Located on the second floor of a building just a short walk south from the south exit of Hibarigaoka Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line, this izakaya is open until 3 am, making it a valuable option for late-night dining in the area. The interior can accommodate large groups for parties, while solo diners can sit at the counter. The menu features a variety of fish dishes, with the daily recommended special being a Choshi-sourced fatty sardine sashimi for 480 yen. The sashimi platter with scallop, tuna, and young yellowtail for 980 yen, however, may not offer the best value for money. The quality is decent, but not exceptional. On the other hand, the fatty sardine sashimi is a standout with its rich flavor and melt-in-your-mouth texture. Other fish dishes like the fried young ayu and fried small horse mackerel are also delicious and reasonably priced. The menu changes daily based on the availability of fresh fish, but there are also regular items like beef tendon simmered in miso and fried green sea lettuce. The selection of sake includes about nine different brands, with prices ranging from 750 yen to 950 yen per glass. The izakaya's late-night hours and variety of fish dishes make it a convenient option for those looking for a place to eat and drink in the Hibarigaoka area.

I went to have dinner and decided to go to Fish Tarou, a nearby place where I can drink alcohol. Even though it was just before opening time, they kindly let us in. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice. Since we arrived early, it wasn't crowded. We sat in a tatami room, but since it wasn't partitioned, I think it might be a bit uncomfortable when it gets crowded. The chairs were properly separated. Two types of appetizers were served: bamboo shoots and a salad with chicken. The original "Oyaji" salad had a blue fish canned on top, which was delicious. It was my first time trying something like that. It was a bit rich for a salad, but I recommend it. The yakitori was okay. The assorted skewers (6 types of sauce) included chicken thigh, green onion, tsukune, shiso roll, skin, and liver. We also ordered pork wrapped tomato and salted soft bone separately. The sauce was good, but the saltiness was a bit off. Sometimes it was a bit cold... The squid fisherman's grill was stir-fried squid and vegetables with cotton. Be careful if you order this last, it can be overwhelming. Other dishes like blackthroat seaperch and chicken skin dumplings were also delicious. I ordered a kabosu honey sour for drinks. The taste was more sour than sweet. My sister's orange juice seemed a bit weak. We took a break and realized there was no dessert on the menu! I was disappointed because I always like to have something sweet at the end of a meal. I felt a bit unsatisfied when leaving the restaurant. The most delicious thing was probably the appetizers. Now that I look at the menu on other websites, it seems there was something called "Shiratama Cream Azuki" which I wanted to try. I didn't see it on the menu, so I regret not asking about it. Overall, it was neither good nor bad. If there are other restaurants, I might visit them instead.

From the outside, I was wondering what it would be like, but when I went in, surprisingly (sorry to say) it was full of customers! Families were particularly noticeable. The menu is cheap!!!! There is a wide variety of seafood. There are also many dishes that go well with sake! And the alcohol is also cheap! Even though my wallet is feeling lonely. But I want to drink. At times like that, definitely go here. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is not the best, but it's not a big deal when you're chatting, and you can surprisingly stay for a long time.

It's annoying to pay over 500 yen for a drink in the city center that is expensive and not delicious. (Well, if Japanese sake or beer is properly managed, it's mostly the same everywhere, but chu-hi drinks are honestly hit or miss.) This place doesn't have many of those kinds of drinks. Most of the appetizers are under 500 yen, so even if you drink a lot, it won't cost you a lot. The appetizers are also homemade and great. (I really feel like it's worth paying for such appetizers. We didn't order a lot of food because it's for a second round, but if the appetizers are made like this, I think all of them are good enough.) Experience rating: 3.2. (July 1, 2006)
