Fish shop with a cook, Master Kazuya-ya, located in Kokubunji, Tokyo, is the branch of Kazu-ya where you can enjoy delicious fish dishes. It opened on July 19, 2019, but had to close for 3 months due to the coronavirus. Before that, it was only open for dinner, but since July 2020, they have started serving lunch as well. They have taken proper measures against the coronavirus. I have been to the Higashi-Koganei branch a few times and really liked it, so I was eager to visit this branch. Finally, I had the opportunity to have lunch there. It is located on the second floor of a building right next to the Seiyu supermarket on Daigaku-dori, just northeast of Kokubunji Station on the JR Chuo Line. When you go up the stairs, the entrance is on the left. The first thing you see is the showcase of fish. You order and pay at the register in advance. On the left side, there is an open kitchen and a counter with six seats made of natural wood, while on the right side, there are table seats with a raised floor and a kotatsu-style seating area. There are a total of 45 seats, divided into three sections, so it doesn't feel crowded. When you sit at the counter, you will see a mountain of bone senbei in front of you. The menu includes enticing sashimi such as nodoguro, hata, new sanma, fufukidai, and hirame, as well as grilled fish like kinmedai, kamaboko, anago, and new sanma, as well as inaniwa udon. They also have a wide selection of alcoholic beverages. The menu is similar to the Higashi-Koganei branch. For lunch, they offer four options: negitoro seafood marinated rice bowl, negitoro bowl, deluxe seafood bowl, and eel bowl. I chose the deluxe seafood bowl for 1,280 yen including tax. You can choose from regular, small, or large rice portions, and I chose regular. In the center, there is a rare seared tuna brain, chutoro, octopus, abalone, horse mackerel, sanma, hirame, ikura, nakaochi, golden eye snapper, and tamagoyaki elegantly arranged. However, this is just the first impression! The amount of seafood that keeps coming out is amazing. If you choose the regular rice portion, you may run out of rice because there is so much seafood. It was quite impressive. At this price, including abalone, it feels like a great deal. The taste is, of course, excellent! The side dish is chilled tofu, and the miso soup is a very rich fish head soup. Finally, I accidentally knocked over the counter menu, and the remaining miso soup spilled on the tray, dirtying the menu. The staff immediately came over, cleaned up quickly, and were more concerned about my clothes (which were fortunately unharmed) than the menu. I was impressed by their hospitality. There were two male staff members, both extremely friendly. After the meal, as I was the only one at the counter, we had a lively conversation about the local cuisine of Kokubunji. When I asked about the table seats as I was leaving, they kindly showed me around. With this layout, it seems like even groups can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. This is a restaurant where I would like to visit for dinner as well, not just for lunch.
