On Sunday night, after drinking at Sushi Toy in Hoho, as I walked towards Hoho Station, I noticed the popular ramen shop, NewYork×NewYork. I had previously eaten ramen at their sister shop, Sakura Hoho in Kitano-da, and it was delicious, so I'm sure this place will be too. Even though I was already full, for some reason, after drinking, I always crave ramen. I was drawn into the shop like a magnet.
About the shop:
Located about a 3-minute walk south (towards Hoho Ario) from the east exit of JR Hoho Station, the shop has a cool black exterior with a yellow neon sign for the name. Inside, there is a ticket machine where you can purchase your ticket before entering. The interior is narrow, with only 6 seats at the counter facing the kitchen. It's quite a cozy little shop, and the atmosphere feels more like a trendy cafe than a ramen shop.
I ordered the Special Shoyu Ramen, which is one of four types of ramen they offer:
- Special Shoyu Ramen
- Chicken Ramen
- Chicken and Scallop Ramen
- Abura Soba
Except for the Abura Soba, you can add extra chashu and choose the "Special" option, which includes all the toppings. Since it was my first visit, I went with the base Special Shoyu Ramen, of course with the "Special" option.
While sipping on a highball, I waited for about 5 minutes before my Special Shoyu Ramen arrived. The presentation was lovely, with a large piece of rare roast pork garnishing the bowl like a flower.
Review of the Special Shoyu Ramen:
- Soup: A flavorful chicken broth with hints of seafood, and the shoyu flavor with a light acidity. It really hit the spot after a night of drinking.
- Noodles: A blend of Hokkaido wheat "Haruyutaka" and "Kitahonami," medium-thin straight noodles with a soft and chewy texture that paired well with the shoyu broth.
- Chashu: The large piece of rare shoulder loin chashu was moist, tender, and full of flavor.
- Menma: Thick and crunchy with a well-seasoned taste.
- Egg: Half-boiled with a creamy yolk, adding richness to the ramen.
Overall, the ramen was top-notch in terms of soup, noodles, and toppings. The rare chashu was a standout for me. Next time, I'd love to come when I'm not already full and try putting the chashu on rice. The "Special" option also means extra noodles, which made it quite a challenge to finish, but I managed to do so. Despite feeling very full and uncomfortable afterwards, I was satisfied to have enjoyed the ramen. Thank you for the meal!
