It's Sunday afternoon, and I was planning to visit a beef tongue restaurant that had recently moved from Kuwon to a new location. However, it seems that it has been replaced by a new restaurant called "Ketsuan." Initially, they only offered set courses for lunch and dinner, which made me hesitant to visit. But when I saw that they now offer a la carte options on the menu board at the entrance, I decided to give it a try.
The restaurant has three table seats and about four to five counter seats, all neatly arranged. The service by the female staff was polite and made the atmosphere very comfortable. The menu includes a 2,000 yen course as well as individual items such as Char Siu Soup Soba for 800 yen, Tomato Cold Noodles for 800 yen, and Fried Rice (with soup) for 800 yen.
I ordered the "Shrimp and Egg in Chili Sauce Lunch" for 980 yen and the "Dim Sum Lunch" for 1,300 yen. The shrimp in chili sauce had a nice texture, and the slightly fluffy egg complemented it well. The spicy seasoning was well-balanced, and the set also included salad, mushroom soup, rice (with free refills), and almond jelly. While it wasn't exceptionally cheap, the meticulous preparation justified the price.
Now, onto the highlight - the "Dim Sum Lunch" for 1,300 yen. This set was quite a good deal and I highly recommend it. It included salad, fried lamb dumplings, chive buns, three types of steamed dishes, fried rice, almond jelly, and jasmine tea. The meticulous preparation of the steamed dishes alone was worth more than the lunch price. The portion was sufficient even for men, and the female staff provided detailed explanations of each dish and cooking method. The male chef even bid us a polite farewell as we left.
The 2,000 yen lunch set also seemed like a good deal with even shark fin soup included. This place is a must-visit for anyone in Maruyama.
