You can enjoy delicious New Tan Tan noodles at this chain store, where there are no issues with the cooking. I used to notice differences in the taste of the eggs at different locations, but this store confidently stands out. The side menu is also becoming more diverse, so I am likely to visit more often.

I finished work in Kamata and visited for the first time in about a year. It was Tuesday night, so the customers were sparse, about 20%. I ordered the extra spicy meat miso and half fried rice. The fried rice came first, and then the noodles appeared 2-3 minutes later? It felt like it wasn't as spicy as before. I will visit again.

It was delicious. I ordered the "super spicy" level of spiciness on top of the extremely spicy option. I asked for the noodles to be firm. It wasn't as spicy as I expected. I enjoyed eating it little by little while drinking beer. The half mapo rice was also tasty. It would be great if the opening hours were extended. I think they would do well if they were open late at night. Thank you for the meal.

Tantan noodles for 860 yen. No wait at 13:30 on Sundays with plenty of available seats. The store is on the second floor, so be careful not to miss it without paying attention to the standing sign. The noodles have a familiar chewy texture and the soup has a good balance of saltiness and umami. The interior of the store is clean and the staff are friendly.

I recently had a strong craving and went to Kamata, which is the closest place. It's conveniently close to the station, and to be honest, I was expecting it to be a bit run-down but it was actually really clean and nice. There were a lot of young people there. I ordered a beer, gyoza, and doteyaki to start. The doteyaki was delicious and chewy, but it was too much for one person. I also ordered the Zasai ramen with medium spiciness. The strong garlic flavor was amazing! Maybe medium spiciness would have been better for me?

It was a regular day at 12:00. There was only one customer before me. Maybe because the restaurant is on the second floor, it's not very noticeable. They offer various toppings and menu options for lunch. I chose the Tan Tan Men with flavored egg. As soon as the Tan Tan Men arrived, there was a strong smell of garlic! I had a feeling from the moment I entered the restaurant, but I didn't expect it to be that intense. The flavored egg looked a bit unappealing, like it was a failed attempt. The noodles were thick and cooked quite firm. I was worried about the spiciness, but when I tried it, it wasn't actually that spicy (and I'm not a fan of spicy food). I thought, "Was it supposed to taste like this?" I used to eat the cup ramen version of this dish, but I actually prefer the cup ramen over this one.

On November 3, 2022, it was Culture Day, a national holiday. I went to Kamata to dye my hair (cover up gray hair). I arrived at the barber shop a little after 12 pm, but it was super crowded, and I didn't finish until close to 2:30 pm. Feeling hungry, I decided to have lunch. I first tried "Kanjiya" near the west exit on Kogakuin Street, but there was a line of about 20 people despite the late hour, so I went to the shop next door. It was the "Original New Tantanmen Honpo Kamata Nishiguchi Store." This is also a new store. There has been a Tantanmen shop in Kamata's east exit for a while, but it's rare to have two shops in one station! It seems that there is high demand for Tantanmen in Kamata. I made it just in time for lunch, and I ordered the following: - Miso Gyoza Set 980 yen - Negi (green onion) topping 120 yen - Half rice 150 yen I chose medium spiciness for the Tantanmen. The lunchtime menu is really a great deal! Normally, Tantanmen costs 860 yen, and miso gyoza costs 460 yen, but with the set, it's only 980 yen, which is a discount of 340 yen! The Negi topping was also cheaper compared to other stores. Having Tantanmen for lunch is really nice. It gives you a boost of energy with all that garlic flavor. It was delicious. Tantanmen is definitely a must-have food for me. Thank you for the meal!

Since I made my debut at the New Tantanmen Honpo in Tokyo Rocks on Instagram, every 2-3 months I suddenly crave Tantanmen and miso gyoza. When these forbidden symptoms arose, I ended up taking the train to Kamata. There are two branches in Kamata, but I have no idea if they are related. Both branches are close to the station, but this one is just a short 2-minute walk away. The restaurant is on the second floor, and since I was really hungry, I ordered the following: Tantanmen (extra spicy), miso gyoza, half fried rice, and half chicken wings. The fried rice wasn't that great, and the chicken wings were a step down compared to specialty shops, so I think the best side dish here is either miso gyoza or regular gyoza. Well, maybe just the miso gyoza. Apparently, there are differences in Tantanmen between branches, and I might have preferred the other Kamata branch. Next time my forbidden cravings strike, I want to try the soul food of Kawasaki residents at a famous shop in Kawasaki. Thank you for the meal.

I've seen this place on a TV show like Kenmin Show and even in cup noodles. I love spicy food, so I decided to try it out since it was very close to the hotel I was staying at that day. It was not crowded around 6 pm on a Sunday. I chose the third level of spiciness. The bowl and spoon were surprisingly big. The level of spiciness was just right for me. The taste was okay, nothing special. I love garlic, so I had no problem eating it, but it was surprisingly normal, nothing too unique. The noodles were a bit thick for my liking, but they were chewy and I liked that. There was a lot of egg, so I felt like having rice. Or maybe the noodles were not enough! I'm glad I got to try the New Tantanmen that I was curious about.

After drinking at Korakuen, I had the spicy tantanmen as a finishing touch! The tantanmen with extra spicy, double minced meat, double eggs, and double lemon sour was amazing. The chicken wings were crispy and spicy! The tantanmen is definitely best when it's extra spicy! The soup almost became solid with the extra minced meat and eggs. This was my first time trying the chicken wings. They weren't as spicy as they looked. They weren't hot, so maybe they were frozen? But they were quite delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Ordered menu: Spicy Kikurage Tan Tan Men
The base flavor was stable as always. This time, I tried adding kikurage as a topping. The kikurage was large in size and had a satisfying texture. It added a unique crunchy element to the Tan Tan Men that I hadn't experienced before. Personally, it became my favorite topping. However, I must admit, the appearance is quite gross, haha. I will challenge myself with a new topping next time.

Newtantanmen Honpo is located about 4-5 minutes from the west exit of Kamata Station. On this day, I ordered a hearty and luxurious full course meal of Newtantanmen after a long time. However, what came out was completely different from Newtantanmen. As you can see in the photo, the minced meat, egg, and garlic were completely separated. The minced meat was double but looked weak, and the garlic was raw and seemed to be a commercial product. So, I mentioned that it was completely different, but in the first place, it was not even similar. Newtantanmen is a dish where minced meat, chopped garlic, and chili pepper are mixed and heated in a Chinese wok, then egg is added. There may be some variations in the way it is made by different restaurants, but what I ate this time was not even on that level.
◆ Tantanmen (860 yen)
◆ All Double (440 yen)
◆ Zaasai (120 yen)
◆ Seasoned Egg (100 yen)
◆ Rice (200 yen)

I tried the miso dumplings that I don't usually order. I ordered the miso dumplings set (extra spicy) and the tantanmen (extra spicy) which I always eat and enjoy. The tantanmen is consistently good, but the miso dumplings were not to my liking. They weren't necessarily bad, but they felt cheap and more like a side dish. The dumplings were coated with a sweet and savory miso sauce that didn't complement the tantanmen, and I didn't feel satisfied after eating them. I don't think I'll be ordering dumplings from this restaurant again. I realized that this restaurant is really known for its tantanmen. I will focus on exploring different toppings for the tantanmen from the side menu in the future.

Today's lunch was at Newtantan near the west exit of Kamata Station. There was only one other customer, making it much quieter than the east exit. I ordered the limited edition super spicy tantanmen, which uses a different type of chili pepper for an extra kick. The soup was thick and pasty, packed with concentrated spicy flavors. Despite its intensity, the spiciness wasn't overwhelming.

Today's third stop was Newtantan Men Honpo, a soul food restaurant in Kawasaki. I love the Musashi Shinjo branch and have visited it multiple times from Tokyo. Today, I ordered medium spicy tantanmen with double portions of garlic, egg, leeks, and minced meat. It was around 10:30 pm and the place was quite busy. It took about 10 minutes for the bowl to arrive. As I started slurping, I realized they forgot the double portion of minced meat. Despite that, the noodles were delicious, but I thought they were a bit too soft. I asked my junior colleague who came with me, and they agreed. It was a bit disappointing, especially after going all the way to Gotanda to try it. Newtantan Men has an addictive flavor, with rich, garlicky, and spicy taste. The soup is also great with rice and the portion is generous, recommended for men.

After enjoying yakiniku at Nikuryoku-ya, I headed back to the west exit of the station for some ramen to finish off the meal. When in Kamata, you've got to go for tantan ramen, right? So I went to Tantan in the west exit area. For some reason, the west exit branch is always less crowded than the east exit branch. This time, I decided to try the medium spiciness level. I ordered the Tantanmen with half fried rice set, topped with leeks and pickled vegetables. It was my first time ordering Tantanmen that wasn't red. You can really taste the flavor of the soup with this one. The slightly salty soup with a hint of garlic, and the fluffy egg were delicious. And as for the spiciness level, it was almost non-existent. The crunchy leeks and the large pickled vegetables added a nice texture. The medium spiciness level was just right. The half fried rice had a good flavor, not too dry or too moist, cooked just right. Next time, I might go for the regular fried rice. The west exit branch is a hidden gem, always less crowded. Itadakimasu!

When I sat down, I saw the menu for "Tomato Tantanmen" placed in front of me. Although tomatoes were originally a topping, they were highlighted on the menu. I decided to give it a try. The tomatoes were not whole, but chopped up. Visually, it looked similar to the regular Tantanmen because they were both red. However, the taste was quite different as the tomatoes added a sourness that increased the refreshing feeling. Since the tomatoes were added on top, there wasn't much integration with the rest of the dish. Nevertheless, the tomatoes stood out. This variation may not be to everyone's taste, especially if you prefer Tantanmen on the milder side. Overall, it was a unique experience. Thank you for the meal.

Located just 4-5 minutes from the west exit of Kamata Station is New Tantanmen Honpo. As someone who is on a pilgrimage to visit various New Tantanmen shops, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit. They recommend the Tantanmen (830 yen) with an additional side of tomato (150 yen) and extra noodles (100 yen). This establishment seems to be a directly operated store commonly found in busy areas, rather than a franchise store operated by old-fashioned yakiniku or Chinese restaurants. As such, I didn't have a strong preference for the regular Tantanmen, and decided to try the tomato Tantanmen they promote. The red chili peppers in the Tantanmen and the red tomatoes blend in seamlessly, so there is no visual discord. In terms of flavor, the tomatoes mellow out the spiciness and garlic overall, making it a mild option. However, the appeal of New Tantanmen lies in the combination of chili peppers and garlic, so I don't think this variation can replace the classic toppings.
