On this day, I had some errands in Okusawa, Setagaya-ku in the evening. I have used the Tokyu Meguro Line many times before, but this was my first time getting off at Okusawa Station. Since I had some time before my errands, I searched for a cafe on Tabelog. Being in an area adjacent to Jiyugaoka, there were quite a few cafes that popped up. Among them, I was intrigued by UTAKATA COFFEE, which has only been open for a little over a year and is not ranked very high on Tabelog, but their Instagram caught my interest. I decided to visit the cafe. I arrived at the shop around 3:30 pm, and there were no other customers inside. The young female staff behind the counter welcomed me warmly. I first placed my order and paid at the front counter. I confirmed that the sweets were not sold out yet and ordered the "Limited Quantity Chocolate Basque Cheesecake" for 610 yen (tax included). For my drink, I decided to go with a hot drip coffee and chose the Ethiopia Halo Beriti for 710 yen (tax included) from the 5 bean options. I then sat at the second seat from the back at the counter facing the kitchen and waited. The Chocolate Basque Cheesecake was more like a Gateau au Chocolat than I expected. The taste was satisfying, especially when enjoyed with the generous cocoa powder-dusted whipped cream. The Ethiopia Halo Beriti coffee had a floral aroma and a gentle berry-like acidity, which paired perfectly with the Gateau au Chocolat-like cake. While I was enjoying my coffee and cake, a bearded man in his late twenties (possibly the owner?) appeared from the back but did not pay any attention to me. He seemed to be busy with some work or talking to the female staff. When I asked the female staff about the coffee selection, she mentioned that the coffee beans occasionally change, and most of the options that day were light roasts with fruity flavors, reflecting the preferences of their coffee supplier, BREATH HIROSHIMA in Hiroshima. Overall, the cafe seemed to cater to those who enjoy light roasts and fruity coffees. I stayed for about 20 minutes, and I was the only customer until the end. As I was leaving, I complimented the coffee and cake, and the female staff seemed genuinely pleased. I don't often have the opportunity to visit Okusawa, but the cozy atmosphere and pleasant service at UTAKATA COFFEE made me want to come back again. Just before leaving the shop, it started raining, and by the time I finished my errands, the rain had intensified along with the wind. My compact umbrella broke on the way to Midorigaoka Station via Okusawa-Orochidori Street from my errands, leaving me completely drenched. However, the lingering pleasant memories of my time at UTAKATA COFFEE helped me return home with a clear and content mind. After my visit, I found out that the same owner also runs a shop called EBISU CLASS COFFEE in Ebisu when I checked the shop's website. Looking at the photos of the interior, it seems that EBISU CLASS COFFEE has a similar vibe to UTAKATA COFFEE.
