A wine bar that specializes in domestically grown grapes and pure Japanese wines produced domestically. Located about a 7-8 minute walk from Kitasando Station and Iidabashi Station, and within walking distance from Yoyogi Station and Harajuku Station. Situated in a quiet residential area slightly off the main street in the sophisticated and adult-like atmosphere of Kitasando. With a seating fee of only ¥500, there is no cover charge or service charge, and you can also enjoy drinks only. From famous wineries to niche bottles and the shop's original wines, the variety of Japanese wines here is unrivaled in Tokyo! The walk-in cellar inside the shop is one of the largest in Tokyo, with about 4,000 bottles of Japanese wine. The food menu is also extensive, and you can be fully satisfied even for dinner. Especially in the current season, the "Eggplant and Tomato Demi-Cheese Gratin" is recommended! In a time when there are still few specialty stores for Japanese wines, this place is perfect for casually enjoying a glass and learning about wines.

I visited a cozy bar where you can enjoy a quick glass of delicious wine when you have some free time. The interior had a calm and stylish atmosphere. I was a bit worried that my casual clothes might not be suitable, but it was fine. The seating was well spaced out, so I felt safe even in these times. They had a selection of Japanese wines on offer, all reasonably priced. They mentioned a special machine they use to keep the wine fresh at all times. I asked for a fruity wine and they recommended a light and fruity one, which was exactly what I wanted. They change the wine selection regularly, so you can try different wines each time. The owner was friendly and easy to talk to, making it a great place to relax even if you're alone.

On this day, I was planning to go to the membership-based French restaurant La Clé Tokyo in Gaienmae, but since I had about 2 hours to spare, I decided to visit Sirocco, a hidden gem that offers a selection of Japanese wines. Located in a quiet alley off the main street, Sirocco has a charming entrance that sets the tone for the rest of the experience. The dark interior features a L-shaped counter with 7 seats (currently reduced to 5) and 5 tables for 2. There is also a cellar along the walls and at the back, showcasing an impressive collection of Japanese wines, including TSUGANE among others. I was amazed at how they managed to acquire such a collection.
I tried a few wines during my visit:
- Tomo blanc K: Domain Atsushi Suzuki, a unique blend of Hokkaido Kerner grapes and well-ripened noble rot grapes. It was a truly remarkable glass!
- Pony blanc: COMAZONO VIN YARD, a barrel-aged Koshu from Yamanashi with a sherry-like flavor and taste. It was perfectly served at the right temperature, ideal for a warm and humid night.
- Rue de vin: a distinctive Gewürztraminer from Nagano with a unique flavor profile reminiscent of sherry.
I also enjoyed their homemade pickles, which had a balanced combination of acidity, saltiness, and a hint of sweetness. The olives were a classic choice as well. I couldn't believe that a wine bar of this caliber existed in Kitaharajuku, offering such an extensive collection of Japanese wines. I don't know of any other wine bar in Tokyo that surpasses Sirocco in terms of Japanese wine selection. If you're a fan of Japanese wines, this place is a must-visit. Please note that only card payments are accepted. La Clé Tokyo's information is available on Instagram.
