island, the shop I used the most was Maeda Shoten. Like other stores, they were also closing down after the New Year, so I stocked up on snacks and cup noodles. However, I still used it occasionally after the closure. They have a vending machine for alcohol here. It really saved me. Even though there was a refrigerator at the inn, it felt luxurious to take a walk after dinner, gaze at the starry sky, and then order from the vending machine on the way back. As for the selection, it's pretty similar to the agricultural cooperative nearby. But there are some items that can only be bought here, like Maeda Shoten's Island Lemon Jam. It's an original jam made with just sugar and island lemons, with a unique flavor resembling yuzu and a hint of pepper. It would make a good souvenir. Actually, I think this might be the only unique local souvenir food on Hahajima Island. The Passion Fruit Liqueur can also be bought at the Ogasawara Maru ship's store, with a similar price. It has an alcohol content of 12%. It's more enjoyable with a mixer, so I suggest getting Passion Fruit Chuhai instead, which is tastier from the start. I saw Passion Fruit Chuhai at the Ogasawara Maru store, as well as on Chichijima and Hahajima, and it was priced at 160 yen everywhere. Of course, being on an island doesn't make it cheaper. Surprisingly, the prices are the same on the island and on the ship, even though the ship is closer to the mainland. Lastly, when it comes to snacks on Hahajima Island, Yamazaki is the dominant brand. (2019.1.3)

It is like a supermarket on the main island! On arrival days, it is so crowded with customers that it becomes a battle! It's a little cheaper (within the main island). They have seasonings, groceries, daily necessities, and plenty of frozen foods. On arrival days, they have vegetables available!
