This was my first time at a non-conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Hokkaido! I felt that the customer base was mostly foreigners as we were the only Japanese customers there. We made a reservation for lunch and ordered the "Autumn" set. Sitting at the counter, it was a luxurious experience to have delicious sushi made right in front of us at our own pace. The miso soup came with the Autumn set, and they even gave us a complimentary tamagoyaki! Every sushi was delicious and impressive, but my favorite was the botan shrimp! The texture was firm and the sweetness spread in my mouth as I chewed, making me wish it would stay there forever!

It is a delicious sushi restaurant in Otaru. It seemed to have many local regular customers. It was written on the door that only reservations were accepted for today, so I recommend making a reservation. Each of our family members ordered a sushi assortment with a few additional items. They mentioned that the market was closed that day, but the sushi was very delicious and beautifully presented. My family ordered herring sushi, which we had never come across before, but they said it was very delicious. I would like to go back to try their winter sushi.

It was a small restaurant with 5 counter seats and 2 tables. When I entered, there was only one person at the counter, and I was also alone. I was seated at the counter. The sushi was carefully made and served at a good pace. I ordered the Otaru course with 9 pieces of sushi for 4500 yen. It included uni appetizer, white asparagus tofu, flounder, fatty tuna, scallop, red jacket fish, spot prawn, abalone, snow crab, and uni battleship sushi. I also had grilled spot prawn and miso soup. The chef kindly helped me peel the shrimp. Very kind!

I was looking for a restaurant where I could eat sushi at a table instead of at the counter, and a friend recommended this place. The restaurant has a calm atmosphere with 2 tables and around 5-6 counter seats. I ordered the Shun (11-piece course) for 4,000 yen. Every piece of sushi was delicious, especially the anago (conger eel) which was soft and tasty. The restaurant seemed to be very popular as there were many reservations and walk-in customers.

The sushi at the Hokkaido Produce Materials Center was delicious. The restaurant is small and has a warm atmosphere where you can see the owner's face. I had a set of 12 pieces of sushi with miso soup for 4,000 yen including tax. The sushi was served on two plates, with ikura, uni, and gunkan for two people. I was very satisfied with my meal, and one piece was served as a complimentary dish. The seafood bowl also looked delicious. Otaru has many famous sushi restaurants, so I'm sure they are all delicious. Shun is definitely one of the top restaurants. Thank you for the meal!

Otaru city sushi restaurant. I made a last-minute reservation as I was traveling on a tight schedule, but luckily there was one seat available and I was able to enjoy delicious sushi. Everything was delicious, but the grilled conger eel and shrimp were exceptional. I would love to visit this restaurant again.

The shop located on Nisshin-dori, a short walk from Otaru Station, catches your eye with its curtain! I ordered an assortment of 11 pieces of nigiri sushi (seasonal). Each piece of sushi and gunkan was carefully crafted and looked glossy! Every type of fish had a beautiful color and a firm texture, making me think that this town is truly close to the sea. I also ordered squid somen and tsubu sashimi. The squid somen is mixed with a sauce made of sea urchin and egg, and that sauce was incredibly delicious. They explained that you can even drink the sauce on its own at the end, and it was true...!! There are counter seats available, making it easy for solo diners to come in. The counter is lined with various types of fish, which adds to the excitement. There is also a cute message written by local elementary school students at the entrance of the shop, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for locals. I didn't make a reservation this time, but for those planning to visit during lunchtime from a distance, it might be a good idea to make a reservation. I would love to visit this shop again if I have the chance to go to Otaru in the future.

This is the second post of "Itsu no Yane-n" series. This time, I traveled to Otaru, Hokkaido in March. Of course, I went there for the sushi restaurants. And I hit the jackpot with this one! My friend has a good nose for finding delicious restaurants, so we randomly decided to visit a sushi restaurant on the way to Sushi Street in Otaru. Luckily, there was a vacant table. When I asked my friend what made this place good, she said the appearance of the restaurant was nice and local people seemed to be regular customers. Certainly, a sushi restaurant with local regulars in a street full of sushi restaurants is a sure bet. The sea urchin was fresh and sweet, the botan shrimp was moist and sweet, and they even served difficult-to-handle fish roe. The sashimi platter included herring and its fresh roe. I love such restaurants. Every piece of sushi was perfect. Finally, I had another sea urchin sushi. Sea urchin never disappoints in terms of taste. Expensive ones are delicious, and cheap ones are okay. I don't need a seafood bowl with cheap sea urchin, frozen tuna, or salmon with rice. I don't need that much rice. I prefer to enjoy a little bit of the best places. It's an adult's tour of Otaru.

Counter seating for 5 people, 2 sunken kotatsu tables, and maybe a second floor as well? Made a reservation and sat at the sunken kotatsu table. Opted for the Otaru-style sushi course, which included 9 pieces of sushi. You could choose one additional dish, either grilled shrimp or a soup. Chose the sea urchin for the additional dish. The sushi pieces were not too big, perfect size for adults. They were soft, flavorful, and well balanced with the toppings. The soup was made with white fish and clams. My friend from Honshu ordered a rice bowl and said it was delicious. The menu is displayed at the entrance, making it easy to see the prices. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere, making it a comfortable place to dine. The family next to us from Kansai said, "It was really delicious!" as they left. Reservations are a must. Thank you for the meal!

We made a reservation by phone the day before our visit. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were guided to the parking lot. Inside, there were 2 people at the counter, and 12 people in total, including us, in the restaurant. The place quickly became full after we entered, and some people were even turned away. We enjoyed chatting for a while, and then we were served the "Summer" and "Autumn" sushi sets. The "Summer" set included tuna, white fish, crab, salmon, sweet shrimp, sea urchin, salmon roe, scallop, and squid, while the "Autumn" set included fatty tuna, white fish, spot prawn, crab, surf clam, sea urchin, salmon roe, salmon, scallop, and squid. We also received complimentary crab miso soup and steamed egg custard with salmon roe on top thanks to a coupon from the Tabelog website. The taste was not as good as the one we had at "Umezawa" the other day. It was a windy and hot day.

I ordered mainly shellfish dishes according to my preference. The rice was good, but the toppings were disappointing. It wasn't that they were not tasty, but maybe my expectations were too high for Otaru after a long time... Also, the atmosphere was not good because the chef seemed visibly irritated with the staff due to being busy, which was unfortunate.

During my trip to Otaru, I experienced a heavy snow day. Due to significant train delays, it took us 2 and a half hours to arrive from New Chitose Airport (usually less than 90 minutes). We arrived at 2 PM (last order at 2:30 PM) and were seated at the counter right away. We ordered the "omakase" and enjoyed around 10 pieces of sushi, including salmon, ikura, snow crab, sea urchin, scallop, conger eel, mantis shrimp, crab miso, abalone, medium fatty tuna, and tamago. We also ordered crab soup, eel, herring, and salmon roe. Every piece of sushi was incredibly delicious! And all of this only cost 5,800 yen (tax included). It was so good and so cheap that I couldn't help but exclaim, "It's so cheap!" out loud. Among the approximately 30 sushi restaurants in the area, this one was a jackpot (in my opinion). I definitely want to visit this same restaurant again when I return to Otaru, but I also feel conflicted because I want to try other restaurants as well. But I think I'll end up going back to this one. It was amazing!

In late March, I went to Otaru to buy the famous Princess Michiko and had lunch here. There were hardly any people walking around, not even locals, despite the nice weather. I decided to satisfy my sushi craving and entered this restaurant along the road towards the canal from the station. Surprisingly, it is frequented by locals rather than tourists. The interior had a traditional sushi restaurant vibe, and the owner was very friendly. I ordered herring, octopus, medium fatty tuna, lean tuna, saury, white fish, squid, cherry salmon, conger eel, and flounder fin. As a bonus, I received a bowl of soup and a steamed egg custard with sea urchin on top as a service. The sushi was meticulously crafted, with the herring in particular being a work of art. Everything was fresh and delicious. The flounder fin, served as a single piece, was especially exquisite. The recommended conger eel was thick and meaty, a true delicacy. This sushi restaurant in Otaru offers top-notch sushi that is a must-try. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I visited this restaurant during my trip to Hokkaido looking for a cheap and delicious sushi place. I found this place and decided to give it a try. There were no customers when I entered, with only 3 more seats available for reservation. I started with a sashimi platter including fatty tuna, sea urchin, whelk, sea bream, and salmon (forgot to take a photo). The sea urchin in saltwater was particularly delicious, with no fishy smell and incredibly sweet. It was amazing. Next, I had the omakase nigiri, where each piece was individually made. Everything was delicious, and you could feel the owner's dedication. The owner was friendly, and the prices were surprisingly cheap. I think this is a very affordable and tasty restaurant, even in Otaru.

It's been about 10 years since I last visited Otaru. Before checking out the canal and Kitaichi Glass, I had to have some sushi first. So I decided to visit this restaurant for the first time. I ordered the recommended "seasonal" sushi. Since I sat at the counter, they served each piece of sushi according to my eating speed. It started with fatty tuna, then sea eel, botan shrimp, abalone, and each piece was small so I could eat them smoothly. When I looked around the restaurant, I saw "sakeko" on the menu. I asked and they had it, so I quickly ordered it separately. They served it alongside the set salmon sushi. The salmon in the set was already delicious, but the sakeko surpassed it in taste by far. Amazing. The miso soup with hair crab and salmon was luxurious. The quality of the food at this price is fantastic!

Great cost performance. Three men ordered an 11-piece sushi course and then added some a la carte dishes. We also had a few beers and sake, and the total came to around 24,000 yen. It was reasonable and a good choice as there were no tourists.

It's a set of 12 cans for 3500 yen. The conger eel and fatty tuna were delicious. Couldn't make a reservation at the desired restaurant, so ended up going to another place after calling them. Finished the meal at the counter in 30 minutes.
