I stopped by after a long time since I was nearby. It was in the evening, but they still had a good selection of bread, and I was able to get the bread I was looking for. In addition to my usual choice, I also tried a baguette for the first time here, and it was delicious! It was quite thick, with a hard crust on the outside and a soft, fluffy inside. I really liked it.

When I visited on Sunday evening, unfortunately my top choice bread was sold out. So, I ended up getting a variety of seasonal and regular bread for my family. The new items for me this time were the Cheesecake Stick and the seasonal limited edition Francois and White Chocolate Danish. The Cheesecake was not too sweet and moist, which I really liked. The Francois had a nice balance between the acidity and sweetness of the white chocolate, and even though it was a Danish, it didn't crumble at all thanks to the white chocolate coating. I was really happy with this!

The ranking of popularity is written and helpful. Popular items include the Maple French Toast for 260 yen and the limited edition Yamanecko's Mii for 260 yen. The Mii has a little bit of chocolate cream inside and is prioritized for its cuteness. The Maple French Toast is so delicious that I want to eat it again.

It's really delicious, but it doesn't seem to be that popular. At the Kichijoji store, the top 5 popular items have tags next to their names, but the tea bread didn't have one. Hmm. It seems like people don't have a good eye for it. Or maybe it's their taste buds. However, there was a discreet note saying "Recommended by the producer". Ah, the producer knows best which bread is delicious. Wonderful. So, I had my eldest daughter and son try it, but they said it was "just delicious". It's not just delicious, though. Oh well, it's delicious anyway, so it's fine.

I had the Toast Sandwich Set for 550 yen at "DONQ" in Kichijoji. It's a cafe located on the 1st floor of the east building of the station building Atre. I used it to adjust my schedule for a blood donation appointment at 10 a.m. The sandwich had ham, tomato, lettuce, and a thin omelette-like layer. It came with a mini salad, making it a healthy choice. The iced coffee was a bit bitter, but it went well with the set. The seating area faces the corridor, so it can feel a bit noisy, but it's fine for a quick visit.

Today, I took advantage of my day off to visit Kichijoji. Kichijoji is a desirable town that always ranks high in the "Best Places to Live" rankings. The reason for its popularity is its good transportation access, abundance of shops and restaurants, and rich natural surroundings. The convenient commercial facility directly connected to the station, "Kichijoji Ron Ron," has been replaced by "Kichijoji Atre." After strolling through Inokashira Park and window shopping, I returned to Atre Kichijoji and found a Donq Atre Kichijoji store. Donq, established in 1905, is a long-standing bakery that continues to walk alongside Japan's bread history, celebrating its 116th anniversary this year. The name "Donq" comes from the founder's personality, which resembled the determined Don Quixote. I purchased the following items: - Bacon Epi (314 yen): A bread wrapped with bacon seasoned with black pepper, shaped like a wheat ear. The bread was surprisingly soft, I prefer it a bit crunchier to make my jaw work more. - Teriyaki Chicken and Egg Salad (260 yen): Sweet and savory teriyaki chicken sandwiched with lettuce. - Curry Brust (389 yen): The pork frank was crispy and juicy, with a subtle curry flavor that was very delicious. Thank you for the meal.

It is convenient that the bakery near the station opens early in the morning. When I arrived before 8 o'clock, there weren't many breads available yet, but they had sandwiches. I bought a sandwich for lunch. Very grateful.

This rather plain pastry doesn't have a lot of flair. It's not overly sweet, and it doesn't have fruits or chocolate on top, but it's surprisingly delicious. I've never had it with tea, but I have a feeling it would go well together. It's quite simple compared to other fancy pastries, and the fact that it's priced at around 100 yen before tax is a nice touch. I always wish they would promote it more as a flagship product. I hope it doesn't disappear from the lineup, so I savored every bite.

Every time there is an opportunity, I insist that "Tea Time is the best", but it doesn't seem to get through. The display location at the store has also been moved to a quiet place. On this day, I compared it with something that seemed Christmassy, but Tea Time was overwhelmingly delicious. Oh, I want to eat Tea Time in the dining hall. I think it would be the ultimate dessert if you put unsweetened whipped cream on top. I hope they will sell it as the 2021 model.

There is a nationwide bakery chain known for its consistent taste. However, the prices are a bit on the higher side. If you get carried away and buy too much, it can end up being quite expensive and lead to regret. On this particular day, I felt a bit of regret as well, but the last pastry I had, called "Tea Time," was incredibly delicious. It was moist, slightly sweet, and had a strong tea aroma. It was a flavor I hadn't really experienced before, but I really liked it. I could eat as many as I wanted. Next time, I'll buy in bulk. I wonder why I can't find it when I search for "Tea Time." Maybe the name is different?

Recommended for when you want to have a quick lunch. I recommend aiming for times when there are empty seats. Usually, around 1pm, the peak time has passed. I ordered the half & half sandwich set, which includes half portions of fried chicken and croquette. It comes with a small salad, rusk, and a drink. Good value for the price! However, this sandwich set is popular, so it may be sold out later in the day. The quiche set is also recommended. However, the quiche is not pre-cut, so it may be a bit difficult to eat. There is also a cascool? set available, which is a French bread sandwich set. I haven't tried this yet for some reason, but it always seems to be available. They also offer muffin sets depending on the time of day, so if there are empty seats, it could be a hidden gem for taking a break.

I visited Donk-san! I knew that they are famous for their croissants near the station, but the atmosphere here with a café attached is different! They offer morning and lunch sets, but you can also have the bread you bought from the bakery warmed up and eat it here! The store has a wide variety of bread, from simple classic white bread, to traditional French bread, pastries, and seasonal strawberry bread. It's always exciting to come here! I have a friend who is a picky eater but surprisingly eats a lot, and they love baguettes, so they bought a whole one and used the café. The staff asked if they wanted it sliced, and how many slices they wanted, and even offered a takeout bag. My friend declined, saying they would probably finish it all. I ordered a hot coffee and the most popular item, the maple French bread! When I mentioned I would be using the café, they immediately asked if I wanted it sliced or warmed up, and quickly baked it in the oven. The bread was perfectly warm by the time the coffee was ready! The aroma was enhanced, and it became even fluffier! The crust of the French bread had a crunchy texture, while the inside was soft and moist, with a sweet and delicious egg filling in the middle. It was a delightful start to the day! The sugar-induced happiness level was like having a hot cake for breakfast. The French bread was hard and substantial, so it was quite satisfying. The coffee was also delicious. My friend, who is particular about coffee, enjoyed it as well. It was a perfect match with the sweet bread, and my friend finished it all quickly. We also had croissants, which were delicious! The location is convenient, right outside the station, and they are open early in the morning, making it very convenient. Thank you for the meal!

The Donk on the 1st floor of Atre Kichijoji has an eat-in space, and from 7:30 to 10:00 they offer a morning menu. There are 3 options: toast, croissant, and sandwich. You can also purchase bread separately, and pairing it with a blend coffee for 250 yen is a good option. Today, I chose the "Croissant Set" for 495 yen, which was 40 yen cheaper than ordering items separately. The large croissant was crispy, although it would have been better if they warmed it up slightly. It came with a small salad. The blend coffee had a nice bitterness to it. Yesterday, I realized the impact of the 10% tax increase when I checked my receipt. The weekday morning time is relaxed and convenient for use.

I finished my morning errands in Kichijoji by myself and went to have breakfast at a bakery. It is located on the first floor of Atre Higashikan, and they also have a cafe space. I ordered the "Thick Toast Set" at the separate counter from the bakery. I received my drink and a plate for exchange first. After a while, the kitchen staff brought a basket with salad and toast. The toast was really thick and fluffy, soaked with plenty of butter. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Visited around 1 pm on a regular afternoon. The cafes around the Kichijoji station building are usually crowded at this time, but this one is located in the Atre Higashikan and was not too busy, so I was able to sit down quickly. - Lunch menu has 3 options, all priced at 648 yen which is reasonable. You can order a lunch set at the eat-in counter. They also have a selection of bread for takeout, which you can also eat inside. I ordered the quiche set on this day. The salad was small with mainly lettuce, sliced bell peppers, and a light olive-based dressing, enough for about 3 bites. The dessert was like a rusk-style baguette with maple syrup, more like bread than dessert (laughs), about 4 pieces. As for the main quiche, it was of bakery quality! The crispy and moist thin pie crust paired well with the smooth and creamy egg and cream-based filling. It was delicious and satisfying, with no cheapness at all. - Weekday lunchtime is a hidden gem with mostly solo or pairs of customers, and since it's inside Atre, you can use Wi-Fi and relax. The French toast with plenty of maple syrup on the baguette looked delicious, so I plan to choose it for takeout next time and enjoy it slowly.

Donk, a bakery in Kichijoji that I often visit. It is located under the elevated tracks of Kichijoji Station, towards Nishi-Ogikubo. You can find it on the 1st floor of Atre. The bakery also has an eat-in space which is quite spacious, and it's actually a hidden gem for breakfast. Donk offers consistently delicious bread, although it may not be mind-blowing, it's worth the price and you can't go wrong with any choice. On this visit, I bought a cheese bread and had it for breakfast the next day. After heating it up for about 20 seconds, the cheese aroma was delightful and it tasted delicious! The bread itself was soft and chewy. Personally, I prefer Donk's savory bread over sweet bread, so I highly recommend trying those. I'll definitely try something different next time!

There were various spring-themed breads at Donk in Kichijoji. Strawberry Daifuku Bread: The dough was chewy and it tasted just like a large strawberry daifuku! The strawberries were fresh. Chocolate Bread: Rich chocolate flavor, similar to a gateau chocolat! Strawberry Bread: The dough was fluffy! It had both strawberry cream and strawberry jam inside. The seeds were made of chocolate chips, adding a nice touch. Strawberry Scone: The strawberry jam filling made it very easy to eat.

As mentioned by the previous reviewer, this chain has a history of over 100 years. While they have not always sold the exact same items, I wonder if there is something that gives off that sense of history at this store. I also thought about the benefits of an all-scratch bakery like the one in Nishifunabashi – perhaps the simplicity of the bread is what makes it great? However, it's surprisingly difficult to achieve. The croissant is crispy with a buttery aroma and a fluffy texture. When you bite into it, you can really taste the wheat. I can't recall the name, but the salty item with layers is exactly what I was aiming for – a simple bread. It's not too moist, but when you chew it, you can feel the fine texture and density of the flour. The cheese France, as I'll call it, is also simple yet delicious. The flavor of the flour really stands out with this level of seasoning. So far, all the bread at this store seems to have a fine texture and a dense weight, which is probably due to the characteristics of the flour. I still don't know how the benefits of an all-scratch bakery will manifest in the flavors, but I'll keep these tastes in mind as I visit the next store. It reminds me of another bakery I once visited, although it may not necessarily be due to the all-scratch method, but rather the common elements of flour and yeast.
