When I went to Asahikawa, I had to get my hands on some Etude Clam Cake. It's my absolute favorite. It's dense and heavy, packed with all sorts of goodies. I bought a bunch and stored them in the freezer. Their roll cakes are also delicious. The big fruit roll cake is thin but affordable, perfect for home sweets. I didn't buy any this time, but it's really good.

Popular Western confectionery shop in Asahimachi, Asahikawa City. Fifteen years ago in 2006, their "Hiyoko Ohirune Pudding" was selected as the number one in the "Pudding Hall of Fame," leading to the shop's popularity. While their pudding is indeed delicious, this time I decided to purchase a cake. They have a Sunday-exclusive Maritozzo. I chose the "Maritozzo" (333 yen, excluding tax) - a fluffy souffle cake with strawberries. The strawberries on the surface fell off when I tried to take a picture (laughs). But there were two sliced strawberries neatly placed inside. The whipped cream was moderately sweet. I also purchased two other items. The "Nama Chocolate" (335 yen) was delicious! It had a bitter and rich flavor. The chocolate-flavored sponge was fluffy. Unlike other chocolate cakes, this one had strawberries and oranges on top. The "Apple Pie" (274 yen) was like a cake version of an apple pie. It was filled with plenty of cinnamon-flavored apples. It had a good aroma from rum and brandy, providing a satisfying eating experience. Recently, there are many cakes priced over 400 yen, but this shop offers reasonably priced and diverse options, explaining its popularity!

I visited a restaurant in Hokkaido for a magazine interview, and although I don't usually go to such places personally, I ended up enjoying the food. Etude Confectionery Store, the main store, is famous for its "Ohirune Pudding," which won first place in the Pudding Hall of Fame in 2006. I bought the normal Ohirune Pudding and also tried the two limited edition flavors available only on weekends. The pudding was smooth and not too sweet, with a rich milk and egg flavor. I also purchased the "Suehiro Fromage," a cheese dessert that is only available at the Suehiro store. It has a gentle texture and a subtle cheese flavor. Overall, the desserts were delicious and worth trying if you're in Asahikawa.

The appearance of the cream puffs made them look delicious! The crispy baked choux pastry, not too sweet cream, and rich custard cream filled cream puffs were full of volume. They have a strong presence in the showcase. Etude's cream puffs are different in all three stores, so it is recommended to try them all!

The final day of sightseeing in Asahikawa. It is common to buy local sweets as souvenirs, but I was not aware of the existence of this store until I visited Takasago Sake Brewery. At Takasago Sake Brewery, they were selling a "local sake jelly" which is a collaboration product with the well-known confectionery store "Etude" among Asahikawa locals. Intrigued by its status as a familiar store to the locals, I arrived at the store. I was a bit early as it was still before opening time. While waiting in the snow-covered parking lot, a woman parked next to me and as we made eye contact, she nodded, indicating that she was an employee of this store. The variety of products in the store was rich, making it hard to choose, but there were also many classic items that were easy to pick up. I purchased a lot of different types of sweets. "Northern Chocola" is a sponge cake with a smooth chocolate cream with a cocoa flavor. "Moelleux" is wrapped in a transparent film, and the film itself is sticky with oil. The orange flavor is sweet and vibrant, while the chestnut flavor was hard to grasp. "Northern Blessings" is a dacquoise with a hint of almond and chocolate fragrance, with an elegant taste. "Chocolate Dimple" is a fragrant baked confection, but surprisingly, it has red bean paste at the bottom. "Farm Cheese" is a light and refreshing soft cheese tart. There were some products that didn't quite hit the mark, but overall, it was a safe bet for a Hokkaido confectionery store. As for the "local sake jelly", it did have the flavor of sake, but as someone who enjoys sake, I found it quite delicious. It seemed quite strong in alcohol to my companion who doesn't drink sake. I deeply thanked my friend who gave it to me as a souvenir.

In October 2020, on the 3rd day of the Hokkaido series (from Obihiro to Asahikawa), before heading towards Sapporo, we made a little detour to a sweets shop in Asahikawa that caught our attention. We were able to stop by early in the morning because they were already open. The main attraction was this: - White Birch Cream Puff (140 yen) This seems to be their specialty. It looks different from a typical cream puff. At first glance, it almost looked like an eclair. Although we didn't eat it until we returned to Tokyo, we enjoyed it with coffee. I apologize to the person who made it, but the taste is what matters. It was undeniably delicious. The custard cream was tasty, not too rich, with a gentle sweetness. And all this for 140 yen. Excellent value for money, right? It was packed with cream and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was really delicious.

I decided to try the White Birch Cream Puff for 130 yen (excluding tax). The texture was light and crispy, with a chocolate and white chocolate coating, and the custard cream had a delicious eggy flavor. It was worth the price and I would buy it again as a small treat or gift. I also bought a Strawberry Milk Crepe for 360 yen (excluding tax). It was simple and cute, with a good balance of ingredients. The crepe, whipped cream, and strawberry sauce were all well-made. The smooth texture and gentle flavor made it a satisfying treat, especially considering the price. Overall, the store had a nice atmosphere and the staff provided good service. However, I believe that in addition to the quality of the products, customers also buy "dreams" and "fun" when they visit a cake shop. While the decorations were appealing, I felt that the store could improve on creating a more engaging and lively experience for customers. There are other cake shops where you can find a similar quality of products but with a more cheerful and interactive atmosphere, albeit at a slightly higher price. After all, a smile doesn't cost a thing, right? (laughs)

I visited on a regular day. This long-established Western confectionery shop was founded in 1985. They are famous for their cakes, baked goods, and especially their pudding. There is a parking lot in front of the shop. I came to look for souvenirs on my business trip. This time, I tried the "Ohirune Pudding" for 297 yen. It came in a cute container and is made with eggs from Tokachi, resulting in a creamy and smooth pudding. Even the children enjoyed it. Thank you for the meal.

"Étude Patisserie" is a pastry shop with a Western confectionery theme, which is surprisingly rare. I am currently traveling alone in Asahikawa, following a list of places to visit. Although I don't have much time today, I wonder why I haven't visited "Étude Patisserie" as it has been on my list for a while. The shop seems to specialize in cakes, with a sign that shows a bit of rust, giving it a historical feel. The interior is charming and seems to cater to women. I, on the other hand, do not fit in at all. The shop assistant, a brisk young lady, is very pleasant. I decide to stick to my plan of trying the pudding, resisting the temptation of the donuts displayed at the counter. I order three different types of pudding. The first one my wife tried was a small pumpkin pudding that surprised her. She found it delicious, so I reluctantly gave it a try. It was unlike any pudding I had tasted before, with a unique texture that was not completely smooth. You could feel some fibers, but it wasn't overpowering, and the pumpkin flavor was subtle. It was a tasty treat that even I enjoyed. It's no wonder it was specifically mentioned on my list."

In 2020, everyone in Asahikawa. chappytsum is an intelligent and handsome food blogger with an elegant title, visiting "Etude Patisserie Asahimachi (Main Store)". The name of the store was copied as it is from the Tabelog website, but it looks a bit strange. I will visit the store feeling like John Lennon. Hey, Etude♪ just kidding!! (laughs) Everyone in Asahikawa. chappytsum is an intelligent and handsome food blogger who can say such elegant little things. On the way back from a bento, to heal the tiredness of moving, I bought something sweet. The "Naptime Pudding" costs 320 yen (tax included). It seems to be the number one popular item at the store. One bite. Oh!? This pudding is very rich. Yet, it has a smooth texture. It is delicious. Among all the puddings I have eaten in Asahikawa, this is number one. Well, I have only eaten this pudding so far (laughs). Anyway, I highly recommend it!!

Today's work is just returning to Sapporo... It's a day off, just a travel day. So I decided to stop by a popular bakery and cake shop on the way! That's why I went to Etude. When you search for "cakes in Asahikawa city" on Tabelog, it comes up as the top result (as of November 2019). I bought a sweet potato cake and an Asahikawa souffle, had them packed with ice packs, and took them back to Sapporo. It might be too risky in the summer, but it's okay in the winter. The sweet potato cake was quite dense and sticky, with a firm custard at the bottom. It's a pretty sweet cake. The Asahikawa souffle had a fluffy texture with a light cream cheese. It's just the right amount of sweetness and I finished it in no time. My wife said, "We didn't need the sweet potato cake. You should have just bought a lot of Asahikawa souffles." Well, that's true! Thank you for the delicious treat. I'll make sure to only buy Asahikawa souffles for souvenirs next time! (laughs)

At the Kintetsu Department Store Wing Hall on the 9th floor of Abeno Harukas, a limited-time event is being held for 6 days only until Tuesday, September 24th. It features a selection of products typically found in department stores, creating a whole convenience store within the venue. Initially, one might think an actual convenience store is setting up, but they are actually selling products commonly seen in convenience stores. With over 100 types of cider, 50 types of pudding, 50 types of retort curry, daily changing ramen, station bento, ekiben, bread, sweets, snacks, ice cream, and more, there is a wide variety to choose from. Among them, I chose the Asahikawa specialty "Ohirune Pudding" for ¥420! Although it is a bit pricey, the perfect balance of the smooth texture of the pudding and the moderate sweetness of the caramel is exceptional. It is truly delicious.

Echude Western Confectionery Store, a long-established confectionery shop founded in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido in October 1984. The shop's famous signature dessert is the "Ohirune Pudding". This pudding won first place in the popularity vote at the "Pudding Hall of Fame 2006" held at the Tokyo Sweets Republic in Ikebukuro, the largest dessert theme park in Japan, and at the Kobe Sweets Harbor in Kobe. This event selects the best pudding in Japan from about 1000 types, selected by Team Nanja (Namco) buyers, through a popular vote by dessert fans. Although I had never seen it, this pudding is also famous for appearing in the anime "Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru". I was intrigued by this popular pudding shop because I love pudding so much, without knowing about these achievements at the time of my visit. The shop has a main store in Asahimachi, as well as branch stores in Tokiko and Suehiro, for a total of three stores. This time, I visited the main store. The nearest station is Higashibun Station, which is about a 30-minute walk away. It is about a 15-minute drive from Asahikawa Station. There is a parking lot in front of the store. I visited the store around 5:30 pm on a Saturday. There was only one customer ahead of me, and even at this time, there were quite a variety and quantity of products available. The product lineup is extensive and can be viewed on the website. Recommended products include the Ohirune Pudding, Tamago Roll, Asahikawa Souffle, and Kanjuku Chocolate. This time, I purchased the Ohirune Pudding, the popular Asahikawa Souffle, and a cheese tart called "Angel's Smile". Prices are all inclusive of tax. [Ohirune Pudding] 310 yen A pudding made with Hokkaido milk and eggs, maximizing the goodness of the ingredients. It has a smooth and creamy texture, with a perfect balance of eggs and milk creating a rich and creamy taste. The bitterness of the caramel is mild, and it is quite sweet. Personally, I prefer caramel with a bit more bitterness, but I was very satisfied with the deliciousness of the pudding itself! [Asahikawa Souffle] 140 yen A confection made by sandwiching cheese cream with souffle dough. The fluffy and soft souffle is very mellow, and the cheese cream is slightly acidic and refreshing. The good melt-in-your-mouth texture is impressive, and it was surprisingly light and delicious. Among the items I bought this time, the pudding was by far my favorite and very delicious! This product can apparently be purchased online as well, so I will buy it again if I feel like eating it. This is my first visit to "Etude Patisserie Asahimachi Store". I purchased the popular "Afternoon Nap Pudding (strawberry) for 310 yen", "Angel Pudding for 194 yen", and "Chocolat Banane for 500 yen". The "Afternoon Nap Pudding" is delicious with a rich and smooth texture made from Hokkaido milk and eggs. The name is great too. The "Angel Pudding" has a creamy and smooth custard with a perfect balance of slightly bitter caramel on top. It's my favorite. The "Chocolat Banane" is a whole banana coated in chocolate, providing a satisfying and delicious treat. The price of 500 yen is worth it. On my way out, I bought the "Soft Serve Ice Cream for 324 yen". It has a rich flavor but leaves a refreshing aftertaste, making it delicious.

I had white birch cream puffs and pudding. The white birch cream puff was very easy to eat and reasonably priced at 130 yen! The pudding, on the other hand, was quite expensive as it came in a jar. Some people might prefer store-bought pudding over this one. Even though the ingredients used may be different, when considering the price, it cannot compete with store-bought pudding.
