I visited at 6:00 p.m. on a weekday. Located about a 3-minute walk from JR "Tenma Station," in a back alley of Tenjinbashi-suji 4-chome, this restaurant is a recognized powerhouse selected as one of the "Top 100 Okonomiyaki Restaurants on Tabelog for 2023" (continuously awarded since 2018). In November 2022, it was even ranked first in the Kansai region on the show "Magic Restaurant: Truly Delicious Okonomiyaki in the Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe Area." Established in 1949, the interior of the restaurant with 46 seats has an atmosphere that feels like a time warp back to the Showa era. With a kitchen staff of 2 and 3 staff members for customer service (wearing black polo shirts and green aprons), the restaurant was bustling with a well-organized operation. This time, I ordered the "Chigusa-yaki 1,100 yen" listed on the menu. Here is the content and evaluation: Chigusa-yaki 1,100 yen: Using premium pork loin, this is the signature dish since the establishment's founding. When you choose this dish, the staff will cook it for you. The characteristic is to sandwich pork loin between a well-mixed batter of eggs, green onions, red pickled ginger, and tenkasu, and steam it while grilling it. It is cooked slowly on a well-maintained iron plate, taking about 9 minutes. When the edges become slightly crispy, it is turned over for the first time, and then grilled for another 4 minutes before being turned over again. After waiting for about 2 minutes, the thick Chigusa-yaki is ready! Enjoying it hot with okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and sesame seeds gives a classic taste that is very satisfying! Popular okonomiyaki restaurant. I arrived at 11:10 AM when they open at 11 AM, and it was already full. I waited for about 30 minutes to get a seat, and there were over 10 people waiting behind me. I ordered the Chanpon Modern style okonomiyaki. This restaurant has a self-cooking system, which was fun. When it was ready, they also provided mayonnaise and mustard. It was delicious.

I have never eaten such delicious okonomiyaki before... It's no wonder that this okonomiyaki restaurant recommended by local friends is so good. The okonomiyaki is very tasty, but the yakisoba is also delicious, so you definitely have to try it. Osaka's okonomiyaki is truly amazing.

It was a popular restaurant where you could make reservations. The restaurant is open from 11:00 to 21:30, so if you go at off-peak times, you can sometimes get in without waiting in line. The okonomiyaki is cooked by the staff and seasoned perfectly. It was delicious!

It had been a while since I visited Osaka. After having a drink at a izakaya, I felt like eating okonomiyaki, so I decided to stop by Chigusa. It was around 4 pm, a bit of an odd time, but we were able to get a table easily. We ordered a bottle of beer, Chigusa-yaki, and a large portion of yakisoba. The yakisoba sauce was perfect and the noodles were chewy and delicious. For the Chigusa-yaki, the staff cooked it for us and it turned out to be amazing. We still had room for more, so we added grilled green onions and pork with grated yam. Everything was satisfying. Truly a great restaurant.

The popular restaurant Chigusa. I was lucky to get in quite quickly. Their specialty dish, Chigusa-yaki, is a style where pork is steamed and grilled with it in between. The staff will grill it for you until the end. The Mix-yaki (Modern-yaki) is a style where you grill it yourself. It was delicious! I wanted the noodles to be crispy, so I grilled them on top without putting them in between. I also had soft serve ice cream, which had a nostalgic taste and was delicious. The prices are reasonable, and I would love to visit this restaurant again. The person grilling the food was friendly and provided good service, making the experience enjoyable.

There was a person who didn't go inside but just took a commemorative photo, so I took a picture for them. Haha, it's a nostalgic and good okonomiyaki restaurant. Cash only. The pork in the pork okonomiyaki was thick! We also ordered scallops and small shrimp teppanyaki. It was delicious and light with soy sauce flavor. You could choose cabbage and green onions. It looks old but it's very cutting-edge. For drinks, they had bottled beer, highball, and whiskey highball. Thank you for the meal.

Upon arrival at around 7:00 PM, I was warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and quickly placed my order for the Senkusa-yaki priced at 1,100 yen. This unique okonomiyaki is made by sandwiching thick slices of premium pork loin between the okonomiyaki batter and grilling it on a hot plate. The cooking process is a bit longer due to the thickness of the meat. Once cooked, it is topped with sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, and even ketchup for added flavor. The finishing touch is a sprinkle of "sesame seeds" which are smaller than regular sesame seeds but add a unique texture. When I finally tasted it, I was pleasantly surprised by the juicy flavor of the thick pork loin combined with the sweet and tangy sauce and the slightly sweet batter. The absence of regular okonomiyaki toppings like nori and bonito flakes made the three flavors blend together perfectly. The portion size was slightly small, so I felt like I could have tried another menu item as well. I ordered Senkusa-yaki and Chanpon's Modern-yaki. The Senkusa-yaki was carefully grilled by the staff. It was cooked perfectly and when I tasted it, the fluffy texture with a firm chewiness was delightful. The generous amount of pork inside made a strong impression. I was very satisfied.

The restaurant opened at 11:00 AM, so I thought it would be fine to go right after opening. However, when I arrived 10 minutes late, there were already 5 groups in line. The inside of the restaurant is quite spacious, but it was already full, so it seems like people had been lining up since the morning! I waited for about 30 minutes to get in. The Chigusa-yaki is a type of okonomiyaki where pork loin is sandwiched between the okonomiyaki batter and steamed. The staff make everything for you. You cook the okonomiyaki yourself, and warm up the yakisoba that is already cooked on the griddle. Everything was delicious, and now I understand why there was a line! Having chu-hai and okonomiyaki for lunch was so tasty. The staff were very efficient, but it's still better to get in during the first round if possible, as they handle customers in order. A popular shop located down a narrow alley off the shopping street in Temma. The atmosphere is evident from the exterior curtain. It's been about 5 years since my last visit. It's always crowded, so it's hard to drop by. Today, I was bar hopping in Temma with a friend. We decided to peek into the shop and found no waiting. We entered immediately. The inside of the shop was extremely hot. Is that why it's empty? I debated leaving the shop because of the heat. We consulted and decided to just have the pork balls and yakisoba and then leave. The inside of the shop was incredibly hot. It was hot outside too, but the heat from the iron plate made the inside even hotter. I ordered a bottle of Asahi beer and endured. After a short wait, the yakisoba and pork balls arrived. They were indeed delicious in the traditional style. My friend and I agreed that if the food is this good in such high heat, it's worth it. However, the score is reduced due to the excessive heat inside the shop.

The Champon yakisoba and Champon okonomi were very delicious. The female staff was friendly and the cost performance was great. The only downside was that it was very hot inside due to the teppan, so I couldn't stop sweating. I would like to go back to eat there again when it cools down. Thank you for the meal.

Grilled Senkusa (¥1100) and draft beer (¥500). There is always a line at this place, but I was lucky to find no line this time so I went in. I ordered the famous Senkusa, which is a kind of okonomiyaki with pork loin cooked between the batter on a hot plate by the staff. It takes a bit of time for the cook to come around since the place is full. Senkusa is soft and not greasy, with the pork loin making it light. It's finished off with mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, and sauce, topped with poppy seeds. They say that Senkusa is not supposed to have bonito flakes or seaweed on top. The finely sliced cabbage is soft and fluffy, really delicious. I felt bad for the staff, but towards the end, I couldn't resist and added bonito flakes and seaweed. It was delicious. I visited the restaurant alone at 7:30 PM and was seated. They cook the meat by sandwiching it in the dough and steaming it instead of grilling it on a hot plate like okonomiyaki. The thick slices of pork provide a satisfying texture, and the sesame seeds add a unique touch. It was delicious in a normal way. Since I was dining alone, I only tried this dish and didn't get to try the yakisoba and other items on the menu that I wanted to try.

I recently tried going to a restaurant in Tenma for okonomiyaki since it's difficult to find in Minami. I decided to challenge myself and was able to get in without waiting too long. I went to Chigusa and enjoyed cooking my own okonomiyaki after a long time. The squid and egg okonomiyaki turned out delicious. The shrimp yakisoba was also tasty. I also ordered the specialty Chigusa yaki, where they cook thick premium pork loin steamed with katsu seeds sprinkled on top. I prefer crispy pork, so I didn't enjoy the steamed version as much, but the pork and egg okonomiyaki was better. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Osaka Series Part 1 First, I decided to go for okonomiyaki and chose a famous restaurant for lunch. I checked on Tabelog that it was listed as smoking allowed, but when I arrived, it had already become non-smoking. I visited around 12 pm on a Saturday and there were about 5 groups waiting in line. There was no need to sign up or anything, just line up in a narrow alley. I was called in after waiting for about 20 minutes. The turnover was fast. I ordered the specialty Chigusa-yaki and yakisoba. I also got a bottle of beer and a lemon chu-hi. While you have to cook the okonomiyaki yourself, the Chigusa-yaki is made by the staff, who steam-cook thick pork slices. The Chigusa-yaki is made by sandwiching pork slices with okonomiyaki ingredients and steaming them. For the final touch, they top it with mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, okonomiyaki sauce, and mustard seeds, creating a rich and delicious flavor that is truly unique to this place! The yakisoba was also delicious with a flavorful sauce. I also ordered the couple set with two eggs for the okonomiyaki, which was also tasty, but the Chigusa-yaki was the real star. The service at the restaurant was great, and for two people, we paid 4800 yen to enjoy the taste of Osaka, making it a highly satisfying experience! Thank you for the meal!

I felt like eating okonomiyaki, so I visited Mr. Chigusa here. It was lunchtime, but luckily there was one empty table. It was scorching hot, so I immediately ordered a bottle of beer! Delicious!! The okonomiyaki is a rare self-cooking style where you mix the ingredients in a bowl and cook it on the hot plate at your table. If you're not confident, the staff can do it for you! The specialty Chigusa-yaki has a large pork loin in the middle of the okonomiyaki, and the staff does all the seasoning for you. Instead of nori seaweed on top, it had bonito flakes. However, since one staff member was looking after multiple Chigusa-yaki on the tables, some of them ended up a bit burnt. I had plans to visit the Tenjinbashi Shopping Street in Osaka for sightseeing, so I looked it up in advance. I waited for about 4 groups, but decided to wait since I was already there. Once inside, the atmosphere of the shop was great, and I could really feel the essence of Osaka. The okonomiyaki was cooked by the staff, and being able to eat freshly cooked okonomiyaki right in front of me was a delight. I thought to myself, "I'm glad I came to Osaka." The staff were very friendly and seemed experienced in dealing with tourists, which was great. I would love to visit again!
