A quick business trip to Furano. Arrived in Asahikawa at night and headed to a Genghis Khan (Mongolian BBQ) restaurant that I had my eye on, but there was a long line outside despite it being a rainy weekday night. Unfortunately, I had to give up. The next day at noon, the local staff kindly took me to this restaurant. Despite the heavy rain, the view from the hilltop was not great, but I could imagine the atmosphere, so I was satisfied. The main goal was to have Genghis Khan, and I got to do just that. I arrived in the morning, but I was about the 4th in line, so I waited on the terrace. After about 10 minutes, I was seated and placed my order:
- Suffolk Genghis Khan (approx. 140g) ¥1,100
- Milk Lamb Genghis Khan (approx. 140g) ¥1,000
- White Lamb Genghis Khan (approx. 140g) ¥900
- Grilled vegetable set ¥400
- Rice (medium) ¥200
- Non-alcoholic beer ¥400

Suffolk sheep are a breed known for their black faces, and as lamb meat, they are under a year old and considered a premium type of sheep meat. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful, with no hint of gaminess. It was a high-protein, low-carb lamb meat that left me impressed. Milk lamb, at 3 months old, has no fat and a light, tender texture that is likely enjoyed by everyone. White lamb offers the original Genghis Khan meat texture, but with some fat. The meat was tender, but the sauce lacked a punch, which was disappointing. It would have been even better with added condiments like garlic. The grilled vegetables had some flaws like unevenly cut onions, but it didn't bother me much as we were having a great time grilling on the terrace. Despite the self-grilling style, we finished in about 30 minutes.
I wished I could have this kind of Genghis Khan in Kanto as well, but I appreciated the experience here. The restaurant is open from 4/29 to 10/02, and I felt grateful for the opportunity to enjoy such a meal in this snowy region.
