Hello. On the 4th day of the 9-day consecutive Golden Week, I visited the sushi restaurant Tennuma Ochiai in Ogikubo. I had decided to visit this place after reading reviews from people I follow. Let me introduce this sushi restaurant briefly. It opened on January 28, 2023, and it is still a new restaurant with only 5 reviews. They only offer a 12,000 yen omakase course for both lunch and dinner, with 18 dishes included, which is great for sake lovers like me. Additionally, both lunch and dinner are served in a private reservation style, and I made a reservation for one person as usual, so I was a bit worried. The head chef has worked for 11 and a half years at the famous restaurant "NOBUTOKYO," which has a global presence, and has experience working abroad, so they can provide an English menu and service. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere with a 6-seat counter, and reservations can be made through Instagram DM or Tabelog. Since it recently opened, it was easy to make a reservation. I got off at Ogikubo Station on the Chuo Line and took a leisurely walk around the area. It was my first time in Ogikubo, and I explored the Ogikubo Shotengai. There were popular spots like Butayama and Harukiya, as well as ramen shops with long lines. There were also various other shops like Yakiniku Futago, Sushiro, and Sukiya. When it was time for my reservation, I headed to the restaurant. After walking a few minutes from Ogikubo Station, I entered a quiet residential area. The neighborhood was so peaceful, and it felt nostalgic. The restaurant was tucked away in a narrow alley. When I entered, the head chef greeted me warmly. There were 3 seats prepared at the 6-seat counter, and it seemed like a few more customers, including me, would be coming. But then, the head chef informed me that I was the only reservation for today! I felt a bit embarrassed. Apparently, there were no other reservations for the day. They usually require a minimum of 4 people for a private booking. As soon as I sat down, the head chef engaged in conversation with me. He was very easy to talk to and had a gentle demeanor, which made me feel at ease. About 80% of the customers are locals from Ogikubo. A high-end sushi restaurant loved by the locals is definitely a great find! I started with a beer since I had been wanting one after visiting Ebisu yesterday. And to my delight, they had Ebisu beer available. Now, let's begin the omakase course! Pickled ginger: Thinly sliced ginger with a strong acidity and spiciness, but it was delicious. The thin slices allow the flavor to spread quickly when chewed. I really enjoyed this kind of pickled ginger. Shari (sushi rice): They use a red vinegar called Yoko...
