How are you spending Mountain Day on this Friday, August 11th? I have started my summer vacation today. I went on a pilgrimage to the "Solitary Gourmet" in Tokyo. I visited Shimo-Kitazawa, a stop on the Inokashira Line, which is the setting for Season 1 Episode 9. You can enjoy Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki and seafood teppanyaki here. Surprisingly, I got to eat at the seats of Matsushige Yutaka and Hisashi Masayuki, who appeared on the show. This time, I ordered a balanced meal of okonomiyaki and teppanyaki. The menu included Hiroshima-style green onion okonomiyaki, octopus herb butter teppanyaki, and oolong tea. I had been here before but only tried the okonomiyaki. This time, I tried the seafood teppanyaki for the first time. You can choose from three types of sauce for the teppanyaki: Hiroshima green onion & ponzu, garlic, and herb butter. I chose the herb butter sauce for the teppanyaki since the green onion was already in the okonomiyaki. It was a great experience to drink while watching the food cook on the teppan. The herb butter teppanyaki included zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, and perfectly cooked octopus. The vegetables and octopus were deliciously coated in the herb butter sauce. The main dish, the okonomiyaki, was loaded with green onions and the noodles were coated in sauce. The crunchy texture of the green onions and the sweetness of the cabbage made it very tasty. It was also delicious when I added mayonnaise for extra flavor. Even though it has been over 10 years since the "Solitary Gourmet" episode was aired, when I mentioned it at the cashier, they remembered that Matsushige Yutaka was seated there. I enjoyed not only the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki but also the seafood teppanyaki. The summer performance of Shimo-Kitazawa Hiroki Teppan Theater has come to a close. I wonder if I should come back for the winter season and try the oyster herb butter teppanyaki? I highly recommend trying it out. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Gourmet of Solitude Season 1 Episode 9 Pilgrimage Tour, second stop. Today is all about my favorite okonomiyaki. I'm excited as I head out in the morning. This shop doesn't take reservations, so I arrived just before 12 o'clock and waited outside. I was second in line 15 minutes before opening, but the line quickly grew behind me. Once they opened, I entered and saw tables in the front and a counter in the back. The seat where Gorō Inogashira sat was available, but it seemed to be for solo diners. We sat at Kyūjū-san's seat. I had studied what Gorō Inogashira had ordered before, but since oysters are only available from November, I couldn't order the same thing. Oh well, oysters will have to wait for another time! - Hiroshima Negi Ponzu (with shredded dried fish) - Squid & Shrimp with garlic flavor - Scallop with herb butter - Octopus with Hiroshima Negi and yuzu ponzu - Yam potato melt-in-your-mouth grill - Okonomiyaki with squid, shrimp, scallop, shiso (soba) - Beer - Lemon sour x3 - Highball x3 I might have ordered a lot as usual. But I finished everything. The octopus with Hiroshima Negi and ponzu was refreshing. The octopus chunks were surprisingly large. The seafood mix of squid, shrimp, and scallop was seasoned with garlic and herb butter, and included well-cooked vegetables. The sweet and fluffy sweet potato was particularly thick and delicious, adding a nice touch between the seafood. It was satisfying and had a good bite. ☆Today's recommendation☆ The yam potato melt-in-your-mouth grill was amazing. It included lily bulbs, ginkgo nuts, and pork, offering a variety of textures. It was so tender and fluffy. I finished it in an instant. I could eat many of these. It paired really well with the lemon sour. And finally, the main dish, the okonomiyaki. Was the Hiroki Special the best choice? Of course, it was soft and delicious. The shop was small, but everything was delicious. I definitely want to go back again.

I had the delicious Torotoro Yaki (melt-in-your-mouth grilled) Yam, Hiroki Special, and grilled Udon noodles. They all tasted really good. They paired well with sake, and I couldn't stop eating and drinking. The staff were attentive and made the experience enjoyable. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends.

I thought about what makes this place charming. I believe it's probably because it has a fluffier texture compared to the typical Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. It's natural to have to remove the water from the cabbage, but if you remove too much, it can become too dry. However, this place seems to have mastered the balance. In fact, even the squid tempura had a well-balanced texture. I think eating cabbage is a key part of Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. So, if the cabbage isn't prepared well, it won't taste good. That's probably why there's a growing divide in popularity. By the way... where did the lady go...? Thank you for the meal.

I visited this restaurant for the first time in six months. For lunch, I had the meatball soba with shrimp and squid tempura on top of okonomiyaki. The price was 1800 yen, which is quite expensive! Today, I sat at a table so I couldn't see them cooking. The squid tempura they use here is on the thinner side but they give you a generous amount. It adds a lot of flavor and makes the okonomiyaki delicious. I think having squid tempura as a topping is a must!

I visited around 19:30 and had to wait for about 20 minutes as it was full. We were given the menu while waiting, so my friend and I discussed what to order, making the wait seem short. The portion was so big that one dish was satisfying enough, and it was very delicious. The staff were also very kind.

I arrived around 6pm on a weekday and the restaurant was full, with a wait for one group ahead of us. We waited for about 10 minutes before being seated. We ordered Hiroshima negi and tako ponzu, seafood okonomiyaki (with soba noodles), and cheese mochi okonomiyaki (with udon noodles). The octopus was large and chewy with lots of green onions. The Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki was delicious. The udon noodles in the cheese mochi okonomiyaki were surprisingly tasty!

Since I had come all the way to Shimokitazawa for work, I wanted to try some B-class gourmet food that Shimokitazawa is known for. I decided to visit a famous Hiroshima okonomiyaki restaurant that is still in business according to my past memories and records. When I arrived around noon, the small restaurant was already full with customers from the first seating. Despite its continued popularity, I was taken aback when I opened the menu and saw that the prices were double what I had expected from my past visits. It felt like a mismatch for a casual lunch in Shimokitazawa. I noticed that about 80% of the customers were foreigners, indicating that Shimokitazawa had transformed into a popular spot for inbound tourists. I don't think I will be returning to this restaurant in this down-to-earth neighborhood, which is not like Ginza or Marunouchi.

#Hiroki Shimokitazawa Store I thought this was what authentic Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki looked like! It's so popular that it's hard to get in without waiting in line, so it's a bit intimidating to visit! Personally, I prefer regular okonomiyaki. - I ordered squid, shrimp, scallop, and shiso udon, which was a nice twist with udon instead of soba! - The gooey yam okonomiyaki was amazing! A great appetizer! - #TokyoGourmet #TokyoDinner #TokyoTeppanyaki #TokyoHiroshimaStyleOkonomiyaki #ShimokitazawaGourmet #ShimokitazawaDinner #ShimokitazawaTeppanyaki #ShimokitazawaHiroshimaStyleOkonomiyaki

I sat at the counter. I couldn't help but be mesmerized as they cooked right in front of me. This is definitely the best okonomiyaki. The seafood okonomiyaki was really delicious, with the shrimp and squid being so fresh. They also serve plenty of vegetables, so you will definitely be satisfied. The herb butter is a must-try. I also ordered the Shiso Hiroshima Negi soba, which was also delicious.

"Hiroki Shimokitazawa Store" is a Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki restaurant located about a 5-minute walk from Shimokitazawa Station, across from Don Quijote. I tried their most popular dish, the "Squid, Shrimp, Scallop, Shiso, with Soba or Udon Okonomiyaki for 2150 yen." Personally, I found the satisfaction level to be low considering the price. #ShimokitazawaGourmet #ShimokitazawaLunch #HiroshimaOkonomiyaki #DeliciousOkonomiyaki #Okonomiyaki #WantToConnectWithFoodLovers #GourmetInstagram #GourmetMemo #WantToConnectWithFoodies #FoodPornInstagram #FoodPornGram #TabeLog #TabeLogGram #FoodPornism #GourmetTravel #DeliciousIsHappiness #LookingForFoodieFriends #GourmetClub #FoodieGirls #FoodieBoys #WantToConnectWithGourmets #KantoGourmet #FoodReviewGram #GourmetReport #GourmetWriter #FoodWriter #BGradeGourmetInformation #TokyoFoodie"

I thought the okonomiyaki I ate in Tokyo was the most delicious. You can choose between soba and udon, but the soba here is also very delicious! The seafood is separately grilled and then placed on top, so it is not tough and can be enjoyed deliciously. You cannot make a reservation, so you have to wait in line, but it's worth the wait!

Course for 2 people, priced at 5,390 yen, including drinks. We had negi ponzu seafood grill, mountain tuna grill, and okonomiyaki. You can choose what to grill for the seafood, select the ingredients for the mountain tuna, and decide if you want soba or udon noodles for the okonomiyaki. It was a good deal for two people, even though the portion was a bit small. The restaurant was featured on "The Lonely Gourmet" and had a nice atmosphere. It's a narrow space, so making a reservation is recommended. Sitting at the counter, you can watch the food being cooked, which is appetizing. Next time, I want to try different types of okonomiyaki instead of the course menu. #Shimokitazawa #ShimokitazawaGourmet #TokyoGourmet #Okonomiyaki #Teppanyaki

I visited for lunch. The restaurant was located about a 3-minute walk from Shimokitazawa Station. I ordered the special okonomiyaki with all kinds of seafood, Hiroshima negi okonomiyaki, and teppanyaki octopus with herb butter flavor. I watched as the hot okonomiyaki was cooked right in front of me on the teppan. I ordered soba noodles on the side, and it was really delicious with an authentic taste. The negi (green onions) were not bitter and easy to eat. The special okonomiyaki allowed me to enjoy thick seafood ingredients.

Hiroki's Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. The techniques inherited from the previous owner are being faithfully preserved. While I prefer a smaller size, the person next to me exclaimed at how big theirs was! Everyone has their own perspective. I personally like the mochi cheese. The base has pork cooked underneath, with Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki filled with noodles and plenty of thinly sliced cabbage. Today, the restaurant was full as soon as it opened at 12 o'clock. If you want to avoid waiting, it's best to line up early. I lined up at 11:50 and just made it in.

On weekdays, there were only 4 people waiting in line at the opening time of 12 o'clock, so we were able to enter easily. We ordered the most popular menu item, which includes squid, shrimp, scallops, and shiso for 1950 yen, as well as mochi and cheese for 1500 yen. You can choose between soba or udon noodles (or even no noodles). The most popular menu item was delicious and the mochi and cheese dish was like a unique version of monjayaki, which was also good.

I don't remember why I registered, but I visited a restaurant I wanted to go to. I had the Hiroshima-style negi (green onion) soba for 1650 yen. I parked my car at a coin parking lot for 100 yen for 30 minutes. I arrived on a Thursday at 17:13, with 5 customers already there and 2 more arriving after me. I ordered and paid with PayPay, which had a stamp card. The Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki I ordered had noodles in it, with a medium thickness. The batter was light, and the cabbage and green onions were fresh and tasty. The okonomiyaki came with sauce, so I enjoyed it as it was at first. The price was on the high side, but considering the cost of living, it was understandable. Overall, the restaurant didn't have any standout features, but it was a good place to enjoy delicious Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki in Shimokitazawa, with the live cooking adding to the experience.

It has been 3 months since my last visit. I went for lunch this time. I ordered the Meatball Soba with Shrimp, Squid, and Squid Tempura Okonomiyaki. The price was surprisingly high at 2090 yen. The Meatball Soba alone costs 1100 yen, which is already expensive. The base Okonomiyaki is pricey as well. Although the two shrimp on top are good, they are not worth 400 yen. The Okonomiyaki has a mild flavor but lacks cohesion, making it a bit difficult to eat. The 200 yen squid tempura topping is not as good as its price suggests, but it surprisingly adds flavor and enhances the overall taste. I have been visiting this restaurant since it opened, but I feel like it could use some more improvement.

There are table seats inside the restaurant, but the main focus is on the counter. There was a demand from inbound customers, so the restaurant was crowded with foreign guests when I arrived around 4 pm. Drinks were served quickly, and the dishes were cooked one after another on the teppan right in front of us. It may take some time as they cook for about 5 groups of 7-8 people each, but if you can sit at the counter, time flies by with the teppan show right before your eyes. I could even go for a second beer. By the time they drizzled mayonnaise on the dishes, I was already starving and my appetite exploded. Of course, the taste was amazing! The happiness of eating something right when it's done is unique to teppanyaki, and I felt like there was actually more food than it looked. My wife thought one okonomiyaki portion was just right. I was impressed by the staff member who was handling everything on their own during the busy time. I will definitely visit again.

Today's Poteranchi → [First Time] In my hometown of Tottori, when it comes to okonomiyaki, it's usually the Hiroshima style that people think of. I've always loved it and eaten it often, so I have a strong preference for it. The judging criteria is strict, and I hadn't been able to find my favorite Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki in Tokyo until now. But this one passes the test, and I would definitely come back. When I looked at the menu, I felt a sense of déjà vu. Later, I found out that there is a sister restaurant near my house. No wonder the menu looked familiar. I had only ever had takeout from the nearby restaurant, so I didn't notice it until after I had eaten. But I don't mind. The noodles were packed tightly, with a bit of flavor, and they were delicious. The cabbage was crisp, and the pickled ginger on top was unusual but turned out to be a good accent to the dish, just like with takoyaki. Mayonnaise was only served with spicy mustard mayo, not the regular mayo. I'm not a big fan of spicy mustard, but it surprisingly goes well with the okonomiyaki. I apologize for doubting it. Other customers ordered seafood toppings, which looked delicious, but it was a bit pricey for me today, so I resisted. One thing that caught my attention was that there were a few groups of Korean tourists. There were menus in Korean as well, so it seems that okonomiyaki is popular among Koreans too. I don't know why. This was my second visit, and I sat at the counter where I could see the whole cooking process from the side. I ended up taking a lot of photos.
