This time, I decided to have lunch in Hakata, and a friend who knows Hakata recommended "Yoshizuka Unagi" enthusiastically. I love eel, and I know the good points of both Kanto and Kansai eel dishes. I have eaten at some pretty good restaurants before, so I was curious to see how good it would be this time. I made a reservation in advance, but it was already full, so they told me to come directly. Exciting. When I arrived on Friday at lunchtime, I was a little surprised. It was a weekday, but there was an 80-minute wait (laughs). I was prepared for that, so I waited patiently. I was seated roughly on schedule and checked the menu. Since I don't come here often, I decided to just eat what I wanted. I ordered the special Una-ju (eel over rice) for 4990 yen and the liver skewers for 760 yen. I like liver skewers, so I ordered two, a bit extravagant! When it was served, it looked elegant and beautiful. When I opened the box, the eel and rice were served separately, allowing you to eat them as you like. I tried the eel as it is first. With the first bite, I felt like I had reached the peak of all the eel dishes I had ever eaten (laughs). There is a hybrid of the fluffy eel flavor from Kanto and the crispy eel flavor from Kansai, which is quite interesting. Next, I tried dipping it in the sauce and eating it with the rice. It was also delicious. The sauce is sweet but not too sweet, and it's not sticky, which enhances the flavor of the eel. There was a lot of sansho pepper and shichimi (Japanese seven-spice blend) on the table, so I piled up the sansho pepper with the sauce on the rice. Piling up the sansho pepper is something I love to do, but it's not easy to do unless you have a spoon like here. It was also delicious! It was incredibly tasty, not losing to the generous amount of sansho pepper. I then ate the rice with the sauce and sansho pepper without thinking. Finished in no time. The liver skewers were next. Beautiful liver skewers. I tried one as it is, and it was delicious. With the sauce, it was even better. The sauce with the sansho pepper was super tasty! I could easily eat about 10 liver skewers alone. However, I had to leave some room because I had motsunabe (offal hot pot) waiting for me that night. Finally, I drank some roasted green tea and finished it this time. The eel was truly wonderful, just as rumored. Just one thing, I prefer the rice with the eel a bit firmer. Nevertheless, it's worth stopping by to eat this eel. Looking forward to the next time I can come back. Even so, spending 6510 yen for lunch, am I a big shot (laughs)?
