Friday night. Oomori "Aburiya Mutepou" I ran into a izakaya alone after work on a rainy Friday night. It's quite crowded, as expected for a Friday night. I thought it was just a typical old man's drinking place, but there are quite a few young female customers as well. It's a popular spot regardless of age. I started with a Hoppy white. The otoshi was bean sprouts and okra. Then, I had 3 glasses of Hoppy medium. Plum sour. Akakiri shima on the rocks. Grilled tofu. It was refreshing and comforting. I had it with ginger and green onions. Time for some skewers. The liver was incredibly tender. It melted in my mouth. The sunagimo was crunchy. The bonjiri shiitake was delicious. Bean sprouts and seasoned bamboo shoots covered in green onions. Bean sprouts won against seasoned bamboo shoots. I sprinkled shichimi pepper and ate it. Grilled mackerel pike as a closer. I ate it as is with wasabi. The grilled flavor enhanced the deliciousness of the mackerel pike. Tuna brain sashimi. It was soft and fresh. I washed it down with a highball. Finished off with tea pickled plum rice porridge. Ah, it warms me up.

Two girls had 3 drinks each and ate until full, and it cost 9500 yen. Maybe Tokyo's izakayas are expensive, but considering the food and price, in terms of cost performance, well, it's delicious of course!! But personally, I might prefer a cheaper and tastier izakaya.

Sunday, 5:00 PM. After the first place was disappointing, I decided to have another drink. I chose this place because they allow smoking. The spacious restaurant had only one other group of customers. I was told it would get busier soon, so I was seated at a table for two. Since I was already somewhat full, I focused on snacks. I ordered maguro (tuna), negi (leek) tamago (egg) don, and pickled ginger tempura, along with a set of white Hoppy. The tamago was half-cooked with only about four pieces of leek, so it felt a bit misleading to call it "negi tamago." The pickled ginger tempura was very delicious. I ended up staying for about an hour. Only one more customer arrived during that time. They should have let them sit at a four-person table. Thank you for the meal.

I was interested after seeing posts from people I follow on Instagram! I don't often have the chance to go to Omori area. On this day, after returning from boat racing, I went for a drink with friends to reflect on the day (bitter smile). It was around 4:30 pm on Sunday. There was one group of customers before us, but more customers started coming in one after another. There was one staff member who seemed to be a foreigner. I was worried if it would be okay, but from taking the first order to serving drinks and dishes, everything was done efficiently without any stress. I was impressed. (After 5 pm, more staff members came in and the service became even more stable.) It's a casual izakaya, but the menu and cost performance are great (・∀・)!! Yakitori, stewed tripe, tuna avocado, chicken sashimi, chicken nanban...etc, even finishing with yakisoba. Surrounded by men with huge appetites on this day, we enjoyed trying various dishes and it was fun! Of course, everything was delicious (^O^) I wonder how many mega-high drinks we had (laughs). Thank you for the meal~~. Close to Omori Station. I think this is a recommended restaurant, especially for those who like traditional lantern-style izakayas ◎

I wanted to eat yakitori so I visited for the first time! I started with a highball and the recommended dish, toriwasa. The toriwasa with mitsuba was a good combination. Next, I had the yakitori! It was decent, they are trying their best. Let's see how it goes from here. Thank you for the meal.

"Muteppo" is a charcoal-grilled skewers izakaya located about a 3-minute walk from JR Oimori Station East Exit. It is part of the Oimori Station East Exit Shopping District, which consists of around 100 shops. The restaurant is open year-round, except for the year-end and New Year holidays, making it very convenient for customers. The district's mascot, "Uutan," is a forest person, which is a fitting choice considering the area's name. Unfortunately, orangutans do not actually inhabit Oimori, as they are found in tropical regions of Asia.
If you visit around 8 pm on a holiday, you can see the menu posted outside the restaurant. Happy Hour specials from Monday to Thursday, between 4 pm and 7 pm, offer deals like 300 yen draft beer and 190 yen sours. The interior of the restaurant is visible from outside, making it inviting to enter. Inside, there are 22 seats, with about 30% occupied at this time, making it relatively quiet. The establishment has a simple setup with tables made from sake barrels and beer crates, as well as a counter.
The review includes descriptions and prices of various dishes and drinks, such as a unique appetizer of moroheiya and myoga, a highball cocktail, a nori cheese dish, and a chicken salad. The reviewer suggests that taking advantage of Happy Hour deals is a smart choice. Overall, the restaurant has a casual atmosphere and offers reasonably priced dishes, similar to a chain izakaya.

I entered the restaurant with my senior by chance, and it turned out to be a place where we could enjoy not only yakitori but also a variety of other dishes.

I remember the delicious grilled mackerel and reckless Spam sausage onigiri at Aburiya Otaki in Omori.

It is a relatively small izakaya in Omori! The old-fashioned atmosphere of the shopping street suits the restaurant well. I came here to drink with friends and it was happy hour, so the drinks were cheaper. We ordered beef tendon and egg stew, grilled chicken, and grilled fatty mackerel. The tendon stew was well-flavored, and the grilled mackerel with grated radish and lemon was a good match. All the dishes went well with the alcohol, just as you would expect from an izakaya! Thanks to happy hour, we only spent about 5000 yen for two people!

On August 24th (Monday), after finishing work, the drinking enthusiasts gathered in Omori. Today, they were invited by Takasan from the local market to attend a summer party and Takasan's birthday party at Gin Gin in Omori. Arriving a little early in Omori, they decided to start with a drink at "Aburiya Mutepou". Of course, they started with a draft beer! For food, they tried the specialty dishes of the restaurant: beef tendon, egg and daikon stew, and Mutepou chicken. They also had additional drinks like black Hoppy, and enjoyed refills as they started to feel pleasantly tipsy. Finally, they headed to Gin Gin!

I often go to this restaurant at night, but this time I went for lunch! The interior of the restaurant is shaped like a horizontal square or a diamond, with a counter, table seats, and counter seats against the wall. It's not very spacious, but the balance is great and it doesn't feel cramped. The counter on the kitchen side gives a cozy hearth-like atmosphere. The lunch menu includes options for only 780 yen, with grilled fish, meat dishes, rice bowls, and other classic choices. However, be careful not to underestimate the depth of the rice bowl - I was surprised by the generous portion when I ordered extra rice! 780 yen is cheap! Challenging the free refill with that rice bowl is for the brave souls...笑

Today's lunch was in Omori. I decided to have lunch at this izakaya that I had been wanting to try for a while. It is located in a cluttered area near Omori Station East Exit. The exterior and interior of the restaurant do not have a trendy modern feel, but rather an old-fashioned izakaya atmosphere. Upon entering the restaurant, I was seated at the counter. The lunch menu for the day was as follows:
- Daily special set meal 780 yen: Grilled chicken with tomato sauce.
- Meat set meal 780 yen: Thick-sliced pork ginger sauté.
- Grilled fish set meal 780 yen: Grilled mackerel with salt.
- Simmered fish set meal 780 yen: Simmered tuna jaw.
- Today's 500 yen bowl 500 yen: Grilled chicken bowl.
Rice comes in a large portion, with free refills, and you can choose one side dish from the following:
- Natto
- Cold tofu
- Raw egg
- Pickles
- Homemade furikake
On this day, I was in the mood for fish, so I ordered the Grilled fish set meal 780 yen: Grilled mackerel with salt, with a side of raw egg. The chef-like man was in charge of cooking, while a young man assisted. The grilled dishes were cooked using a salamander. The background music was enka songs, rather than the recent trend of jazz or classical music, giving the izakaya a Showa-era vibe. The menu was also in the form of paper strips, adding a unique touch to the place.
After about 6 minutes, the set meal was ready:
- Rice: Served in a small bowl, it was about 250g in volume, providing enough without the need for a refill. It was slightly dry but cooked to my liking with a firm texture.
- Miso soup: Miso soup with seaweed and green onions, simply delicious.
- Raw egg: I turned about 1/3 of the rice into egg rice and enjoyed it.
- Grilled mackerel with salt: A half portion of medium-sized mackerel grilled with salt, served with grated radish, lemon, shredded cabbage, and mayonnaise. It was unusual to see the head still attached, but it was crisply grilled and tasted delicious. The flavor was rich and satisfying, with a generous portion.
Although 780 yen may be considered relatively high for a lunch set, I appreciated the fact that they cooked the dishes fresh using the salamander. The handmade touch and unique menu items made me think that this izakaya would be enjoyable even in the evenings. Thank you for the meal! (As of December 29, 2013, rating: 3.25 points)

A convenient izakaya located at the east exit of JR Oimori Station. The small restaurant has a counter that can seat 5-6 people and 5-6 tables for 4 people each. When I visited on a holiday around 6 pm, there were only 2 people at the counter and one group at a table, so it wasn't too crowded. I sat at the counter alone and ordered a draft beer. I decided to start with "tsukune" and grilled salted Pacific saury, which is in season. The draft beer arrived quickly, but the Pacific saury took some time to grill on the visible grill behind the counter. In the meantime, I enjoyed a lemon sour. After waiting about 7-8 minutes, the tsukune was served. The tsukune was delicious! It was tender with a good texture, perfectly grilled, and served with a sweet and savory sauce and a rich egg yolk. It was a great accompaniment for drinks and could also be enjoyed as a rice dish. I switched to lemon sour and continued to enjoy the food and drinks. Next, I tried the seasonal Pacific saury, which was also very tasty with plenty of fat. It was garnished with salt on the tail, adding a touch of elegance to this casual izakaya. Although I had a fair amount of alcohol that day, there were many other popular dishes and recommended snacks available. The izakaya is close to Oimori Station and has a cozy atmosphere. I would definitely like to visit again as it is a casual and delicious izakaya.

I heard about a one-coin lunch deal and decided to visit. There are four lunch options available, with one of them being a one-coin menu (with free extra rice). The dish I ordered was the Negi Shio Buta Shabu Don (500 yen), and it arrived in less than 5 minutes after ordering. The bowl was filled with rice topped with pork shabu shabu and a mountain of green onions. It looked very filling. I realized that it's best to mix the rice, pork, green onions, and salt sauce well together and eat it in a way that everything is combined. If you eat it layer by layer, the taste might vary from light to strong towards the end. The salt sauce tends to collect at the bottom of the bowl. The lunch menu at Muteppou changes daily with various one-coin bowl options. I look forward to trying a different bowl next time.

I have used this place a few times for a quick drink with my wife in Omori. It's a nice place, but the store is small and cozy. If it were tucked away a bit further, it would be like a hidden gem, but it's always busy and quickly fills up (laughs). The food is not "incredibly delicious," but everything is "just delicious" (I mean that as a compliment).
