I was heading from Ueno to Osaki, planning to eat at a soba restaurant inside Gate City in Osaki instead of in my local Ueno. However, I ended up wandering into this place right in front of me as soon as I exited the ticket gate. I waited outside for about 5 minutes before entering. I ordered the limited edition hamachi tempura soba with extra noodles for 920 yen, plus an inari sushi for 90 yen, totaling 1,010 yen. It was served quickly, and I added some tempura flakes before heading to the register. I sat at a window seat for one person. In the middle, there was a table for about 8 people to stand and eat. Along the right wall, there were tables for two people, which was a clever layout. A table for two opened up just in time for me, so I sat there. Even though it was a busy time, there were plenty of seats available, so I was able to enjoy my meal at a leisurely pace. The cold dipping soup was refreshing, the noodles had a strong texture, and I squeezed lemon juice, added plenty of shichimi and ground sesame, and even added grated ginger halfway through before finishing the meal. I just found out that there is also a branch inside Ueno Station! I've only been living here for less than half a year, so there's still a lot about Ueno that I don't know.

Located across from the north ticket gate of Osaki Station, this udon restaurant seems to be one of the top 15 udon shops in Kagawa. I ordered the large serving of kake udon for 520 yen. Since it's not a ticket system, ordering can be a bit nerve-wracking. The noodles were a bit soft, but the broth was delicious. The large serving wasn't overly generous, so I finished it easily. It was delicious.

I visited Osaki, a town that felt familiar yet unfamiliar to me. I have been here a few times for work, but I can't remember what kind of work it was. On this day, I had work again. Before starting work, I decided to boost my energy by eating udon at a noodle shop run by an old man right in front of Osaki Station. It's a convenient place to have a quick meal with Sanuki udon. I ordered cold udon and bukkake udon. While waiting, I chose tempura, opting for chicken and conger eel tempura slightly larger than a ping pong ball. I thought it was rare to find conger eel tempura at an udon shop. The udon that arrived was beautiful, topped with a lemon which added a stylish touch. The thick udon noodles had corners and a hollow center. The hollow center provided a change in texture and enhanced the firmness of the noodles. I mixed it well with the dipping sauce. The udon was stretchy with a good texture and flavor. Squeezing the lemon changed the taste and added a refreshing touch. The conger eel tempura was slightly warm, perhaps due to a heat lamp. Although the batter was prominent, the flavor of the conger eel was still noticeable. I thought it would be nice to have plum paste or salt, but the natural flavor of the conger eel was enjoyable on its own. The chicken tempura seemed to have a lower temperature than the conger eel tempura, but it still had a juicy taste. I thought the lower temperature allowed the juices to be retained in the meat. There seem to be a few shops near JR stations, but this was the first time I saw one at Osaki Station. It left an impression that you can have Sanuki udon at Osaki Station.

I visited "Oyaji no Seimenjo" in JR Osaki Station early on a Saturday morning for the first time! They are advocating for a "mago way of eating". It's important to be mindful of what you eat for breakfast! However, with just the morning udon set, you can only get the "mago" part! The udon has a good texture, but it's a bit questionable if it's Sanuki udon! It's smooth and delicious!

I avoid expensive hotel breakfast and look for a cheaper option. I found a self-service udon restaurant inside the station building that is open early in the morning. It seems to be operated by JR Shikoku's food division (a separate company). The atmosphere of the restaurant is very casual. You start by choosing the type and portion of udon, then add your favorite tempura toppings and pay at the cashier. You can also add toppings like tenkasu and green onions before enjoying your meal at your seat. Finally, you return your dishes to the return counter before leaving. The udon was delicious, but as someone from Shikoku, I can tell that the noodles were not freshly hand-made. It's impossible to demand that at this time in Tokyo, but in Kagawa, it's a common expectation at udon shops. The difference lies in the freshness of the noodles and the chewy texture. Despite that, being able to eat Sanuki udon at this price during this time is a blessing. (^▽^)/

I visited a Sanuki udon restaurant located across from the north exit ticket gate at Osaki Station for the first time. Instead of buying a meal ticket, you order at the counter on the right as soon as you enter, receive your udon on a tray, and then pay at the front register. It seems like a good idea to decide on your order after looking at the menu outside before entering. I was torn between having it with broth or without, but I wanted to savor the broth, so I chose the kake kitsune udon. The broth I was expecting was slightly sweet with a subtle aroma, and the chewy texture of the Sanuki udon was not as great as I had hoped.

I stayed at a business hotel and had udon for breakfast. The restaurant opened 5 minutes ago and already more than 60% full. I had cold udon with red ginger tempura and bamboo ring tempura in a soup with a gentle and flavorful fish broth. The noodles had a good balance of firmness. The red ginger tempura was refreshing and really woke me up. I wish there was a restaurant like this near my local station!

This is a story from a little while ago, but for lunch on February 27th (Monday), I went to this restaurant in Osaki for work. It's called "Oyaji no Seimenjo" Osaki branch. The store is right in front when you come out of the Osaki station ticket gate, so you can't miss it. I decided to go for the daily lunch set (tax included 550 yen) as it seemed like a good deal. After ordering, I received my food and paid. I topped it with fried tempura bits and sprinkled plenty of shichimi pepper, because that's a must for udon. First, I tried the broth. Slurp, slurp. Mmm, delicious! The udon broth is the best with iriko fish stock. Next, I tried the noodles. Slurp, slurp, slurp. Mmm, delicious! The texture is unique to Sanuki udon. The tempura bits were essentially like a kitsune udon. And it's free, such generosity. The mayo chicken bowl. It's not in the picture, but the mayo comes in a small packet for you to add yourself. It looks like they simply put fried chicken on top of rice, without any sauce on the rice. The fried chicken is just average. But with the rice soaked in udon broth, it's just perfect. I gulped down the rice soaked in broth. Phew, finished eating. With this taste and portion size at this price, the cost performance is definitely good. I left the restaurant very satisfied. The end.

I tried the udon restaurant in front of Osaki Station, as it was advertised as Sanuki udon. I ordered the Wakame udon, which used Naruto-grown wakame seaweed. I was pleasantly surprised by the generous amount of wakame in the dish. The udon itself was chewy.

This is a revisit. The cost performance is excellent as always. Of course, not only the cost performance but also the taste is delicious and the portion size is satisfying. I forgot to take a photo, but I had the lunch set here. The bowl alone was satisfying in size.

It is located right outside the ticket gates of Osaki Station. This was my first visit. It was nice that it was not crowded since it was already 2:00 pm. I ordered the popular menu item, beef with onsen egg. Even though it's very hot outside, I chose warm udon to prevent summer fatigue. This time, since it had beef, I thought the broth was a bit strong. It felt like the flavor of the meat had seeped in. However, the udon itself was very firm and satisfying to eat, which was good. Next time, I want to order a different menu item to experience the taste of the broth.

I also found a Sanuki udon restaurant at JR Ueno Station, so I thought it was the same shop. It's just delicious. Speaking of Sanuki udon, the broth is not made with 100% dried baby sardines, but it seems to be a mixed broth. It's quite difficult to find Sanuki udon with 100% dried baby sardine broth in the Kanto region. Although it's not made with 100% dried baby sardines, the broth is very delicious. The udon is also quite tasty. The kake udon is priced at ¥300, and you can add as many tempura flakes as you like. It's cheap, delicious, and quick, hitting all the right notes. Just note that there is no seating area for standing, as it's located outside the Osaki Station ticket gates, providing a different level of convenience compared to inside Ueno Station. I will definitely use it again.

Enjoy the "Limited 30 servings" Oroshi Fair until the end of May, where you can savor the fresh "Daikon Oroshi"! When you order the "Toriten Shoyu", you will receive a special delivery of "Udon" directly from Kagawa Prefecture, along with daikon and a grater! This fair features a groundbreaking system where you grate the daikon yourself. Grate plenty of daikon, drizzle some dashi soy sauce, squeeze lemon, and enjoy the refreshing and smooth texture. The citrus acidity is perfect for stimulating your appetite in the approaching hot weather. The juicy chicken thigh pieces complement the dish well. As a side dish, the classic "Croquette and Inari" topping is a must. It was delicious!

I went to an udon restaurant near Osaki Station's ticket gate and ordered a kake udon for 300 yen. It was called Sanuki udon, but it was just a typical udon. When I asked for tempura crumbs, they added them in. Many udon chain restaurants offer unlimited tempura crumbs, but this place did not. I thought it would be more convenient to offer unlimited tempura crumbs since it doesn't cost much. The broth was light in color and Kansai-style, giving it a Sanuki udon-like taste.

I came to this udon restaurant located right outside the station gates because I wanted to try it out. I ordered a set of udon and a mini rice bowl. The tempura wasn't freshly fried, so I soaked it in the soup before eating. Despite being usually crowded, the cost performance was excellent. As I finished eating and was about to leave, one of the company executives casually walked out. It felt a bit awkward, but I quickly forgot about it as I was satisfied and in a good mood. Thank you for the meal.

I visited because they had a dish called "mixed udon"! They seem to have revamped their meat menu and are particular about it! Meat miso mixed udon for 680 yen - it comes with tempura bits and a choice of sweet miso, mild spicy, or spicy miso. The tempura bits add volume to the dish!

On August 11, 2021, I revisited this restaurant alone after a long time. It is a Sanuki udon specialty store operated by JR East Japan Foods Co., Ltd. The location is excellent, right in front of the Osaki Station ticket gate. Upon entering, you pick up your ordered udon on a tray at the counter, use tongs to take tempura, and pay at the register at the end, all self-service. The interior has counter seats on the left, standing eating counters in the middle, and two-person table seats on the right. The dish I had was the "Sudachi Bukkake" (380 yen)… I enjoyed the standard Sudachi udon served cold with a thick broth, topped with Sudachi and green onions, with complimentary tempura bits. The broth was rich but refreshing with the Sudachi. As for the udon itself, although they are said to be imported from Sanuki, they lack the characteristic sharp edges of authentic Sanuki udon. The "Toriten" (180 yen)… The tempura, which was disappointingly served in plastic bags during the beginning of the pandemic, was still thick, tough, and oil-soaked, making it quite heavy. It was a letdown. The "Beni Shoga Ten" (150 yen)… The batter was thinner, and the pickled ginger was large and impactful. Perhaps it would be better if it was freshly fried. *All prices mentioned are tax-inclusive. [What's Great!] Nothing in particular. [Hope it Could Be Better…] Nothing in particular. I have eaten a lot of Sanuki udon due to having a friend from Kagawa Prefecture, but this one feels different. The udon lacks the desired firmness, and the worst part is the pre-fried tempura. It retains too much oil and becomes heavy and greasy as time passes. Unfortunately, I probably won't revisit this place.

When I see the words "Direct delivery from Kagawa," I can't help but stop by. Located in front of Osaki Station North Exit, is Otosan no Seimenjo, a noodle shop that uses Sanuki udon noodles from Meirikenya, a udon restaurant in Kagawa that is operated by JR Shikoku. Expectations are high due to the involvement of JR Shikoku. While sudachi is typically associated with Tokushima Prefecture, this collaboration is intriguing given JR Shikoku's involvement. The udon is topped with sudachi. I will be having soy sauce udon. The tempura bits are a special blend with added green seaweed. I will also have chicken tempura. The noodles are slightly softer compared to the firmest noodles from the hometown, but the aroma of the noodles can be enjoyed thoroughly, as expected from Sanuki direct delivery noodles. I will squeeze the half-sized sudachi tightly, pour dashi soy sauce evenly over the grated daikon radish, and mix it around the bowl. The refreshing scent of sudachi and the dashi soy sauce, which is a gift from the Seto Inland Sea, lightly flavor the udon. After finishing the udon, I will eat the chicken tempura. I will drizzle a little dashi soy sauce and enjoy the tender texture of the chicken breast, which has a different texture from the udon, making for a satisfying tempura. Inside the restaurant, there were large posters of tourism event trains, indicating the involvement of JR Shikoku. Otosan no Seimenjo is a valuable spot where you can experience the atmosphere of Shikoku in Tokyo, not just Sanuki udon. Thank you, Otosan no Seimenjo!

After exiting the north exit ticket gate of Osaki Station, it's right in front of you. Ordering, receiving, and paying all smoothly in a few minutes. Perhaps it's because of the current situation, but they confirm if you want tempura when you order and then serve it. The udon had a firm texture and a satisfying bite. The green onions and lemon were very refreshing. Perfect for the upcoming season.

I was a little disappointed that they no longer had raw soy sauce on the menu. The noodles are delicious, but I feel like there aren't any menu options that allow you to fully enjoy the noodles themselves. I had the Oroshi Bukkake Daikon for 550 yen plus a raw egg for 70 yen for flavor enhancement. I would prefer a sauce that is sweeter, with raw soy sauce and served cold. Thank you for the meal.
