Koenji Lunch Where should I eat? Is it a popular restaurant? Has it been featured on TV or in magazines? There are a few shops with lines today, and I don't feel like waiting in line. Oh! 500 yen lunch omelette rice!! It's cheap, or is this price okay? I chose the wrapped style out of the three options available. I felt bad eating it for only 500 yen, so I also ordered a bottle of beer to enjoy while waiting for the omelette rice to arrive. The staff mentioned that they are operating on borrowed space. There were only two staff members and no other customers. I could hear the sound of them making the omelette rice in the back. As I sipped on my beer, the omelette rice was served. It was neatly wrapped, topped with plenty of ketchup, a true honor student in terms of presentation. Let's dig in! The omelette rice had pieces of onion, green pepper, and chicken. The size of the ingredients did not overpower the ketchup rice, keeping it simple. The egg was a bit thick, and I prefer it to be a bit thinner. But still, for 500 yen, it was unbelievably cheap. It was a worry that turned out to be unnecessary from the eater's perspective. If you ever visit Koenji, be sure to check it out. Bon appétit!

#Omurice Restaurant Ki-iro / Koenji
Located in Koenji, this omurice specialty shop operates only during lunch hours as a sublet. The most notable thing about this place is its price - only ¥500! Isn't that amazing...? You can choose from three options: "wrapped," "topped," or "with extra toppings." I chose the "topped" option, which was a fluffy and half-cooked omelette that you can open with a spoon. The taste was delicious, and I couldn't believe I was eating this for ¥500. It's not exceptionally tasty, but I think it's worth more than the price! Since the surrounding shops seem to only open at night, the area is quiet, and you might not notice this place if you didn't know about it. It's a hidden gem, so I was able to relax and enjoy my meal. Next time, I definitely want to try the "Omurice with Taco Rice." The shop is small, so I recommend going in a small group.

In October 2022, I visited Koenji and stumbled upon a signboard with an easel in front of a condominium. I remembered seeing this place online before, so I decided to check it out. There were no other customers at the time. The restaurant had 4 table seats, and you could choose between rolled omelette rice and dolphin-style omelette rice, with options for regular, small, or large rice portions. I ordered the rolled omelette rice with ketchup and regular rice. It arrived in about 10 minutes, and it was small but had a nice aroma of egg and ketchup. The taste was delicious, with a good balance of buttery egg, well-cooked rice, and chunks of chicken, minced onions, and bell peppers adding a nice touch. Halfway through, I couldn't resist trying the dolphin-style omelette rice with a smaller portion of rice. It arrived in about 5 minutes and had a slightly less buttery taste, allowing the egg flavor to shine through. Since you could choose the rice portion, I ended up ordering two omelette rice dishes in the end. I enjoyed it with an iced coffee. Overall, it was a nice little place. The prices were reasonable, and the food was delicious.
