DAD, a European beer cafe located about a 3-minute walk from JR Kitasenju Station West Exit, is a Belgian beer specialty shop. It is situated in what is known as the "drinking alley." To find it, you need to enter the alley between McDonald's and Tenya at the West Exit, pass by Ten Seven Honten, Nagami Sushi in Senju, and the Stew Shop, and you will find it across from Kitchen Marble Blue. If you take the No. 1 exit towards Chiyoda Line/Yoyogi Uehara at Senju Police Station, it is right there, making it a fun adventure to explore the maze-like Kitasenju Station dungeon. When I visited around 8 p.m. on a weekday, there was a sign in front of the shop that read "This is a Belgian beer specialty shop. Please be aware that we do not serve wine, cocktails, or whiskey. - Shop Owner." It felt like something out of a light novel, similar to Haruhi Suzumiya's self-introduction when she entered high school. "I have no interest in ordinary humans. If there are any aliens, time travelers, beings from other worlds, or espers among you, come see me. That is all." However, upon closer inspection, there was a slight sense of awkwardness... "Be aware." Perhaps the traditional "御" character was mistakenly written as "攵." What a shame. Inside the shop, it was not crowded. I sat at the counter and looked at the menu, which listed Primus for 1,100 yen and Vedett for 1,150 yen. Considering the cost price is around 700 yen, I think the pricing is fair. Snacks ranged from 430 yen to 900 yen. - Primus 1,100 yen: A refined taste with a slightly subdued bitterness and a hint of sweetness, offering a well-balanced flavor. It provides a refreshing sensation that soothes the throat and comes in a Primus-exclusive glass with a good amount of beer. - Mixed Nuts 430 yen: A light snack with a choice of nuts that pairs well with the saltiness and beer. The total bill came to slightly over 1,500 yen, and it was a reasonable price for enjoying satisfying beer. I look forward to visiting again in the future.

On March 21, 2020 (Saturday) a little after 10:30 pm, I visited a specialty Belgian beer shop in Kita-Senju after having a drink at another place. They had a wide variety of beers to choose from, making it hard to decide. I chose the Westmalle Triple, a Trappist beer brewed at the Westmalle Abbey, with a high alcohol content of 9.5%. It had a deep and strong flavor. My companion chose the Delirium Tremens, also with a high alcohol content of 8.5%, offering a balanced taste of bitterness and drinkability. We also ordered some beef jerky as a snack, which was tough but flavorful, making it a perfect accompaniment to the beer. Thank you for the meal.

Beer and fish & chips - a classic combination that never fails. When they go well together, it's absolutely delicious.

I never expected to find a Belgian beer bar in this area. When I visited, I found a relaxed atmosphere typical of Kitasenju. The selection of Belgian beers is limited, but it's interesting that they have some products from Eurasia Trading. Personally, I would like to see more variety, such as Brussels beers. However, the fact that this place exists itself is valuable. The ventilation may not be perfect as the influence of smoking is strong, which is a bit disappointing. It might be necessary to be prepared for this. Surprisingly, there don't seem to be many mature customers yet, so it's important for the customer base to grow and develop.

I visited around 8:00 pm during Golden Week. It was very quiet, probably because it was a holiday, and the bar had a nice atmosphere. They had a wide variety of Belgian beers, including some that are not commonly found in other places. I tried Barbar beer after a long time. The food was light, but the pizza I ordered was surprisingly filling. It was enough for two people as a snack. When paying the bill, I received a voucher for half-price on a Belgian beer for my next visit. I also found out that on Mondays, the Hoegaarden draft beer is only 600 yen, so I definitely want to go back again.
