I had the opportunity to visit Kyoto for work, so I decided to try "Kashiya," a highly rated cafe selected for the Hyakumeiten 2022. Although I originally wanted to enjoy my coffee inside the shop, today I opted for takeout. [Today's Order] - Amazon Cacao Sandwich with plenty of Adzuki beans: 400 yen The Amazon Cacao Sandwich with plenty of Adzuki beans was listed in the takeout corner next to the register. I don't usually eat sweets often, so I wasn't sure about this relatively small item for 400 yen, but I was pleasantly surprised after the first bite. It was delicious. Firstly, the moist texture of the bread felt great in the mouth. As it is a cacao sandwich, the bitter cacao flavor passes through the back of the nose. The Adzuki beans were large and had a mild sweetness, creating a gentle taste. The combination of the bitter cacao and the subtle sweetness of the Adzuki beans was delightful. It seemed like a great item for a souvenir, and I would love to try it again. Although I only had takeout today, I hope to visit the shop next time and enjoy my tea there. It was really delicious. Thank you for the meal!

From the keywords pineapple and brown sugar, this dish was created. It features thin slices of sweet pineapple and crispy pineapple chips. Beneath the pineapple, there was a brown, translucent substance. It resembled warabi mochi, but was not quite that. It was also reminiscent of lotus root cake or soft kuzumochi. A mysterious sweet treat indeed. Baked meringue and black sugar ice cream were hidden within, making it a fun plate. Not just sweets, they also serve beer.

The menu only lists ingredients like a French course meal. When asked what "Pineapple and black sugar" is, the server replied, "It's dessert." The flavor is strong but quite delicious. It might be accurate to describe it as a shop where you can only eat French course desserts. It was so delicious that we ended up trying all the varieties with two people.

I arrived around 3 pm on Sunday. There were plenty of empty seats, so I was seated right away. I decided to try the dessert plate, which only listed the ingredients. I chose the pineapple and black sugar one, which was interesting. The beautifully arranged plate and the combination of ingredients and textures made it enjoyable. By the time I left, the restaurant was much busier. It's all about timing.

I finally visited "Kashiya," which I have been curious about for a long time. It was about a 10-minute walk from Keihan Sanjo Station. It has an elegant Kyoto-style townhouse cafe exterior. The interior is spacious with a small number of seats arranged in a relaxed manner, making it a comfortable place to spend time. What I had this time: - "Peach and Hibiscus" ¥1400 - "Iced Cafe Latte" ¥650 The menu name "Peach and Hibiscus" didn't give me any idea of what it would be, so I looked forward to it while waiting. What arrived was beyond my imagination, a piece of art with a lot of creativity and style! Not only the appearance but also the taste and combination were excellent! I apologize for the rough description, but it seemed to consist of a slightly firm marshmallow-like covering, mousse of black tea or milk tea, hibiscus jelly, crumble, fresh peach, peach sorbet, and dried peach chips. The combination using fresh seasonal peaches was fantastic, highlighting the sweetness of the fresh peach as the main ingredient, and the overall mild sweetness made it refreshing and enjoyable until the end, even on hot summer days! I am sorry for the general information, but I am interested in other items as well, and since the menu changes with the seasons, I would like to visit again. It is a cafe with a great sense of incorporating both Japanese and Western elements and a cozy atmosphere. The cafe latte was also delicious. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal. Thank you very much.

After having lunch at Kenoya, I decided to indulge in some sweets. They have a unique taste, but I love it! The artistic desserts really touched my heart. I was able to relax and enjoy a happy time. Honestly, I want to try all the different sweets and definitely want to go back again ❤️

Peach and Hibiscus Dessert - 1400 yen: I didn't quite understand it, but it was incredibly delicious overall. It had a milk tea-like mousse at the bottom, topped with crumble, sweet peaches, jelly, sorbet, dried peach chips, and more. The sorbet was probably peach, and the red jelly was hibiscus. The round things surrounding it might be ganache. The dried chips were so delicious, I want to buy a big bag of them. Now I'm really curious about the sold-out uiro dessert... Apple Juice - 600 yen Rich Amazon Cacao Cookie - 250 yen: Indeed, it had a rich cacao flavor! It had a crispy texture and was very tasty.

On July 2, 2023, I visited Kashiya, a popular shop owned by Satomi Fujita at Kameya Ryoen. It has been 8 years and 6 months since my last visit. The shop now offers both traditional Japanese sweets and Western-style sweets. Originally, it was just a traditional Japanese sweets shop, but the addition of Western-style sweets led to the distinction between the two categories. Satomi Fujita, who has worked in both worlds, showcased her identity through a menu that combines the best of both. The dessert I tried featured Amazon cacao and coffee, with ganache and crumble inside crepe layers, topped with tiramisu-style cake with cocoa beans and coffee cream. A refreshing grapefruit jelly added a nice touch. It was a delicious treat that transcended the boundaries between Japanese and Western sweets!

I ordered mugwort and amanatsu (sweet orange) drinks along with a cafe latte. Personally, I prefer my coffee stronger, but for those who like sweeter and easier-to-drink options, it might be good. My friend ordered a grapefruit menu (I don't remember exactly) and it looked delicious. The desserts were very tasty, even for those who don't like sweet things. The total bill for one person was around 2,000 yen. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was calm and cozy. I would like to go back again.

I had been curious about "Kashiya" for a while. I visited in the evening and was able to get in without waiting. I'm not a fan of uiro (Japanese sweet made from rice flour), but I had heard good things about the uiro here and was interested in trying it. However, when I tried to order it, I was told it was sold out. I wish they had told me earlier. I decided to go with "Strawberry and Black Tea" and coffee instead. It was a nice blend of Japanese and Western flavors. The black tea ice cream was not too sweet, had a strong tea flavor, and a great aroma. The chewy texture of the dessert wrapped in a mochi-like dough was unique and delicious. It looked like a piece of art. I also wanted to try the roll cake for takeout, but it was sold out for the day and I had dinner plans, so I had to pass on it. I will definitely get it next time! Thank you for the meal.

I finally had the chance to visit this place that I've been curious about on my way back from work. It's a stylish space where you can relax and enjoy tea. I tried the Fraise, a snack made with strawberries and black tea. They also have pastries available for takeout in the showcase.

Arrived at the restaurant at 3:40 PM. There was no wait, and one group was already seated. I was able to choose my preferred seat. I ordered the Amazon cacao and red bean dessert (¥1300) and an iced coffee (¥550). The dessert had a unique and stylish appearance, with various textures that made it incredibly delicious. However, the only downside was that photography inside the restaurant, other than the food, was prohibited. I was also cautioned about using flash. It's a shame because it's a nice restaurant that offers stylish and delicious food. Thank you for the meal.

I saw Marie Laurencin's paintings at the Kyocera Museum of Art in Kyoto. Although the entrance fee was a bit high at 2000 yen, some paintings allowed photography, making it a good deal. After viewing the paintings, I strolled towards Demachiyanagi. Walking west along Nijo Street, I came across Ether Wine, known for its natural wines, and admired their selection. Continuing on, past Higashioji Street, I found Kashiya-san, a quaint shop without a prominent sign. After a short wait, I enjoyed Kin Kan and miso-flavored sweets with green tea. The sweets, created by a former two-star restaurant pastry chef, were beautifully presented and pleasantly surprising in taste. It was a delightful experience in a charming Kyoto spot away from the tourist crowds.

Kashiya/Sanjo Keihan: Tabelog rating 3.82 (April 17, 2023) Cafe Hyakumeiten 2022. This restaurant has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants for 5 consecutive years since 2018. After feeling relieved from tension, I got hungry and went to eat sweets. I tried a new type of sweet called "Hinata natsu no uirou" and "Yomogi to amanatsu no uirou." The Yomogi one looked like a stone garden, with moss and rocks. It was incredibly delicious and I really liked the creativity. I couldn't explain the taste well, but I hope it becomes more widely known. I didn't know before, but now I think it's a representative traditional Japanese sweet cafe in Kyoto. It was delicious, the atmosphere was great. Thank you for the meal!

Today, I visited a second cafe. I walked from a lively street into a quiet alley for a while. It was almost hidden among the city buildings. The cafe was renovated from a traditional Kyoto townhouse. Unfortunately, photography inside the cafe was not allowed. There was a turtle scroll hanging in the alcove. The tall male staff with a short bob, white shirt, and black pants greeted us. We ordered the "Amazon Cacao and Azuki" dessert (1300 yen) and a coffee (550 yen). The dessert was different from the similarly named treat sold at the counter. It consisted of chocolate ice cream, azuki bean cream, chocolate rice cake, chocolate sponge, chocolate powder, and chocolate curls - like a piece of modern art. The coffee was meticulously brewed using a hand drip method. It was delicious. The quiet atmosphere in the cafe made it feel like time had stopped. The courtyard was filled with fresh greenery. It was a lovely space where you'd want to spend a lot of time.

Thank you for visiting. I visited Kashiya-san. Here you can enjoy sweets made by a chef who trained at a two-star French restaurant. The menu is very simple. There are no explanations. Even asking the staff for an explanation was difficult. Oh well. So I placed an order. After a while, what came out was a dessert like you would find in a French restaurant. It must have taken a lot of time and effort. The decoration is excellent. The combination of Japanese and Western elements in the sweets is unique. You can only taste this here. The texture and aroma are wonderful. The taste is not too sweet and brings out the goodness of the ingredients. The iced coffee is below average, like something you would find at a convenience store. The aroma and taste are just ordinary. It's a bit weak. The service is average at best, with no smiles. My wife agrees with me. Maybe the reason it's not crowded during cherry blossom season is because of the service. The taste is authentic, so it's worth a try.

I visited on a Sunday after lunch. It was not crowded, probably because it's a little far from the city center. I ordered a hot coffee and a cocoa dessert. The cocoa had a unique texture and was not too sweet, very delicious. The coffee was also tasty, so I ordered an espresso as well. It was also delicious. The manager was friendly and very welcoming. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I was told that it's not allowed to order just dessert, I have to order a drink as well. It would be nice if they sold them as a set, or at least had a note about it where they mentioned it. Apparently, it's okay to just order a drink if you want. The interior of the restaurant is long and narrow, with a Japanese style in the back and a Western style in the front. The unique atmosphere is enhanced by the lone male waiter with a distinctive bob haircut, and the service is quite relaxed. When I arrived, the place was almost full. The Buntan I chose had an interesting combination of pomelo and sweet sake, and it was delicious. It's clear why this place is popular.

A shop that makes you want to use unfamiliar words like "Achet Deseru" (Assiette Dessert). They specialize in desserts that are assembled on the spot, not pre-made, with a focus on traditional Japanese sweets, sweets shops, and long-established cafes, giving them a unique presence in Kyoto. The menu includes simple descriptions like "Strawberry and Black Tea," "Kumquat and Miso," and "Citrus and Amazake," almost like titles of novels, requiring imagination. Today, I had the "Strawberry and Black Tea." It's a unique combination that's not very common, and the novelty of the ingredients and flavors really surprised and delighted me. My companion ordered the "Uirou (with some kind of citrus)," and was very satisfied with the balance of acidity, sweetness, and slight bitterness. The coffee and cafe latte were also delicious, and the open-minded customer service from the staff was lovely, making for a pleasant afternoon.

My wife wanted to visit this cafe, so we were taken to a renovated traditional townhouse in Kyoto. My wife ordered "strawberries and tea" while I ordered "uiro". It took some time, but the dishes served were of extremely high quality. The citrus sherbet was sharp and refreshing. The middle dish was a fluffy cream mixed with citrus, rolled in something fluffy that the staff said had no name, just a fluffy citrus cream. The cookies next to it had citrus jelly and citrus, topped with a crispy element. All of them were delicious. The mandarin orange uiro was also incredibly tasty. Each dish had a juicy citrus flavor, a rich aroma, a balanced acidity, and a refreshing sweetness. The slight bitterness of the citrus added depth to the overall flavor, elevating it to a sophisticated dessert for adults. The atmosphere of the cafe was great, the staff were humorous, and we had a fun time there. We found an excellent cafe and would definitely want to visit again.
