HUB located at Kichijoji South Exit. It is part of the 82ALE HOUSE chain. It is a very popular Irish PUB that is widely spread not only in Tokyo but also in the Kanto, Chubu, and Kansai regions. On Friday evening, it's T.G.I.F! (Thank God! It's Friday!) My senior colleague invited me to go as he had a 10% OFF ticket that was about to expire. Around 8:00 pm on Friday night, Kichijoji is bustling with young people. The HUB was not packed, but several young people were drinking inside, including some foreigners. The atmosphere is truly that of a Pub. I started with a HUB Ale 1 pint for 890 yen, while my senior had a draft beer 1 pint for 690 yen. A pint is about 473ml. It feels like a big mug. The ale beer had a good aroma. It reminded me of my working holiday in New Zealand. Back there, a 300ml mug cost NZ$3, which is about 300 yen. So, it seems a bit pricey here. A few years ago, when I was drinking with a U.S. Air Force sergeant at HUB in Shinjuku Nishiguchi, he also mentioned that this place is a bit expensive. But well, the satisfaction level is high, so it's okay. We had bite-sized fish & chips for 580 yen. The fish & chips at HUB are quite tasty. We also snacked on popcorn while drinking beer. By the way, in New Zealand, Australia, and as I heard, even in the UK, they hardly eat while drinking. The reason is simple. Eating makes you gain weight. But they do eat huge cheeseburgers as their final meal, though. Recently, casual bars and standing bars have become popular, but if you think about it, Pubs seem cool, but in reality, they are just regular bars where old guys hang out (laughs). Because Pub = Public = for the general public. Here, you can have a beer and a snack and then head home quickly, which is nice. They also show UK Premier League matches on TV and play UK rock music, so if you like the UK, be sure to stop by.
