Visited with colleagues at night. It was my first time visiting since the relocation. The main seating is at the counter, with only one table in a private room. This place is like a high-class izakaya with a traditional Japanese atmosphere, commonly found in Fukuoka. The sashimi and the bonito tataki seared in front of us were particularly impressive. The silver rice we had at the end allowed us to taste the deliciousness of the rice directly. Every dish was of high quality and delicious. I personally enjoyed the lively atmosphere and the friendly service of the staff. This is a popular place, so reservations are a must. I would love to visit again when I go to Fukuoka. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

A delicious izakaya with a variety of dishes. I made a reservation two days in advance and secured a seat for a little over two hours, so I went there! I was there from 5:00 to around 7:10. It seemed like there were many regular customers. Everything was delicious! The draft beer was Premium Malts. They had several different bottled beers from various breweries. I definitely want to go back to this place. Although I didn't mention the prices, I think it's good value for money! We spent around 19,000 yen for two people and got change. The steamed clay pot dish was delicious. It was made with matsutake mushrooms and conger eel. Whenever conger eel is in season, I always order it! I also thought it was the season for Shine Muscat grapes! The draft beer was Premium Malts. It was really delicious and I want to go back again! The restroom was clean, but it had a unique smell of incense that I personally didn't like. Smells can be a matter of preference, though!

Today is my partner's birthday, so we came to a special restaurant for dinner. We chose "藁焼 みかん" based on a recommendation from a lovely couple we met at "Casual French Bar 7FUKU." Well, I can definitely recommend this place too! It's delicious here! Cheers with a highball to celebrate my partner's birthday. Let's keep their age a secret! Cheers! We started with a peach appetizer, which was refreshing and perfect for the summer. The grilled tofu was like mochi dessert. The sashimi platter was amazing, especially the grilled bonito prepared right in front of us. The crab dish was overflowing with delicious crab meat. My partner couldn't get enough of it! The spring rolls this month featured wild boar meat, which was chewy and flavorful. The simmered octopus had a unique texture and taste. The grilled duck was rich and tasty, complemented by crunchy yam. The surprise sparkling wine for my partner's birthday was a nice touch. The clam dish was delicious thanks to the flavorful broth. We ended the meal with a satisfying cup of tea. Overall, "藁焼 みかん" was a fantastic dining experience with great service and thoughtful gestures. My partner was all smiles, so I'm glad we chose this restaurant. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

My friend who lives in Fukuoka recommended this restaurant. When we entered, the atmosphere was nostalgic and the standout impression was the incredibly friendly and fantastic service from the staff! There are counter seats and table seats that resemble kotatsu. Since there were too many options on the menu, we decided to go with the chef's choice course! It was around 7000 yen, but the cost performance was great. Cold soup -> delicious Miso-dressed tofu -> has a mochi-like texture with a sweet miso flavor that is incredibly delicious Sashimi trio -> surprisingly, the tuna and seaweed go really well together Bonito -> they grill it with straw right there Spring rolls -> juicy and packed with filling! Tamagoyaki -> delicious Crab cream croquette (additional order) -> delicious Mozuku seaweed -> delicious Eggplant and fish oil-dressed chicken -> this was incredibly delicious! Miso-grilled chicken -> the miso seasoning makes it delicious no matter how you eat it Clay pot rice -> you can eat the first bowl as is, and for the second bowl, you can have Keema curry or Tamago kake gohan. For those with a full stomach, the lighter option of Tamago kake gohan is recommended. Dessert -> red bean-filled rice cake Overall, the course was very satisfying, and everything was delicious! Taste, cost, service, staff, all were excellent. It was a wonderful restaurant! I will definitely come back ^_^

Straw-grilled Mandarin in Watanabe Street, Fukuoka - Bonito Tataki 【Price】6,640 yen per person 【Visit Time】19:40 on weekdays 【Waiting Time】0 minutes with same-day phone reservation It is recommended to save this review for future reference before visiting the store. 【Menu Received】 - Corn Rubbed Flowing (Appetizer) - Grilled Bean Curd - Assorted Sashimi (Chef's Choice) - Bonito Tataki - Water Eggplant - Taku-chan Cod Roe - Shochu Highball (Mandarin) Hello, if you're looking for a place for a date or entertaining in Fukuoka, this is the place to be! This is Gourmet Mania! I called in advance to check the reservation availability and timed my visit accordingly on the second day of my Fukuoka trip. The exterior exudes a high level of sophistication, and the interior, with live cooking right in front of you, is reminiscent of Tokyo's Hiroki Club or Igor Cossy, creating an irresistible dining experience. Despite being on a budget, I asked the staff for recommendations and ordered what they suggested. Now, let's dig in! The Corn Rubbed Flowing was a delightful appetizer, with a cold corn soup containing corn kernels that disappeared in an instant. The Grilled Bean Curd was a real hit, with the hot tofu on a hot plate topped with sesame sauce creating a mouthwatering experience. The Assorted Sashimi was beautifully presented, with each piece meticulously arranged, and the flavors of the fish were exceptional. The Bonito Tataki, grilled with straw in the restaurant, was delicious, especially when eaten with salt and mustard. The Water Eggplant, enjoyed with lemon and salt, was a refreshing seasonal delicacy that left me feeling content. The Taku-chan Cod Roe was incredibly tasty, with a yuzu flavor that was simply irresistible. And the Shochu Highball with Mandarin was not only cute but also a delightful drink to accompany the meal. At the end, the staff even asked if I was in the food and beverage industry, which made me feel really special. The prices of the dishes were not listed, so I was a bit anxious about the bill, but it turned out to be reasonable. I would love to visit their affiliated restaurant, Akasaka Komikan, which is a bit more casual than this one, on my next trip to Fukuoka. I have started to post more detailed photos and text on my blog, so please check it out! The link is in my Instagram profile. ---------------------- ✔️Date ✔️Friends/Colleagues ✔️Want to be surrounded by happiness 【Restaurant Name】Straw-grilled Mandarin 【Instagram】@wara_yaki_mikan 【Price】6,640 yen per person 【Business Hours】17:00-24:00 【Location】Fukuoka, Fukuoka Prefecture

Located in a quiet area of Yakuin, the shop Hatsu Mikan is a place where you can enjoy a course meal that allows you to try a little bit of everything. The conversation flowed easily upon entering, and the dishes were so delicious that I forgot to take photos. The course is 7000 yen for an omakase style, and every dish was not only tasty but also exceeded expectations. The staff were attentive and all the dishes were wonderful, making the experience worth more than the price. I got so excited that I ended up ordering more dishes, and my stomach felt like it was going to burst. However, even in that state, the final dish of rice cooked in a pot was delicious. Even the dessert monaka was tasty. The atmosphere and the staff were both lovely. I will definitely be visiting again. Since there are only a few seats, I wonder if it's possible to make a reservation? (laughs)

The assorted sashimi of conger eel was very impressive. It had a firm texture and was deboned well, making it easy to eat without worrying about bones. The grilled duck was visually appealing and had a nice aroma, with the meat being crispy and delicious. Although not shown in the photos, there was also bonito tataki in the sashimi assortment. The bonito tataki was grilled with straw, allowing us to enjoy the freshness of the fish along with the aroma of the straw. Overall, I think the other dishes were also good.

In the past, there were delicious restaurants with a focus on traditional Japanese cuisine rather than izakayas. Nowadays, they may be classified as kaiseki or high-end Japanese cuisine. These adult-oriented restaurants have evolved to feature counter seating and straw grilling, with highly skilled staff who pay close attention to customers. The overall quality of the restaurant is high, attracting customers from all over the country. The taste is without a doubt exceptional.

I suddenly had to have a meal with someone, and when I called just before 5 p.m. on the day, I was lucky to secure 2 seats. However, the restaurant was crowded so they told me we could only stay until 7:20 p.m. Probably because they had plans from 7:30 p.m. The person I was meeting for the first time, so we ordered the 7000 yen course. The photo shows the dishes included in the course (the names may not be accurate): - Cold corn soup - Grilled tofu - Sashimi assortment - Bonito straw-grilled - Spring rolls - Rice with octopus in okra sauce - White fish fry with oil-drizzled chicken - Duck roast (with tofu and green onions) - Clay pot rice, miso soup, pickles - Keema curry as the second serving of rice - Red bean and cream sandwich There were nearly 10 dishes for 7000 yen, which I think is a good deal considering the inconvenience of the location. The standout dishes were the grilled tofu and bonito straw-grilled, which were really delicious. The oil-drizzled chicken was not bad, but the balance of flavors was off due to the already spicy spring rolls. The Keema curry was nothing special. I think it's better to stick to the regular rice. I added some extra dishes: - Young corn - Mackerel simmered in rice bran - Homemade squid shumai - Mozuku seaweed vinegar The additional dishes were mediocre, except for the mozuku seaweed vinegar which was delicious. I had sake from Manzen, Sato, and Mogura. The restaurant was popular, with almost full capacity from 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. The service was good, and the atmosphere was lively. The staff even performed with the clay pot, and handed out mikan candy as parting gifts. I didn't find it too noisy, and could focus on the food. The restaurant has only one private room, but the counter seating can accommodate groups up to 6 or 7 people. However, it can be a bit awkward for smaller groups or those seated at the far end of the counter. The total cost exceeded 10,000 yen per person with the course and drinks, but it was worth it. The menu heavily relies on classic dishes like grilled tofu, so I feel like it could get repetitive if you visit multiple times. Overall, it's a great place to dine, but it's best to try different dishes to avoid getting bored.

I finally visited this restaurant that was recommended by an acquaintance after struggling to get a reservation. It seems like you can't get in without a reservation because it's so popular. The hair crab, tomato, leaf wasabi, assorted sashimi with special seaweed soy sauce, straw-grilled bonito, rock oysters with original spicy tomato sauce, hair crab cream croquette, steamed clam custard, seasonal gratin, everything was beyond perfect and amazing. I should have come earlier haha. The food makes me want to go again tomorrow and the day after. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I visited the main store of Komikan, Wara-Yakimikan. The interior of the restaurant is centered around counter seats, similar to Komikan. We started with a sesame tofu appetizer, which is becoming almost like a complimentary dish. The sashimi assortment was delicious, although I found it slightly disappointing that whether you order a course or a single dish, you get the same sashimi assortment. The straw-grilled bonito was thick and satisfying. The grilled spring bamboo shoots and pickled mackerel were also delicious! The seasonal dobin-mushi was similar to clam soup, and while it was good, I prefer the usual dobin-mushi, so I might wait until autumn or winter to have it again. The meal ended with mackerel sushi, showcasing the thickness and freshness of mackerel unique to Fukuoka. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal!!!

I've always wanted to visit "Warayaki Mikan" restaurant. Reservations can be made one month in advance, and I finally got a reservation. There is a counter and a small tatami room at the back, and we were seated in the tatami room. It seems like the tatami room is better for groups of four or more, but there is only one, so it's best to make a reservation early for larger groups. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We chose the course that recommended dishes with mikan (mandarin orange). It included dishes like sesame tofu, warayaki, and clay pot rice, all to be eaten with mikan. Dessert and Japanese tea were also included. Since there were many ingredients typical of Fukuoka, it's recommended for travelers as well. The rice in the clay pot was said to be made by the chef and was very delicious. There were three rice options available, including tamago kake gohan (rice with raw egg) and keema curry. I chose tamago kake gohan, but I'm curious about the keema curry. I also found out that at the affiliated restaurant Saba Taro in Akasaka, you can have clay pot rice for breakfast, so I made a reservation right away. I'm looking forward to it. All the restaurants seem to be very popular. Thank you for the wonderful meal! ♡

"Wara-Yaki Mikan" is a very popular izakaya in Fukuoka City. In November 2021, the restaurant relocated to a new location near Canal City in the Haruyoshi area, but the location is not significantly different from before. The welcoming sight of a cute mandarin orange logo and a signboard in hiragana greets you at the entrance. The seating mainly consists of a counter with one private room at the back, making it a cozy spot for small groups. Since it was my first visit after the relocation, I decided to order the recommended dishes marked on the menu. Based on other reviews, it seems that the omakase course is structured around these recommended dishes, so adding to the course might have been a good idea. The meal started with a refreshing dish of grated new onion as an appetizer, followed by grilled wara tofu on a ceramic plate. The unique texture and flavor of the tofu, along with the miso sauce, made it a standout dish. The sashimi platter featured local Kyushu ingredients, including uni, and each item was delicious, with the flounder being a personal favorite. The bonito straw-grilled dish, a specialty of the restaurant, was tender and flavorful, perfectly complemented by salt. The hot pot with bamboo shoots and wild boar meat from Itoshima was rich in flavor, and the soup was delicious. The spring roll filled with soft-shelled turtle was a delightful surprise, with a perfect contrast of textures. The small shrimp salted dish served with sake was a great pairing. The wagyu beef loin nikujaga was a well-prepared dish with a flavorful sauce and tender ingredients. The dashi cresson at the end was a comforting and tasty soup with a crispy fried accent. I ended the meal with a small portion of keema curry, which was not too spicy and had a nice balance of flavors. The cozy and lively atmosphere of the restaurant, along with the delicious food, makes it a place worth visiting, despite being slightly away from the subway stations. A restaurant you'll want to come back to!"

I had always wanted to visit this restaurant, so I made a reservation and went with a colleague from Yokohama. We arrived at 6pm as a party of two and were seated at the counter. The staff's service was excellent and very polite. We started with a toast with bottled Heartland beer. For our second drink, we had a fresh orange sour made by squeezing a whole orange. It was delicious. We decided to go with the chef's special course for 6000 yen. The course included dishes such as grated new onion with grilled sesame tofu, assorted sashimi (tuna, flounder, squid, horse mackerel), straw-grilled bonito, turtle soup, spring rolls, firefly squid, asari clams, rapeseed blossoms, udo with sesame dressing, simmered wild boar meat and bamboo shoot dumplings, grilled duck, and a clay pot rice (with pickles for the first serving and egg over rice for the second). We also added a crab cream croquette and ended up spending around 9000 yen per person with drinks. Every dish was delicious. The hot dishes were served piping hot, the nori seaweed condiment on the sashimi was flavorful, and the aroma of the straw-grilled bonito paired perfectly with the spicy mustard and salt. The additional crab cream croquette was crispy on the outside and filled with rich crab flavor. The egg over rice in the clay pot was luxurious with just the egg yolk and freshly shaved bonito flakes. There are many more dishes on the menu that I would like to try, so I will definitely be coming back. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Thank you for viewing. For the dinner on the second day of the Fukuoka food tour, we visited "Warayaki Mikan". In short, the restaurant has a lot of attention to detail and the atmosphere is excellent. You can watch the chefs cook right in front of you, creating a great sense of presence. We ordered the "Chef's Course" for 6,000 yen per person. First, we had a starter of sashimi with fresh tuna, squid, etc., served with ponzu sauce and what seemed to be orange peel. Next, we enjoyed the "Spring Rolls with Softshell Turtle" seasoned with yuzu pepper. The Gutsugutsu, a local specialty, was delicious, made with bamboo shoots and wild boar meat in a savory sauce. The main dish was the "Grilled Duck with Miso", which was a perfect combination of flavors. We also ordered the "Homemade Crab Cream Croquette" as an additional item, which was incredibly flavorful and delicious. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience. We will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.

It's hard to say if this place is really an izakaya, but the prices are a bit higher than your typical izakaya. Personally, I see it more as a traditional Japanese restaurant. We started with a cocktail called "Mikan" with sake in it, which was sweet and easy to drink. The menu included dishes like grilled sesame tofu, sashimi, night bonito, turtle soup spring rolls, firefly squid, clam and udo salad, and more. The highlight was the steamed pork and bamboo shoot dumplings. We finished with a delicious clay pot rice made with the chef's family-grown rice. The service was excellent and we left very satisfied. Fukuoka has some great restaurants. Thank you for reading until the end.

A friend recommended a straw-grilled crab restaurant in Fukuoka. It is advised to make a reservation in advance. I made a reservation for 5 pm and the place was already full. I had checked the menu beforehand, but the staff recommended some dishes. First, we were served green onions and hot soup, which were delicious. I noticed a red clay pot next to our table. The hair crab and grilled tofu dish was served in it, and it was hot and tasty. The orange sake was a must-try. We also ordered a sashimi platter, which was famous for being straw-grilled, and the bonito tataki was delicious. The rib roast was also excellent, tender and flavorful. The Hakata-style simmered codfish was light and tasty. We were served homemade mentaiko and pickles as a side dish. The freshly cooked rice in the red clay pot was served with katsuobushi and raw egg, a perfect combination. We also had seconds of the keema curry, which was amazing. For dessert, we had zenzai. Overall, we were very satisfied, enjoyed plenty of drinks, and felt happy.

It's been two months since my visit, so I won't comment on individual dishes. The overall rating may seem a bit harsh from a drinker's perspective, but if you focus on the food, a rating of 4.0 should be easily achievable. It's a popular restaurant, so I don't have much to say about it now... I didn't know the restaurant had moved on the day of my visit, but luckily it was still in the same area (laughs). The biggest appeal of this restaurant is its wide variety of menu options. Many Japanese restaurants in Fukuoka tend to stick to the usual dishes, but it's nice to see some unique and interesting choices that drinkers would appreciate. The high rating for food and taste takes this into consideration. However, when it comes to the sake selection, although there are many options, it's not that impressive, and the shochu selection is limited. Due to the location, they have to maintain high prices, but I understand that customers may hesitate to order a 1-gō (180ml) of sake that costs over 1000 yen... I wish they would either offer more options that are over 1000 yen or serve more high-end sake by the glass. In other aspects, it's above average. Considering the somewhat remote location of Haruyoshi, it's difficult to evaluate the cost performance. It's a restaurant that's hard to make reservations at, so I wouldn't go out of my way to visit on a day when they're open... But there aren't many places that cater to the desire for something a bit different to eat...
