Enjoying the Whole of Nogata Series #5: Are you Team Current Girlfriend, Ex-Girlfriend, or the Forbidden Next-Door Wife? Personally, I lean towards the ex-girlfriend. That full-bodied flavor is just irresistible. But the forbidden pleasure of the next-door wife is also hard to resist. Regardless, I just want to indulge in fleeting pleasures for now, regardless of my current girlfriend. Oh, by the way, I'm talking about alcohol, of course. Now, Nogata's bar hopping is slowly transitioning into the night. While waiting for a table at Nogata Gyoza, we stopped by "Nogata Makimaki." This place is known for skewered vegetables wrapped in pork belly. Here, we encountered Imakano and Motokano, two sweet potato shochus from Kagoshima's Satsuma Muso Co., as well as Tonari no Okusan, a barley shochu from Miyazaki's Kagura Sake Brewery. Each priced at 500 yen. I ordered Motokano and Tonari no Okusan on the rocks. Motokano had a rich and sweet potato flavor, while Tonari no Okusan had a mellow taste with a hint of barley. We also tried Imakano with water, but it lacked the depth compared to Motokano and Tonari no Okusan. Next, let me introduce the foods that liven up this forbidden rendezvous. Pork belly skewers assortment for 800 yen, which includes green onion, asparagus, garlic sprouts, tomato, and shiitake. It was delicious, especially when paired with the spicy miso. Cheese tsukune, with cartilage and plenty of cheese, was a high-quality dish. Okra and myoga for 250 yen, a refreshing side dish. Chicken breast tataki for 300 yen, with a rare sear and four condiments (garlic, ginger, wasabi, and umeboshi). As we were enjoying our time, we received a call from our main destination, signaling the end of our playful time with these ladies. But with all the shochu on this bar hopping journey, the effects will hit later. Remember, play with fire in moderation.
