I visited the Tokyo Denki University cafeteria in Kita-Senju, which is open to the public, and tried their food (pre-COVID). The cafeteria has limited seating but is bright and welcoming. I arrived later than usual lunchtime at 12 PM, so some menu items were already sold out. I had the "Grilled Red Mullet with Fish Roe" set meal for 420 yen. The portion of rice was generous, the miso soup was average, but the fish was a bit dry and lacked flavor for my taste.

When I went to Kita-Senju to take care of some business, I was thinking about where to have lunch. I found out that I could eat at the cafeteria of Tokyo Denki University during their open campus event. I had pork cutlet curry for 460 yen and salad for 120 yen, so I could have a reasonably priced lunch. It was nice to be able to eat at a cafeteria and enjoy a meal at an affordable price.

In 2012, Tokyo Denki University moved from Kanda to Kitasenju. The new campus looks like a stylish commercial facility, and the cafeteria is located in a new building with a spacious glass interior. To get there from Kitasenju Station, you pass the police box and arrive at Building 1, which houses Italian Tomato. Inside the main entrance, take the escalator up to the second floor and cross the pedestrian bridge to the adjacent building where the cafeteria is located. General public can also use the cafeteria without any issues. The cafeteria operates on a system where you purchase meal tickets in advance and the dishes are set as a meal, rather than choosing individual items. Prices are reasonable, with rice bowls and noodles in the 300 yen range, and set meals in the 400 yen range. The quality of the food is average, with a reliance on frozen ingredients, but for general use, it is a good value. Being located near the station, it is convenient for those transferring trains. However, it can get crowded during peak times, so it is better to visit outside of those times.

The pork cutlet curry costs 460 yen and the salad costs 120 yen, making a total of 580 yen. As always, it's a reasonable price at Leezna Bow (^<^). The pork cutlet curry seems to be freshly fried in the kitchen, as they say "please wait about 5 minutes for it to be fried." However, the cutlet is not sliced ('_'). It feels like it was carelessly thrown into the middle of the curry. The taste of the curry is not bad, but the handling of the cutlet seems too rough. The salad may look small, but it actually feels quite dense. The bacon chips in the salad were surprisingly the most delicious.

Even regular people can use it, I found out about it on TV Asahi's "Jun Sanpo" and went there a few days later at 3 pm. *Weekdays until 8 pm, Saturdays until 2 pm. Closed on Sundays. I used PASMO to buy a Den-Dai Plate Mix (1065kcal) for 480 yen and a croquette for 80 yen from the ticket machine. The Den-Dai Plate comes with ginger pork, chicken nanban, shredded cabbage, and rice. It's a lot of food for 480 yen! However, the ginger pork looks more like "beef and onion stir-fry" and the chicken nanban looks more like "deep-fried chicken". Overall, the seasoning is rough. The croquette is a simple type with a main ingredient of sweet potato, but I imagine it would be delicious if it was freshly fried. The cafeteria is bright and open with glass walls. It's a convenient space to read a book after eating without disturbing the students, especially if you go during a less busy time. It's quite reasonable compared to regular restaurants, and it might be a hidden gem for those who don't want to eat lunch exactly at 12 pm! Access from the station: There is a building with Italian Tomato Cafe Junior at the back of the North Exit Police Box of Kitasenju Station (Tokyo Denki University Building 1). Enter from the left entrance, pass the reception on the right, and there is an escalator. Go up to the second floor, turn around, and go to the back. Pass through two automatic doors. After crossing the skywalk that Jun-chan also walked on, you will find the cafeteria on the right. Flow in the cafeteria: Buy a meal ticket at the ticket machine right in front of the cafeteria (only PASMO can be used on the right ticket machine). Go to the kitchen corner on the left after entering the cafeteria. Take a tray and hand over the ticket. (There are chopsticks and spoons near the stacked trays) Pick up the food, put it on the tray, and take it to your preferred seat. There is a hot water dispenser next to the kitchen where you can choose tea, hot water, or cold water. There are condiments next to it, so don't forget if you need them. However, only mayonnaise is placed at the end where you receive the food (on the counter). After finishing your meal, take the tray to the return counter at the back right of the kitchen. There is a rack for trays, but chopsticks and napkins should be put in a separate container in front of you. *I was politely refused a cash order after entering, so make sure to choose carefully at the beginning without having to go back to the ticket machine.
