I often feel like having a drink after watching a movie, so I often stop by "Nihonbashi Kurenai Ton Kanda Jimbocho Store" near the movie theater. I usually start with the specialty Gatsupon (boiled stomach with green onions in ponzu sauce for 190 yen) and 3 skewers (the choice depends on my mood that day, ranging from 140 yen each), and then choose a drink from beer, hoppy, sake, shochu, depending on my mood that day. I enjoy a couple of drinks while thinking about the movie I just watched. Sometimes I leave after a few drinks (around 1500 yen), and other times I add more dishes and keep drinking. The prices are reasonable, with even the most expensive dish costing around 400 yen. The taste is decent for the price. The staff are attentive and friendly. Being in a book town, it's common to see customers reading paperbacks while enjoying a drink alone. It's a welcoming place where you can easily drop by even if you're alone.

This time, I ordered the Kurenai Ton pork bowl (Mega-sized) for 1,100 yen. After a 5-minute wait, it was ready. Here it is - Boom! What an extreme presentation! The Mega-sized pork bowl is served in a bowl with a diameter of 16 cm and a height of 8 cm, with pork belly stacked like flower petals, creating an impressive display. The meat overflows from the bowl, creating quite a scene! When lifted, the bowl feels like it weighs around 1 kilogram! Additionally, pickles and miso soup are included, making it a very fulfilling meal. The pork belly, marinated in a sweet sauce, has a rich and savory taste. The layers of meat make it challenging to reach the rice. After relocating some meat to the pickle dish, the rice finally appears. The rice, soaked in the sauce, is incredibly delicious! The ratio of meat to rice is almost equal, with plenty of meat and less rice, creating a luxurious pork bowl. Eating the meat and green onions together changes the flavor. Towards the end, the rich and sweet taste of the meat can become overwhelming. Drinking barley tea, loosening the belt, and then finishing the meal in one go! I also finished the miso soup, feeling 110% full and replenished with plenty of meat, getting a wild feeling! At 1,100 yen for the pork bowl (Mega-sized), it is a very reasonable price! Having lunchtime drinks in Jimbocho. I drank quite a bit at a soba restaurant during lunchtime. The lunch service ends at 3 pm. Hmm, I'm not done drinking yet! I search for a place that's open during the day. Ah, there it is. I see the sign for "Nihonbashi Beni Ton." I enter without hesitation. It's lunchtime, and I appreciate being able to quickly be seated and served a fast meal. The ginger pork flavor is more on the sweet side, with a mild ginger taste. The meat is thickly sliced, similar to tonkatsu. The fact that you can get a large portion of rice for free makes it a good deal. Ginger pork set meal for 850 yen.

The restaurant offers a lunch set of fried chicken and thick-sliced ginger pork for 1050 yen. During lunchtime, the place is crowded and narrow, but it turns into an izakaya at night. The fried chicken is easy to eat with a soy sauce-based seasoning and freshly fried coating, making it really delicious and goes well with rice. The ginger pork is juicy with minimal excess oil and well-seasoned, also very tasty. Personally, I enjoyed the firm texture of the white rice as well.

This shop located on Suzuran Street in Jinbocho. It's always crowded from early hours. Today, I went for the first time with a colleague around 5:20 pm. Many groups were already enjoying their meals at that time. As the name suggests, it's a hormone (offal) shop. There are various menu items, but we decided to order hormone skewers with sauce. We had: pork belly, fatty pork, chicken thigh, and something like guts. Also, we had edamame, pickled mackerel, and 3 bottles of beer. The skewers were delicious! The pickled mackerel was okay, typical for this type of shop. The beer went down smoothly. Many people dine alone here, and the turnover is good. It's a good place for a quick drink. The downside is that smoking is allowed. The lively atmosphere was enjoyable. Thank you for the meal!

I visited the restaurant for a lunch drink before noon on a public holiday. The area around Jimbocho was crowded due to Golden Week, but we were able to enter the restaurant right away without waiting. We ordered various types of yakitori, including harami and negima, as recommended. The specialty "Gatsupon" was delicious and addictive. While all the yakitori dishes were tasty, we were disappointed by the service when multiple types were served on one plate without any explanation from the staff. When we ordered an extra round of Hoppy and shochu, the shochu bottle was left without any explanation. It turned out that the bottle had markings to charge based on the amount poured into the glass, but we were not informed about this, which was also disappointing. Despite the delicious food, it was a disappointing experience overall.

Red Pork is a yakitori restaurant that I find myself wanting to visit regularly. The average cost per person is around 2000 yen, with each skewer priced at around 100 yen. Compared to other restaurants, Red Pork overall offers a high level of satisfaction with their skewers. Thank you as always! The hormone stir-fry wasn't really to my taste, but the meat miso tofu was absolutely amazing. If you like eating chili oil, you'll love the taste.

Around 12:20 on weekdays, there are many popular restaurants with long lines. It's nice to find a place where you can eat without waiting in line during lunchtime. I ordered the ginger pork and fried horse mackerel set meal, with extra rice. It arrived in about 3 minutes. The taste and portion size were just average. However, everything - the rice, miso soup, fried fish, and meat - was lukewarm. The meat was so lukewarm that I thought they had just cooked it and brought it out. It made me wonder if the pork was cooked properly. I understand that there may be some pre-made dishes during lunchtime, but at least the rice and miso soup should be served hot, right? If that's the case, I might as well just get a bento box instead.

Yakitori izakaya in various locations in Tokyo. Ordered the signature menu item, the Red Pork Bowl, for lunch. The portion size is quite substantial, even the regular size is quite large so the free extra rice is not necessary. The grilled pork is well seasoned, but it has less fat and a slightly tough texture. Unfortunately, I didn't think it paired well with the rice. The other menu items looked delicious, so I'd like to try those next time.

I visited the restaurant "Kurenai Ton Kanda Jimbocho Store" for the first time after stopping by at an Indian curry restaurant called Kama as the first stop and a curry & oriental bar called Momono Mi as the second stop in Jimbocho. It was a public holiday on a Friday and I arrived around 3 pm, but I was able to enter smoothly without waiting. Since I had already eaten two plates of curry, I only ordered drinks this time. The drink menu had a wide variety of options at reasonable prices. I ordered a medium draft beer for ¥517, a red set Hoppy for ¥495, and a middle-shelf shochu for ¥253. I didn't take many photos this time, so this is just a simple note. I spent about an hour and a half at the restaurant, and as a group of customers arrived and it got noisy, I left at a good timing. If I have the chance, I would like to try ordering food next time.

I used to go to Beniton in Nishi-Shinjuku 7-chome often, but I went there after a long time. This restaurant allows smoking. The interior is not very spacious, so the distance between tables is close, and I felt like I was getting hit directly by the smoke, which was a bit tough. So, I would prefer to go when it's not crowded. I ordered tsupon, miso turnip, pig's head meat, liver, and harami, and the yakitori at Beniton, after a long time, was still delicious. The cost performance is good, and if there was no tobacco smoke, there would be nothing to complain about! The bill was around 3500 yen per person as expected. Good cost performance. Laugh.

Behind Sanseido Bookstore, along Kanda Suzuran Street, there is a restaurant called "Kurenai Ton". Inside the restaurant, there are a total of 50 seats, including counter seats and table seats. Around 6:00 PM on Saturday, about half of the seats were occupied by customers. The two staff members were experienced and calmly handled the orders. I was seated at a table and ordered a draft beer (517 yen) to start. However, I realized that Kurenai Ton offers a Hoppy Set (429 yen) instead of just beer. By the time I realized this, the waiter had already started pouring my beer. I decided to try a special menu item, the "Shime Saba" (330 yen), which consisted of mackerel on a bed of onion slices and seaweed. The mackerel was well-pickled and flavorful, and the fresh onions complemented it well. I also enjoyed a hot sake (385 yen) that was served in a tokkuri after heating up a pack of Daiginjo sake from Ozeki. It was a delightful experience to have a quick drink along Kanda Suzuran Street. Kurenai Ton is a restaurant under the umbrella of Via Holdings, a company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It originated from Shinkai Printing Company, which was established in Kanda Jimbocho in 1948. Since Kiyofu Yokogawa became the chairman in 2002, the company has expanded through mergers and acquisitions. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, the company fell into a debt of 26.73 billion yen in the third quarter of the fiscal year ending in March 2021. Recently, they have been expanding chicken-focused restaurants like Yan Yan Hanten and Oyako Ramen with the collaboration of Welcome Co., which also operates DEAN&DELUCA. Interestingly, the president of Welcome Co., Masanori Yokogawa, is the eldest son of Kiyofu Yokogawa. The Yokogawa family is truly impressive.

I tried the Tonkatsu Curry at Kurenai Ton in Jinbocho for lunch. It uses the same tonkatsu as the tonkatsu set, and the thick-cut tonkatsu curry set costs 1,000 yen. It was definitely a generous portion. The curry was average, but not to my taste, so I only remember feeling full because of the large amount. Personally, I prefer tonkatsu without curry on top.
