ハラミ串
【Overall】Located about a 2-minute walk from Hanazonocho Station in Osaka, this is a shop that specializes in takoyaki and grilled squid, tucked away on a small street off the main road. This time, I tried the takoyaki. The surface was crispy and fragrant, while the inside was soft and melty, with a rich dashi flavor. It was really delicious! A serving of 10 pieces costs 600 yen and comes with takoyaki soup and red and white pickled vegetables. Prices for food and drinks in Nishinari Ward are generally affordable, but this shop stands out for being both cheap and delicious, offering a satisfying meal.
After enjoying delicious oden at Marugome, I walked to the Hanazonocho/Haginotaya area. I was craving takoyaki, a must-have when in Osaka. Despite being full, I decided to indulge. The shop is located in a cluttered residential area in a narrow alleyway, giving off a typical Nishinari Ward vibe. The exterior features a red tent with "takoyaki" and "grilled squid" written in blue on the curtain. The large sign makes it easy to spot as a takoyaki shop. Inside, there are about 10 counter seats and two elderly female staff members. The menu offers various types of takoyaki and grilled squid, as well as beer, chuhai, and highball. I opted for the green onion takoyaki (10 pieces for 650 yen), recommended by the shop. The takoyaki was slightly larger than usual, with a crispy surface. The freshly cooked takoyaki was piping hot and melty inside, so I savored it slowly. The dashi flavor was rich and delicious. The green onions complemented the taste of the batter well. While I personally didn't feel the need for sauce, it's worth trying for a different flavor. Additionally, the takoyaki soup with takoyaki pieces and red and white pickled vegetables were served as a complimentary side. Essentially, it was like having 11 pieces of takoyaki. Quite impressive. The softened takoyaki in the soup was also very tasty. It's like adding tempura flakes to udon, but a deluxe version.
【Final Thoughts】I didn't expect to receive takoyaki soup and pickled vegetables for 650 yen. That's exceptional service! Although I didn't try it this time, the recommended way to eat it is with vinegar and shichimi pepper. It does seem like a good combination. The melty takoyaki with rich dashi is already delicious on its own, but the green onions add even more flavor, making it highly recommended. The total bill for today came to 650 yen. Thank you for the meal.
