"I hope this becomes a summer staple." That's what I thought when I found curry-flavored and mango-flavored rusk at this store. Gâteau Festa Harada is a rusk specialty store, known for its simple flavors and relatively affordable prices per piece compared to other department stores. Personally, I had mostly received rusk as gifts and rarely bought it for myself until recently. However, on this day in July, as I passed by this store, I was immediately drawn to an intriguing product: Gout de Roy Sommelier Italian rusk, along with Gout de Roy Maharaja and Gout de Reine Tropical Mango. Maharaja is a curry-flavored rusk made with a chicken curry sauce blended with spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric, cardamom, and bay leaf, spread on a French bread slice, baked with butter, and finished with original spices. When I tried it, I found it to be mild and elegant, with a balanced spice profile reminiscent of North Indian butter chicken curry. Unlike other rusk from Western confectionery stores or even curry senbei from supermarkets or some Japanese confectionery stores, this one stood out. Tropical Mango, on the other hand, is a rusk with thinly sliced mango puree, mango and passion fruit cream, dried mango, and roasted coconut. Following the recommendation of the staff, I tried it chilled, and I was impressed by the crispy texture of the rusk, the tropical flavor of the cream, and the harmonious blend of mango pieces in my mouth. While I had rarely eaten rusk with sauce before, I believe most people would enjoy this unless they dislike mango. Lastly, Sommelier Italian is a rusk with basil, cheese, and tomato, reminiscent of a crispy Roman Margherita, making it a sophisticated appetizer for parties. Additionally, this store at Hankyu Department Store offers rusk with a Tigers color-themed packaging, perfect for Hanshin Tigers fans. Maharaja and Tropical Mango are both limited-edition summer products. If you're interested, be sure to visit your nearest Gâteau Festa Harada store soon.
