For lunch during my visit to Otaru, I had a light lunch (almost like a lunch drink) at the main destination of this trip, Kitaichi Hall. There was a line at the entrance, but after waiting for about 10 minutes, we were seated. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I was captivated by the gentle glow of the oil lamps, creating a planetarium-like atmosphere that made me sigh in amazement. The space was truly beautiful, with items carefully maintained by human hands creating a wonderful ambiance. We shared a plate of Otaru beer and assorted cheeses, along with Japanese-style spaghetti with mushrooms, which was just the right amount for two people. And let's not forget the beer, served in a long glass! The spaghetti was warm, but being served in a glass dish was a nice touch, fitting for a glass company. It was a luxurious experience to chat while enjoying the view inside the restaurant, gazing out at the scenery. Despite the heat outside, it was cool and quiet inside, with a lovely view. I deeply felt that Otaru is a wonderful place. Thank you for the meal. I hope to visit again.

A lovely cafe inside a glass building in Hokkaido. It seemed to be popular, with a line outside the door. I had ice cream on this day, but they also offer food menu items like beer and seafood bowls, as well as Hokkaido specialties like Haskap soda. The glass lamps were beautiful, and if it weren't so crowded, I would have wanted to stay there forever. Inside, there was live piano music playing, which was very soothing. However, because of the live music, it felt a bit more formal.

This cafe has a fantastic atmosphere with 167 oil lamps glowing. It seems to be a renovated stone warehouse, which feels very nice and calming. It's my first time experiencing such a vibe in a cafe. Since it used to be a warehouse, the ceiling is very high and the interior is spacious. They seem to manage the seating well so it doesn't get too crowded, allowing for a relaxed and spacious experience. You order drinks at the counter, and the prices are reasonable. The coffee was delicious.

Showa retro coffee shop! I was curious about it during my visit to Otaru, so I decided to go in. There were kerosene lamps? and a strange smell. The distance between customers is generally far, so you can relax! It may be crowded on weekends, but it's worth the wait!

Building No. 3, Kitaichi Hall [Regarding ordered cake and drink] ● Strawberry shortcake 500 yen (tax included) ● Kitaichi special royal milk tea 620 yen (tax included) * There is no set price for Kitaichi special royal milk tea. [About the shop] ● You order and pay at the register. ● Payment methods are cash or paypay. ● After paying, hand the ticket at the counter on the opposite side of the register to receive the ordered items. ● I don't think there are light snacks to eat during the morning hours. [About the lamp lighting operation time (starts at 9:00, ends at 9:30)] ● At the opening, we light 167 oil lamps, and you can watch for free (about 25 people on a first-come, first-served basis).

I came here after 6 years. I still remember the amazing jumbo choux cream I had in this lovely space, it was so impressive. Unfortunately, they don't have it anymore. I ordered a Royal Milk Tea and a special Royal Milk Tea Float. I waited in line for about 20 minutes, but I was able to relax and enjoy my time. Most of the customers were from overseas. The smell of kerosene was somehow nostalgic and truly comforting. It's a shame that there is no piano performance on Mondays. I would love to come back and spend more leisurely time here.

On July 21, 2023 (Friday) in the afternoon, I went for sweets with my partner during our second day of our trip to Hokkaido. We left the Herring Mansion in Shukutsu at 3:46 PM and drove back the same way we came, heading south along the Otaru Port Transit Line on the east side of the canal, then turning onto the Sakaimachi Hon-dori from the Route 17 near the port. The area was bustling with many tourists. We parked at a coin parking lot north of the North One Glass building at 4:05 PM and headed to the North One Hall in the North Three building. We waited for 7-8 minutes before entering the shop. We purchased food tickets at the entrance, as the special Royal Milk Tea was popular. We bought tickets for the North One Special Milk Tea Soft Serve (530 yen) and the North One Special Milk Tea Float (720 yen). We handed the tickets to the counter staff and were directed to our table. We were seated right in front of the piano, which was being played at that time. The milk tea had a rich yet elegant flavor, and the soft serve that highlighted that flavor was also good. However, the highlight of the place was the interior decoration. The lighting was in the form of lamps, including chandeliers and table lamps. The simple stained glass added a soft and warm touch to the stone building, with wooden lattice decorations on the walls. The high ceiling added to the grandeur of the space. When the piano performance ended, the lighting dimmed slightly, enhancing the various elements within the space. It was a beautiful experience. We left at 4:53 PM.

Every time I come to Otaru, I feel like stopping by the charming Hokkaido Hall with its lovely lamps. The dimly lit interior with the flickering light of the lamps makes me imagine the heyday of Otaru during the Meiji era. With the light from the lamps, beautiful people look even more beautiful, and others look decent as well! The milk tea here is surprisingly delicious at 620 yen including tax (excuse me!). In the summer, I recommend trying the milk tea float, as the soft serve ice cream is delicious. The best time to visit might be in the afternoon when there is piano music playing.

I came across a cafe that seemed Instagram-worthy and decided to drop by. The entire hall is illuminated by alcohol lamps. They have piano performances starting at 2pm, and enjoying Otaru craft beer while listening to the music was incredibly delicious and indulgent. The flickering lamps created a fantastical and otherworldly atmosphere. It was a wonderful place. Thank you for the meal.

On Fridays at 4 pm, you only have to wait for 5 minutes at this café located in a corner of the Otaru Kitaichi Glass 3rd Building. The atmosphere is enchanting with 167 oil lamps lit up inside the café, creating a magical ambiance. The staff hand-light the lamps every morning, adding to the charm. On weekdays, there is piano music playing, enhancing the emotional atmosphere. This café is perfect for immersing yourself in the ambiance and enjoying the experience. The menu offers Heres (600 yen) and Dunkel (600 yen) in glasses. Access is a 20-minute walk from Otaru Station. The café has table seating with a total of 80 seats and is popular with tourists. Payment can be made with PayPay.

On Sunday afternoon, there were about 10 groups waiting in line. The calm space enveloped in soft orange light is stylish and has a nice sense of openness. It would be even better if the menu had a bit more of a tourist destination feel (Otaru-like).

After finishing work in Sapporo, I decided to do a little sightseeing in Otaru before heading back. The first stop was a break at the famous Kitaichi Glass North Hall for a beer. The shop is located in the bustling Kitaichi Glass Building No. 3, illuminated by lamps creating a great atmosphere. I purchased a ticket for the "Heles" beer from Otaru Winery Brewery at the entrance and received it at the counter. Since it was early in the morning, there were only a few customers inside. According to their website, there are 167 oil lamps inside the shop, and the staff lights them one by one when they open. The space was enchanting, but for those who dislike the smell of oil lamps... I personally found it overwhelming and had to leave shortly after drinking. The beer had a moderate bitterness and was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I went to Kitai Hall. I had been wanting to visit here when I came to Otaru, so I was glad I could easily get in. It was good that I arrived around 11 am. When I left, there was a line of people waiting for seats. I think I took a break for about 30 minutes. On weekdays from Tuesday to Friday, you can listen to piano performances from 2 pm to 2:30 pm, 3 pm to 3:30 pm, and 4 pm to 4:30 pm. It was a Sunday when I visited, so I couldn't experience that, but if I can come on a weekday, I would like to go at those times. The atmosphere is really nice. I ordered a cheese platter and beer. I felt more intoxicated by the atmosphere than by the alcohol.

We took a break at a self-service cafe in Otaru's Warehouse Street. Despite it being a weekday, there were more than 10 people in line. The atmosphere with 167 oil lamps is fantastic. We ordered the Chiffon Cake Set for ¥850, with hot coffee. The chiffon cake was served with plenty of fresh cream, and the tea flavor was delicious. The Wine Pudding for ¥430 was made with sweet sparkling wine Moscato d'Asti, giving it a subtle sweetness and a great taste.

When you visit Hakodate, be sure to visit this cafe. It is located on the main street, towards the station side on the way to LeTao Cafe. The open space with high ceilings and dimly lit by lamps creates a fantastic atmosphere. The food is simple, making it a great spot for a break during sightseeing.

It's a good idea to go right after opening... I saw people lining up even before opening. You can see them lighting the lamps, which is interesting. Lately, there have been more tourists, so it's quite crowded during the day and not easy to visit. The interior of the store is always lovely. I don't mind the unique smell of the lamps. I love the milk tea soft serve here and always make sure to have it when I visit. Depending on the day and time, there may be piano performances, so I recommend it.

When I visited Otaru in Hokkaido, I went to this place where I had a seafood bowl for 1780 yen. The taste was okay, nothing special, but it came with plenty of salmon roe and soup, making it a nice set. What I really recommend about this place is the ambiance inside. The soft orange lighting illuminates the high wooden ceiling, creating a charming atmosphere. Just being here and relaxing is enjoyable. So, instead of having a meal, I suggest trying their dessert menu since it's quite extensive.

Around 2 o'clock, there were about 3 groups waiting at the restaurant, but we were able to get in relatively quickly. The hot milk tea was delicious! It seemed to be the perfect time for piano music, and we were able to enjoy our time elegantly. If I ever come back to Otaru, I would like to visit this restaurant again.

I arrived at the cafe around 2:30 pm on a holiday. The interior was crowded, and I waited for about 15 minutes. There were quite a few people lined up outside, but surprisingly, the turnover was good. The seating inside was spacious. I ordered a regular milk tea. It's a self-serve style where you get your own drink. The taste was average, probably instant tea. My friend ordered the cafe's special milk tea, so I took a sip. It had a strong soy milk flavor, so it might not be suitable for those who don't like soy milk. It also had a slightly powdery texture. The atmosphere inside the cafe was wonderful. It was a bit quiet and had a calming vibe. I lost track of time and enjoyed a leisurely moment. This space is not easy to come by! The cafe had a lovely atmosphere, but the drinks were just okay.
