We walked in as a party of two, but customers who came after us were turned away, so I think reservations are necessary. They only serve regular Otaru beer, but they also have wine and other options. They offer lunch sets as well. We had seafood pasta, which was light and satisfying with a generous portion. The chef talked to us and we received a postcard with a drawing by his daughter. I definitely want to visit again when I go to Otaru.

August 2022. Second visit, so just a quick review. Oh, by the way, it seems that "Kantaro Otaru Store" will be closing on September 30th after 10 years. Good job! On the other hand, a "Komeda Coffee" is opening on the port line (this year? next year?) and many people are looking forward to it. Now, I revisited No Name, which I only went to once when it first opened. - Napolitan (900 yen) - Homemade ginger ale (530 yen) The Napolitan was not the classic type, but had thin noodles and a seasoning closer to tomato sauce than ketchup, making it a refreshing type different from what I usually expect from Napolitan. No Name has been a place I've been using since the Kaigoya days, but my impression is that it's more of a place for alcohol rather than food. Next time, I'll try something other than tomato sauce-based dishes. That's all, thank you for the meal.

Visited for the first time in June 2022, this was my 10th dish of the year. This year, I have been consciously eating more curry. I decided to challenge myself with soup curry, but ended up getting hooked on "spice curry" and still love "roux," so I've been exploring various types of curry without much thought. One of the restaurants that can be considered a cultural hub in Otaru, "Umigameya." Although it closed at the end of October 2016, the master of "Umigameya," Mr. Masuyama, decided to start a new restaurant. The current restaurant seems to be even smaller than the original one, following a renewal. The "Curry Rice" for 860 yen is a taste that has been perfected over 50 years by the master. It has a rich flavor, but not very spicy, typical of a Western-style restaurant curry. The fried egg on top is a distinctive feature, but I wonder how they cook the yolk like that. The pork is well stewed. The master said, "I don't know if our curry is delicious, but curry made by others is always good, right?" Indeed, curry made by others is often tastier than the one we make ourselves. After the meal, the friendly master talked about "Umigameya" and the "Hokkai Butoh-ha" dance group. He mentioned that he's getting older and wanted to run the restaurant the way he likes, so he made it smaller. As there is no better name than "Umigameya," he named the new place "No Name." It was an enjoyable lunch with interesting conversations. It's true that the personality of the owner adds to the charm of a restaurant. That "famous restaurant" still lives on here.

After strolling around Otaru, we had booked a twilight cruise on the Otaru Canal to enjoy, but unfortunately, it was canceled due to bad weather (strong winds). Feeling a bit unlucky, we decided to have dinner at "OTARU DINING NO NAME" on Sushi Street. This restaurant is run by the former master of the famous Western-style restaurant "Umineko-ya" in Otaru, so we made a reservation in advance. We opted for the "Couple Dinner" to share. We started with a toast with Otaru beer (for my wife) and a shandy (for me). The assorted appetizers were delicious, especially the paté and octopus carpaccio. The Margherita pizza with cheese and tomatoes was outstanding. The seafood spaghetti had a generous amount and variety of seafood, making it a great deal. The potato gratin with sea urchin and crab was a hit, with creamy potatoes and rich sea urchin. I couldn't resist ordering the "NO NAME Beef Stew" separately, and it was worth it! This place is truly beloved by the locals, with delicious food and warm service from the master. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

Noname, located on Sushi Street, recently moved to a smaller location and underwent a renewal. The restaurant originally opened 50 years ago with 14 seats, and the new location also has 14 seats. When I visited, about 10 seats were filled. The atmosphere was very friendly, with the owner and customers exchanging jokes. There is no wall or barrier between the counter and the kitchen, so you can watch the food being prepared up close. The proximity between the owner and customers was quite close. I ordered the simmered hamburger rice (880 yen), which looked beautiful with the hamburger, vegetables, and potato salad. It was delicious, with a fluffy hamburger. The tonkatsu curry that another customer ordered also looked incredibly tasty. The owner even said, "It's incredibly delicious." I'll have to try it next time! I will definitely be going back. The owner of the legendary "Uminekoya" bistro, which opened in 2017 with a fresh start, named the new restaurant "No Name." The original "Uminekoya" was known for attracting famous guests such as rock stars, writers, dancers, and actors. It was a cultural hub in Showa-era Otaru, with a dance space and a cafe-restaurant. The menu at "No Name" includes old favorites from the "Uminekoya" days like "Hera Gani Spaghetti," "Beef Stew," and "Curry Rice," pleasing old fans. The recent private party featured a Western-style full course meal with dishes like Oyster Jelly, Mushroom Quiche, and Uni Consomme Soup. The main course was a Roasted Hera Gani and Lobster dish, followed by a Salted Vanilla Ice Cream dessert. The evening was enjoyable, and we thank the restaurant for a delightful experience.

Today I wandered around Otaru and ended up at Noname on Sushiya Street. It's a restaurant owned by the former owner of Umineko-ya. I've been curious about it for a while, so I decided to visit for the first time. The interior of the restaurant is spacious and stylish. The young male staff members provide polite service, and the owner seems energetic. I ordered the Napolitan (880 yen) and the Mini Curry (450 yen). The Napolitan had large ingredients and was beautifully presented. It already had powdered cheese on top, and I added a little Tabasco sauce. It had a nice ketchup flavor with a balanced acidity. It may not be special, but it's a classic Napolitan dish. I personally prefer sizzling Napolitan on a hot plate, but this one was delicious too. The Mini Curry was more like a saucy curry than a thick curry. It was a light and flavorful curry, with a lovely presentation typical of a Western-style restaurant. The fresh basil on the side was a nice touch. It had a spicy kick and a rich flavor. It might be my favorite curry from a Western-style restaurant so far. I would like to try the full-size version next time. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely visit again! This was the 73rd curry dish I've had this year.

On a certain holiday, I visited a Western-style restaurant called "NO NAME Curry Rice" in the bustling area of Higashinoboru in Otaru, crowded with tourists. The restaurant is located close to the sushi restaurant street and has a stylish interior with a Western-style pub atmosphere. The restaurant is open without windows during this season. The background music playing is Western music, and a high school baseball game is being broadcast on TV. I decided to try the recommended dish, "NO NAME Curry Rice (840 yen)," and asked the owner for it. The salad arrived first, and I took a bite... Oh, the softly fried onions are sweet and delicious! The salad with broccoli, paprika, cucumber, and celery in a tasty Italian dressing was so good that I couldn't help but finish it all. The main dish arrived, and I took a bite... Oh, this is really good! I personally interpreted it as a curry with an excellent balance. The curry itself had a complex flavor that wasn't too authentic, but it had a perfect level of deliciousness and spiciness. The ingredients seemed to be finely cut and almost melted, and the finely cut pork fat worked well. Even in the midst of the hustle and bustle, the friendly owner would occasionally engage in conversation and kindly shared information about Hokkaido High School, which was very informative. Finally made it to the restaurant opened by the owner of the popular "Umineko-ya" which sadly closed down. I had tried the signature dish of "Hera-gani Pasta" at "Umineko-ya", but missed out on the curry, so I was determined to try it this time. My colleague ordered the "Beef Stew" and a "Bread (200 yen)", while I opted for the same price range with a side of rice, and for a little extra, you could also get the "Garlic Toast (370 yen)". After a while, a complimentary salad was served, elegantly presented in a glass. Of course, it was delicious. Now, the moment I've been waiting for - the curry arrived. It had a slight spicy kick to it. The ingredients were finely chopped and included a sunny-side-up egg on top. The yolk looked like a soft-boiled egg, but the white part was like a regular sunny-side-up egg. How did they cook it like that? It's a mystery. I also tried a bit of the Beef Stew, which had a classic demiglace sauce. It was, of course, delicious. The beef was tender and there was a large piece of daikon radish at the bottom. It was irresistible. Next time, I'll definitely order that.

I came to the northern land and had my first meal. Starting tomorrow, my schedule will be quite busy, so I decided to relax here where there are no other customers. I ordered the Hergani pasta made with Yochi produce and the quiche. The quiche came quickly, but I had to wait over 30 minutes for the rest. You need to be quite patient to enjoy this place. It's a shame because the taste is delicious. I would like to eat here again, but the service is too slow for me, so I'll pass.
